Ich nicht, in ein paar Wochen werden wir es erfahren. Eigentlich schwierig sowas vorauszusagen, kann viel passieren in so einem Turnier. Hängt ja schon sehr viel allein von der Auslosung ab.

sorry wenn man behauptet Ungarn war in allen Belangen um Welten besser, kann ich nur einen Smiley bringen.

Bitte, dann nenn doch irgendwas, in dem wir besser waren! Zweikämpfe, Defensive, Spielverständnis, Passes, Pressing, sogar Kreativität geht dank des Totalausfall auf unserer Seite an die Ungarn. Da bleibt nicht mehr viel, vielleicht Almer, wenn die Bälle haltbar gewesen wären. Völlig verdienter Sieg ohne wenn und aber, alles andere ist realitätsfern.

To be honest, you could see it coming. While some people had decent seasons (Arnautovic, Fuchs, Baumgartlinger), the rest of the team had underperformed after the qualification.

The entire right side was ineffective on both club and country level for the entire year, Hinteregger had a completely crap season, Junuzovic was never as good for Bremen as he

was last year, Almer (despite being arguably the best Austrian on the pitch) had a nasty injury in November and everyone could have seen that Alaba was clearly overplayed.

Janko was the only one who didn't perform to his club level, but the guy goes invisible whenever stuff doesn't go according to plan anyway.

Additionally it seems as if the entire team had adopted an "easy-going" attitude after qualification. No friendly until the tournament was what you'd call good. They were full of

unnecessary errors, a general lack of desire and completely broke with the "never-give-up" attitude that the team had conserved during the qualification. You can basically pinpoint

the moment, when the rot set in, and it was the first half against Montenegro, barely a month after the team had first qualified. Despite being the clearly superior side in terms of

ability, the team didn't feel like dealing with the physicality of the Montenegrins, a pattern that would also become visible against the Netherlands and now Hungary.

As the tournament approached, the hype around the team reached new heights. It was almost like a big collective delusion, that had gripped the nation and probably reflected back

on the footballers themselves. TV adverts, press conferences, TV programmes, photo shootings and so on and so forth dominated the schedule of the team. Whereas the Hungarians

secluded themselves for an entire month to prepare for the euros, the Austrians went on a big adventure trip to Switzerland, and clearly demonstrated in their friendlies against the

Netherlands and Malta, that the preparation was not going to according to plan. Of course it becomes easier to do such a thing when you have a large number of domestic players,

but why the hell did Fuchs dilly-dally for almost 3 weeks before joining up with the training staff?

To sum it up, the team went into France out of form, badly prepared, overconfident and with the wrong attitude. It was nowhere near the team that had ground out an impressive win

against Russia one year ago or that had trounced Sweden in Stockholm. All of it showed in the match. It's like the players wanted to remain static, pinging the ball around until an

opening appeared. Nobody made any runs whatsoever, the right side remained anonymous and there was a general lack of desire and commitment. Couple that with a Hungarian

team that was prepared to go the extra yard and put their bodies on the line and a referee that was somewhat hesitant to give cards for rougher challenges and you get today's result.

After the half time, the errors continued to mass up, until the first real breakdown of the defence and the first Hungarian goal. The red card was unlucky and also robbed the Austrians

off their equalizer, something that they'd never recover from.

Maybe the footballing nation simply wasn't ready for such a tournament. The team was, as it had shown during the qualifiers, capable enough. It was the unjustified hype and the

collective rot that brought it down from within. It will do them a world of good to crash out of the tournament (because I don't believe they will turn it around) and go into the wc

qualification with a better mindset. Maybe the supporters will know better than to lure the team into a false sense of complacency.

Das trifft es wirklich wie die Faust auf's Auge. Muss unbedingt nochmal zitiert werden.

Und irgendwie hab ich schon seit der Sache mit dem Hochseilgarten (und was war noch? Golf?) während die anderen EM-Teilnehmer gerade die intensivsten Einheiten hatten Angst bekommen...

Leider sind auch in der Vorbereitung Fehler gemacht worden. Holland als letzter Test war ein Blödsinn. Und auch ein Auswärtstest wäre dringend nötig gewesen. Das jedes Mal nur daheim testen tut der Mannschaft nicht gut!
