4. 1:1 in Folge. Traurig..

Spurs are set to bring in one gem of a player!

Football FanCast columnist Alex Dimond is upset at the likelihood on John Bostock leaving his football club and feels that Palace's loss, will be very much Tottenham's gain.

Today's announcement that Tottenham Hotspur have completed the £5million capture of John Bostock has grabbed far fewer headlines than Spurs other big summer signing so far, Luka Modric. Compared to the Croatian dynamo, little is known about the boy from South London. Yet, in a few years time, it is highly probable that the young English midfielder will be regarded as the better purchase, garnering the headlines ahead of his Croatian international teammate. Spurs fans have got themselves a gem of player, whether they know it yet or not.

First of all, it must be noted that Crystal Palace have yet to admit Bostock has left the club, maintaining hope that he will stay with the club he supports. Having been on the club's books since he was 7 years old, the club are understandably unwilling to admit they have lost one of the most talented youngsters they have ever unearthed. Unfortunately, it looks inevitable that John will move on, the lure of Tottenham being simply too much to resist. As John himself has said, "I am definitely ready to make this move and Spurs is the team that I wanted to join. I feel this is a club with a great future and this is where I want to develop my potential and improve as a player."Whether or not the two clubs can agree a fee, or it goes to a tribunal, the deal looks to be just a matter of time.

Ever since his emergence as the key component of England's youth teams, Bostock has been highly sought after by a litany of top clubs. Barcelona were known to have a keen interest, along with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. All these clubs are believed to have made many firm enquiries about the player - Tottenham have pulled off a major coup to beat the competition and gain his signature.

There appear to be two primary reasons behind their victory in the race. The first is location, much like Modric did not want to move to the North-East (even if Newcastle offered him more money), Bostock does not want to leave London at this early stage in his career. His father, well known around Selhurst Park, seems to have his son's best interests at heart and wants him to remain at the family home for as long as possible. The desire to stay in London obviously limits his choice of clubs - specifically two, Spurs and Chelsea. It appears the Bostocks do not feel the Chelsea youth system will benefit John, fearing perhaps he will be forgotten about and frequently farmed out on loan. The example of Scott Sinclair (who he would have seen first hand during the Chelsea player's loan spell at Selhurst Park this season) might be preying heavily on their minds.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have a proven record of nurturing young (British) talent - with the recentemergence in the first team of Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon and the recent acquisitions of Gareth Bale and Chris Gunter. It seems that footballing considerations are all that motivated the Bostock's, something that can only be good for him and the club he joins. Money, so often the primary motivator, does not appear to be in this instance. For John, the move to North London appears a shrewd one, even if the example of Wayne Routledge (another Palace product) should give him some food for thought.

The move looks equally shrewd from Tottenham's standpoint. For £5m Tottenham have got a player who looks destined to be worth four times that, a player who can orchestrate their midfield for years to come. In his few brief appearances for Palace, he was mightily impressive. On his debut, aged just 15, he came on and proceeded to run the show. His passing was pinpoint; he showed great awareness and was far from overawed by the occasion. He seems to have a footballing maturity that belies his years. Despite his slight build (he will no doubt fill out in time) he also gave as good as he got in physical battles against players twice his age and size. Already 6ft 1, he looks capable of matching Cesc Fabregas' passing ability, but with an aerial ability that will make him more of an all-round threat. How long have Spurs been crying out for a player like that?!

It is impossible to make more than educated guesses about what Bostock might go on to achieve, especially considering his lack of playing time in the Red and Blue. What is certain, however, is that the Crystal Palace team current contains many youngsters destined for the Premiership (Moses, Scannell, Hills) yet Bostock is widely accepted as the most talented of the bunch, the crème de la crème. His rare forays on the field have only served to enhance this belief, and suggestions he could be the eventual successor to Gerrard in England's midfield should not be dismissed lightly. The boy is that good.

The fact that Palace are unwilling to accept £5m for a 16-year old who has made 4 first team appearances is perhaps the best evidence of his undoubted ability and potential. Publically, the club is making a determined stance, but privately they must already be ruing one that got away. Surely it won't be long, whether it is two years or five, before Tottenham fans are celebrating one of the best bits of business in their recent history. Damn them.

Offiziell: Giovani wechselt zu Tottenham

http://www.fcbarcelona.cat/web/english/not...0606104518.html

6 Mio.
