Ethan Nwaneri has committed his future to Arsenal.

The 16-year-old is signing scholarship forms with Arsenal and has agreed to a professional deal for when he turns 17 in March 2024.

His schoolboy registration was due to expire on June 30.

At 15 Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history when he came on as a substitute against Brentford in September.

He has been an Arsenal supporter since he was a boy having grown up in Islington, just a short distance away from the Emirates Stadium.

Despite his rapid progress through the youth ranks drawing strong admiration from other clubs, he never had any intention of leaving and turned down more lucrative offers to stay.

Nwaneri is regarded among the country’s most promising talents having made his under-18s debut for Arsenal at 14.

His talent has become widely recognised thanks to being exposed to a bigger stage this season by playing under-18s, under-21s and first-team football.

He has also been known to England’s national youth setup since playing for Arsenal’s Under-14s aged 12 and is now a regular for England Under-17s, including at the recent European Under-17 Championship in Hungary.

The move is another sign of Arsenal’s upward trajectory and their ability to retain young talent following quickly on from the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli and Aaron Ramsdale in agreeing new, long-term deals with the club.

This week the club have also signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea and agreed a fee with West Ham for England international Declan Rice.

His technical ability has been displayed with his close control when dribbling as well as his clean finishing.

His quick bursts of acceleration, eye for a pass and ability to ride a challenge also allowed him to stand out in youth football and have raised interesting discussions from a development standpoint.

Arsenal have been attempting to make their young players positionally flexible in recent years and that is no different with Nwaneri.

This season alone he has played as a No 10, a left-sided No 8, a centre-forward and off the left wing because he has attributes to thrive in each of those roles.

Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Ajax to sign defender Jurrien Timber.

The Premier League side will pay €40million (£34.3m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in largely realistic bonuses for Timber.

The 22-year-old has been granted permission to undergo medical and finalise personal terms with Arsenal.

Arsenal put in a £30m offer for Timber last month, with Ajax seeking a higher fee for a highly-rated player who has two years left to run on his contract with the Dutch club.

Timber made 34 Eredivisie appearances in what was an underwhelming 2022-23 campaign for Ajax, scoring twice and registering two assists.

The centre-back, who can also play on the right-hand side of defence, has also played 15 times for the Netherlands.

Arsenal are also closing in on the signing of Declan Rice, having agreed a fee for the England international with West Ham United. Rice has now been given permission to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms ahead of the £105m move.

Why do Arsenal want Timber?

One of Timber’s best qualities is his composure on the ball.

At the World Cup, he played on the right-hand side of a back three with Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake. Timber used his impressive passing range and dribbling ability to help the team progress up the pitch. He is also is capable of operating at right-back.

There are not many defenders in the world who possess such an intricate passing range and are so confident carrying the ball.

According to data from FBref, Timber averaged 90.5 touches per game last season in the Dutch top flight — more than any other player. Even more impressively, 59 per cent of his touches were in the middle third which is very high for a centre-back and underlines how much he gets involved in attacks.

Ajax suffered a dramatic drop-off in form this season. They finished 13 points behind champions Feyenoord, who had Quinten (Jurrien’s twin brother) at the heart of their midfield.

The twins still live together, but after another year of progression, Jurrien’s time for a new challenge has surely arrived.

Versteh ich weder aus Vereinssicht noch aus Spielersicht so richtig. Realistisch betrachtet hat es da - und er ist immerhin schon 23 - relativ wenig gegeben, wo man davon ausgehen könnte dass er irgendwann wirkliche Einsatzzeiten bei Arsenal bekommen wird. Wenn er seinen Jugendverein so gern hat, sich mit dieser Rolle zufrieden gibt und überschaubar teuer ist (im Verhältnis zu anderen), in Ordnung, ich hätte vermutlich versucht wo anders unterzukommen wo ich auch wirklich spiele. 

Vereinshomepages liebe ich ja  Wird in den letzten 3 Jahren in der Premier League unter Arteta keine 300 Minuten eingesetzt und dann schreibt man sowas

naja er hat halt grad das letzte jahr (oder eineinhalb?) schon einen sichtbaren sprung in der Entwicklung gehabt, meine ich. 

btw sein Tor gegen Cherries ja zum arsenal Tor der Saison gewählt worden. zählt natürlich nix für diese extension, aber ist symbolisch dafür was er für diesen Verein ist und bringen kann: ein joker für die crunch time. 

und er ist ja jetzt eigentlich die Nummer 2 hinter Saka auf dem rechten Flügel, also wir sind nur eine Verletzung vom (ich glaub) am meisten gefoulten Spieler der Liga davon entfernt dass er ganz ganz viele Minuten kriegt.

Testspiel jetzt natürlich ohne große Erkentnisse.

Kiwior kann die LV Position spielen. Hat dies auch ähnlich wie Zinchenko gemacht und im Spielaufbau oft den 6er gespielt.

Jesus, Nketiah und Balogun kurz sogar gemeinsam am Platz. Balogun rechts auf der Saka Position. Eine 100% dann liegen gelassen. Havertz in den ersten 45 Minuten auch eher unauffällig. Von den Jungen hat Nwaneri einen guten Eindruck hinterlassen.
