Mido vor Wechsel zu Middlesbrough

Der ägyptische Nationalspieler Ahmed Mido steht kurz vor dem Wechsel von den Tottenham Hotspurs zum englischen Premier-League-Verein Middlesbrough.

Der 24-jährige Stürmer muss vor der Vertragsunterschrift nur noch den Medizin-Check bestehen, gab der Verein des derzeit verletzten Österreich-Legionärs Emanuel Pogatetz am Dienstag bekannt. Die Ablösesumme soll sich auf umgerechnet 8,8 Millionen Euro belaufen.

Mido konnte sich in der Vorsaison bei den Spurs nicht durchsetzen. Seine Chance verschlechterte sich zudem durch den nun für 24,3 Millionen Euro verpflichteten Stürmer Darren Bent von Charlton Athletic.

In der Sport Bild ist eine Story über Boateng. Er hängt wohl ständig mit Drogba rum. Die Engländer (bzw. Londoner) sind sehr interessiert am Prinzen und nennen ihm Ghetto Kid. Er gilt schon als zukünftige Marketing Maschine. Ich hoffe, dass er sich zunächst mal auf Fussball konzentrieren wird, bevor er dann die ersten Werbeverträge annehmen wird. Juande Ramos has declared his readiness to resign as Sevilla coach and become the new Tottenham manager, with the White Hart Lane board hopeful of closing the deal this week. Ramos could even take charge for Sunday's fixture against Manchester United.

Ramos met with the Tottenham club secretary John Alexander and vice-chairman Paul Kemsley at the Alfonso XIII hotel in Seville last Friday. And although both parties tried to downplay the significance of the meeting, claiming that it was entirely coincidental, Martin Jol's position at Tottenham has become untenable.

Ramos is keen to move to White Hart Lane having been assured by Spurs that there will be no problems terminating Jol's contract. The Spaniard is now waiting for a formal offer from Tottenham to confirm the basis of the deal presented to him during Friday's meeting.

Jol's relationship with the board and with the sporting director, Damien Comolli, has deteriorated. Some reports suggest that he recently asked his chairman, Daniel Levy, to sell Dimitar Berbatov after the Bulgarian reacted angrily to being substituted against Sunderland on the season's opening day, only for his employer to side with the player. Spurs now believe that the Dutchman has taken the side as far as he can and that they need a new coach to challenge for a top-four finish. Spurs have had a longstanding interest in Ramos, and they are now keen to have him in place before this weekend's match.

Ramos has never hidden his desire to coach in the Premiership and was close to a move to Manchester City in the summer. He wants to leave the Sanchez Pizjuán, where he feels he can no longer work with the president Jose Maria del Nido. He is also aware that Sevilla's astonishing recent success may not be sustainable - something that has been underlined by the almost certain departure of their star player, Daniel Alves.

Having won the Spanish Super Cup, defeating Real Madrid 5-3 at the Bernabéu on Sunday, Ramos believes he will leave Sevilla on a high. He is keen not to start the Spanish league season, which begins against Getafe on Saturday, because he does not want to depart as a villain who left his club in the lurch.

Both Tottenham and Ramos may have to brace themselves for a fight, however. Although Ramos has resisted attempts to persuade him to sign a new contract, he still has a year remaining on his deal and the club have become notorious for difficult negotiations. Ramos also missed a window of opportunity during the summer, when he could have walked away upon payment of €500,000 (£340,000). That July 7 deadline has now passed and their president will react angrily to his departure.

Sevilla won their first trophy in more than 45 years under Ramos and he has led them to five in the past 15 months alone. Sunday's Super Cup went with the Copa del Rey, two successive Uefa Cup victories, and last season's European Super Cup, plus a first-ever place in the Champions League off the back of a season in which they went into the final day with the title still a possibility. All done with a budget a seventh the size of Real Madrid's.

For Jol, it seems there is no way back. Levy fears that the Dutchman lacks the wit to outmanoeuvre his counterparts at the big four - Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal - and feels that hewould be neglecting his duties were he not to cast around for alternatives. Accordingly, he authorised Kemsley and Alexander to do a deal with Ramos at their meeting in Spanish city on Friday night.

Tottenham started the season with two defeats, at promoted Sunderland and at home to Everton, to set the alarm bells ringing but they coped with the pressure of last Saturday's must-win fixture against Derby County at White Hart Lane, winning 4-0. Jol admitted that the consequences of defeat against Derby would have been "horrendous" but his players performed for him and are thought to be divided over the prospect of him leaving.

Jol has also been hit by injuries, particularly in defence, and he continues to feel that when he has everyone available he has a team to rival any in the top four. The chances of him being around to select it now appear slim indeed.

The Club is aware that there has been much speculation over the past few days in respect of our Manager, Martin Jol. As you know, the Club does not respond to speculation, but we do feel in this instance it is important to clarify the current position. Manager Martin Jol and Assistant Manager, Chris Hughton met with the Chairman, Sporting Director Damien Comolli and members of the Board today – discussions were held re-confirming our aims for the season, the development of the full potential of the squad and taking the Club forward.

“We have had two good, progressive seasons with fifth place finishes. I am an ambitious Chairman, we are an ambitious Club and we want Champions League football at White Hart Lane,” commented Chairman, Daniel Levy. “We, the Board, owe it to the Club and the supporters to constantly assess our position and performance and to ensure that we have the ability to operate and compete at that level. We have made a massive investment in the squad and as a result we have the best squad of players this Club has had for over 20 years and they are equally hungry for success and silverware. For that we need our management and coaching standards to be of the highest quality such that players can fulfil their potential and we can compete with the best. We have discussed all of these expectations with Martin and he has confirmed to me today that he feels he is equipped with a squad and a determination to take on that challenge.”

Martin added: “We had a full and frank conversation and I fully understand the ambitions of the Club – they are the same as those of the supporters. He has put a lot of hard work into this Club and with the squad of players we have assembled, it is realistic that we should look to challenge for a top four position and I have assured him and the Board that that is what I shall aim for.

“The last two seasons we have finished fifth and this season we start with an even better team. So we should be optimistic. Yes, it is pressure to deliver, but that is what we managers should expect. Hopefully all the media will relax now – all I shall be concentrating on is each and every game.”

Tottenham war immer ein ambitionierter Klub, und das ist auch gut und richtig so, allerdings gefällt mir der unnötige Druck nicht, den man ihm macht. Wenn die Medien etwas von Top 4 schreiben, ist das eine Sache, aber wenn selbst Levy das erwartet, wirds haarig. He's got no hair, but we don't care - Martin, Martin Jol. Das große Ziel, das man in absehbarer Zukunft erreichen möchte, muß die Champions League sein, aber das mit unserem Kader fast schon als Minimalziel zu betrachten, ist Irrsinn.

Die interessanteste Frage ist im Moment ohnehin, wer wirklich Geld in die Hand bekommen und die Entscheidung getroffen hat, Petrov nicht zu holen (gut, angeblich wollte er eine Stammplatzgarantie), ferner gar keinen LM oder Flügelspieler zu holen (außer Lennon gibts keinen im Kader, sieht man von Routledge ab) und dass Jenas - Zokora ein gutes zentrales Mittelfeld abgeben.
