Bretwalda Большевик Geschrieben 3. "Mein" Team momentan Tor: Paul Robinson, David James, Robert Green Abwehr: Gary Neville, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Wayne Bridge, Luke Young, Sol Campbell Mittelfeld: David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Ledley King, Michael Carrick, SWP, Stewart Downing Sturm: Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent, Andy Johnson 0 Diesen Beitrag teilen Link zum Beitrag Auf anderen Seiten teilen

ianrush Pass And Move - It's The Liverpool Groove Geschrieben 4. März 2006 Meine Meinung zum WM Kader : Is one Crouch enough for England?Barney Ronay Saturday March 4, 2006 The Guardian Kevin Keegan once claimed that a team of 11 Berti Vogtses would be unbeatable. While it was never quite clear if Keegan really imagined this ever happening - or even if what he actually said was "would have a combined total of 22 ear-length sideburns" - he raises an interesting point. What would a team of 11 Peter Crouches be like? Very polite of course. And quite funny-looking too. Particularly in the last moments of a World Cup quarter-final, when the big lads from the back stream forward to join the big lads up front, hoping to get on the end of a cross from the big lads out wide - leaving just a couple of big lads covering the big lad in goal. How about a 23-man Crouch World Cup squad? Or a Crouch-saturated Premiership, generations of Crouches marching, like those scary hammers in the video for Pink Floyd's The Wall, through their own futurist utopia of gangling target-men renowned for their unselfish work off the ball. This might all be a long way off, but resistance to fielding a player who looks less like an athlete than a very helpful teenage work experience boy at B&Q has already melted into grudging respect. These days Crouch is said to offer England "something different". What with David Beckham entering that phase common to all extremely famous people where they begin to resemble a waxwork (check out the nylon weave hair and Action Man skin) he certainly looks very different. He plays differently too, in a style best described as "English". Direct, long ball, hump-it-and-hope English football . Say it out loud. Doesn't that sound good? For too long Crouchie and his "something different" has been English football's dirty secret. In recent years a proud tradition of stick-it-in-the-mixer-for-the-big-man-foraging-for-scraps football has been sublimated into a furtive long-ball fetish that emerges only in moments of great and cathartic desperation. Why should we feel guilty? Brian Clough may have said: "If God had meant us to play football in the air He'd have put grass in the sky." But then why did He create the near-post flick-on? Or spend His time inventing the overloaded far-post set-piece off-the-knee last-minute equaliser? A whole team of Crouches, or even a midfield of Crouches, could perfect a style of football similar to the kind of game you play with a dog on a beach. Crouch number one, hands in pockets, heads on to Crouch number two. Crouch number two does a couple of keep-ups, lights a fag and then nods on to Crouch number three. Who scores. 4-0 to England! Sven-Goran Eriksson, to his credit, does seem to be heading this way. Taking England to the World Cup with reserve strikers called Crouch and Bent may sound a bit like a Two Ronnies sketch ("I'm Crouch, he's Bent and that's Grip over there") but it's definitely a step in the right direction. No Crouch at all is one thing. A single Crouch, however, is clearly not enough. And a word of warning: once you start demanding that your Crouches have surprisingly good feet, a delicate touch for such a big man, or a penchant for intelligent link-up play, you're halfway towards trying to out-stepover a Brazilian. There is no room for half-measures. It's go high or go home. 0 Diesen Beitrag teilen Link zum Beitrag Auf anderen Seiten teilen
themanwho Silver Torah Geschrieben 5. März 2006 Eriksson drops hint over CarrickEngland boss Sven-Goran Eriksson said Michael Carrick may start in midfield but it would depend on the opposition. "Maybe in some games I would pick Carrick ahead of Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard in order to have a real sitting midfielder," revealed Eriksson. "In some games we will meet a team with two strikers and a player like Zinedine Zidane behind them and you have to think about what to do." Carrick, 24, started against Uruguay on Wednesday in the absence of Lampard. Tottenham midfielder Carrick was used in a holding role against the Uruguayans, allowing Gerrard more opportunity to push forward. Ledley King has also been used in the holding midfield position, while Newcastle's Scott Parker is another player who specialises in that role. But Eriksson believes that eventually Lampard, 27, or Gerrard, 25, will fulfil the holding midfield role for England. He added: "Gerrard and Lampard are two extremely intelligent football players who, in the future when they lose a little bit of energy, could play extremely well as sitting midfielders. I'm sure about that." Meanwhile, Eriksson is not concerned that his skipper David Beckham's club concerns will effect his World Cup preparations. The resignation of Florentino Perez as president of Real Madrid has raised doubts about Beckham's future in Spain. "David Beckham can handle all sorts of problems and pressure," said Eriksson. "I don't think he will be worried about that playing in the World Cup." Beckham, 30, has one more season left on his current contract at Real. And Eriksson added that he felt it would be better for the player if his situation was resolved before the World Cup finals in Germany this summer. "In general, it's better that these things are solved before a World Cup, whether a player moves between clubs or stays at the same club," said the England boss.
themanwho Silver Torah Geschrieben 10. März 2006 Passt hier am ehesten rein: Bolton's Nolan wins player awardBolton midfielder Kevin Nolan has won the Barclays player of the month award for February. Nolan, 23, has scored 10 goals this season in establishing himself as one of the leading players in his position. His form has also led to his boss Sam Allardyce predicting a possible call-up to England's World Cup squad for Nolan. Allardyce said: "I would imagine there are still one or two places up for grabs and I see no reason why Kevin should not be pushing for one of them."

Bretwalda Большевик Geschrieben 27. April 2006 FA offers England job to ScolariLuiz Felipe Scolari Brazilian Scolari is a World Cup winner Luiz Felipe Scolari has been offered the job of England manager and is discussing terms with the Football Assocation, the BBC has learned. FA chief executive Brian Barwick is in Lisbon to thrash out a deal with Portugal's Brazilian coach. Scolari, 57, who guided Brazil to victory in the 2002 World Cup, is out of contract after the 2006 finals. If he accepts the post, he will take over from Sven-Goran Eriksson following this summer's tournament in Germany. Scolari is thought to have a gentleman's agreement with the Portuguese FA not to commit himself to another job until his current deal runs out in July. But it is understood part of the FA's talks in Lisbon are about waiving this arrangement. The FA board is due to meet again next Thursday and had hoped to be in a position to finalise its selection by then. Scolari's case has been championed at the highest level within the FA by Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein. News that he has been offered the England job will come as a blow to those fans who favour a British appointment. The FA has also held talks with Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren, Bolton's Sam Allardyce, Alan Curbishley of Charlton and former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill. Last week, the FA claimed it had completed its interview process, and McClaren - part of Eriksson's current England coaching team - was seen as the favourite. But Barwick's trip to Portugal seems to support claims that the FA board was unable to reach a firm decision. Agreeing personal terms with Scolari should not be an issue as the estimated £3m annual salary on offer would represent a big pay rise for him. But the FA's approach raises the prospect of Scolari facing England in Germany this summer as manager-elect, possibly in the quarter-finals. He has helped to knock England out of their past two major tournaments - with Brazil in the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals, and with Portugal at the same stage in Euro 2004. Scolari is a double winner of the Libertadores - the South American championship - and took hosts Portugal to the final of Euro 2004, where they lost to Greece.
