Chivu wanted by Real

Thursday 23 December, 2004

Roma ace Cristian Chivu is wanted by Real Madrid, while the Spanish giants could sell Roberto Carlos to Inter.

Reports in Italy on Thursday claim that the Romanian is high on the wish list of new Real technical director Arrigo Sacchi.

The former Italy boss is keen to tighten things up defensively in Madrid and Chivu is a top priority.

The proposed swoop could be problematic though as the player is contracted to the Giallorossi until 2008.

Juventus and Milan are also likely to show an interest in the stopper if he becomes available for transfer.

Real may perhaps be in need of a new defender with speculation suggesting that Roberto Carlos is set to be sold.

The Brazilian’s relationship with Real is allegedly deteriorating and a January exit may even be on the cards.

Some whispers claim that Inter could bring him back to the club after he spent one season with the Nerazzurri in the mid 1990s.

The San Siro giants do have problems in the left-back role with Giuseppe Favalli, Giovanni Pasquale and Francesco Coco all failing to inspire.

The South American is a favourite of owner Massimo Moratti and boss Roberto Mancini is unlikely to block any move.

Dec 26 2004

ADRIAN MUTU has signed a pre-contractual agreement to join Italian giants Juventus when he becomes free to resume his career.

Chelsea, who sacked the captain of Romania - now serving a seven-month ban from the game - are furious.

The Blues have had to write off the £15.8million they paid Parma for him 18 months ago and are set to legally challenge his right to join another club without Chelsea getting compensation. The club's chief executive Peter Kenyon insists they will pursue Mutu through the courts and are refusing to release his registration papers despite sacking him in October.

The preliminary hearings for the case, which could have massive repercussions, will take place next month. Mutu is being represented by PFA lawyers arguing that Chelsea's decision to sack him denied them the right to claim compensation. They will claim Chelsea are acting outside the law in refusing to release his registration papers, alleging restraint of trade.

However, Chelsea claim that despite sacking the player they have every right to reclaim some of the fee they paid Parma.

The Blues feel that at the very least they are within their right to retain Mutu's registration to the length of his four-year contract, which still has two-and-a-half years to run."

Mutu nets Juve deal? Tuesday 28 December, 2004

Adrian Mutu has signed a pre-contract agreement with Juventus, according to reports in Romania.

The forward is currently suspended and without a club after he tested positive for cocaine earlier this season.

However, the 'Gazeta Sportuliror' newspaper claims that the Italian outfit have offered him a fresh start after Chelsea sacked him.

Mutu, who is available for nothing, has been strongly associated with a switch to Turin in the past and a deal seems to be on the horizon.

It is claimed that Juve have already wrapped up a deal for the international in a bid to beat the competition.

Although Mutu did fail a drugs test, he still has many admirers in the game after his impressive spells at Verona and Parma.

Roma, Fiorentina and Palermo are other Italian clubs keeping an eye on his situation.

Should Mutu move in at the Stadio Delle Alpi then Fabrizio Miccoli is likely to remain at Fiorentina.

The Italian joined the Viola in the summer after Juventus opted to keep the faith with Alex Del Piero.
