Everton will try to obtain a work permit for Argentine international midfielder Ever Banega at a Home Office hearing on Friday.

The Toffees want to sign him on a season-long loan deal from Valencia, with a view to a permanent transfer.

However, the 21-year-old has not played the required 75 per cent of Argentina games in the last two years.

Valencia signed him from Boca Juniors in January for £15.4m but he spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Everton still insist they have had no further contact with Manchester City over Joleon Lescott, although Eastlands sources are now suggesting Richard Dunne may make a return to Goodison Park in part-exchange.

Moyes is also determined to bring in another centre-back, with Middlesbrough's Robert Huth overtaking Philippe Senderos of Arsenal as the main target.

Joleon Lescott set to leave Everton and move to Manchester City for £24m

Everton have finally given in to Manchester City's long-running pursuit of Joleon Lescott but will report the Eastlands club to the Premier League over their conduct in the months it has taken to agree a £24 million deal.

City inquired about signing Lescott in the January transfer window and followed up that interest with two bids, worth £15 million and £18 million, during the close-season that were rejected by the Everton manager, David Moyes, who rebuffed a transfer request from the player 13 days ago. Moyes was infuriated by City's behaviour and branded their attempts to sign Lescott as "disgusting", while the club's captain Phil Neville was also critical of their conduct.
