Didulica in Alkmaar

...anscheinend weiß es hier noch niemand, aber Didulica wurde vor mehr als 6 Wochen in einem MS-Spiel aus etwa 5m von seinem "Kumpel" Culina mit einem Hammerschuss niedergestreckt.

Er konnte noch nivht mal das Trainig aufnehmen, es ist bis jetzt noch keine Besserung bemerkbar, Alkmaar hat schon einen weiteren Tormann verpflichtet, an einen Einsatz von Didulica ist bis zum Frühjahr nicht zu denken.

Hab ich in der neuen Sport Woche gelesen, komisch, dass ihr nichts davon wisst, ... (oder hab ichs etwa doch beim suchen übersehen?)

gute besserung (sag ich als rapidler; hoffentlich erpsarens sich auch andere, von ausgleichender gerechtigkeit zu sprechen...)

Wie gesagt, es steht eh eine Seite davor. Auf seiner HP steht auch etwas darüber. Mitte November hat es aber noch schlechter ausgesehen, da dachte er, dass er heuer überhaupt nicht mehr trainieren wird. Dauert aber noch länger bis er wieder 100%ig fit ist. Als wir in Alkmaar waren, hat sich dann auch der 2. Tormann verletzt.

Vielleicht sollte die Staatsanwaltschaft diesen Herrn Culina auf die Anklagebank führen. Wie lautete die Anklageschrift nochmals? "Anklage wegen schwerer Körperverletzung"?

The ecstasy and agony of 2006 for Didulica

The year 2006 began on a high for the Australian/ Croatian keeper marrying his fiance Kate in a spectacular Melbourne wedding. The Geelong born Keeper then cancelled his honeymoon to join his Austria Vienna teammates in the Austrian Alpes as they prepared for the second half of the season. A fresh and enthusiastic Didulica knew that any lapse in concentration would allow the highly ambitious Red Bull Salzburg to close in on their two point lead at the top of the table.

" I already have both hands on the Championship" he said in January..." The boys from Red Bull will have to cut them off to take it away from me. It won't happen."

Didulica began after the winter break having not conceded a goal for 756+ minutes (since October of 2005) but was beaten after 894 minutes of play, setting a new FK Austrian record.

Didulica's smile was soon to turn into a frown as an Austrian Criminal court found Didulica guilty and fined him 60,000 euro (A100,000), for a foul he committed in a game against rivals Rapid Vienna in 05.

The media freenzy which surrounded the absurd decision had an obvious affect on Didulica. The once flamboyant keeper was reserved, and not speaking out. While journalists asked he seek psychological help, others questioned the effect this could have on FK Austria's title hopes. But one thing was certain, all were concerned.

Didulica's anguish was short lived and a determined and focussed Didulica returned for FK Austria.

He may have lost the court case, but Didulica won the hearts of many, and steered FK Austria to the League double, winning the Championship and Cup.

To cap off the 05/06 Didulica was crowned 'Austrian Goalkeeper of the year.'

With having had such a successful football season, Didulica was selected in Zlatko 'cico' Kranjcar's Croatian squad for the World Cup in Germany, but spent all of the time on the bench. And watch he did, as Australia, the country of his birth took second place in the group ahead of the uninspiring Croats.

The word was out that Didulica was frustrated at the way in which he was unprotected by the Footballing world in Austria and wanted a move. With rumours of a Spain or German move, Didulica decided to move back to his European roots, to the league he began his European adventure. He decided to sign for Louis Van Gaal's AZ Alkmaar in The Netherlands.

Didulica had little time to waste as his wife Kate was to be expecting their first child in mid July. His handling skills were surely needed as baby Angelina flew into this world a couple of days earlier on the 12th of July.

" What a six months I've had" Didulica said. " With all the highs and of course the lows, the birth of Angelina can not be surpassed. It's a blessing, a real miracle."

Didulica's return to the Dutch league was far from easy having made a mistake for the goal against in AZ's 8-1 victory. But sure enough, it was Didulica's drive for success that turned things around. AZ with good performances from Didulica qualified for the Uefa cup and now play Turkey Champions Ferenbache in the round of 16.

Didulica remained undefeated for AZ until October 22, when he was knocked unconscious by former teammate, Australian international and close friend Jason Culina. The PSV utility came one on one with Didulica and fired a shot which unfortunately struck Didulica in the face. Didulica's comeback was short lived and specialists have advise Didulica remain out of action until the middle of February 2007.

Joseph Anthony Didulica has lived a year on each side of the spectrum. Some days on top of the world holding up Championship trophies and the next sitting in a criminal court. One minute getting married and having his first child, and the next lying in a hospital bed after spending 50 minutes unconscious. Making a transfer and being involved in a Footballing World Cup.

If 2006 is anything to go by, then 2007 should be .........well..........very interesting!
