goleador2000 Walk like an Egyptian Geschrieben 25. Juni 2004 Chelsea's £36M deal on for Liverpool ace Gerrard tribalfootball.com - June 25, 2004 Chelsea are set to land Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in a mega £35.8 million deal. The Daily Express says Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has upped his original £31 million proposal to convince Liverpool to sell. Gerrard will land a package worth £120,000-a-week and team up with England colleague Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge. Before last night's defeat against Portugal, Gerrard admitted: "I think the playing relationship with Frank is gelling really well. "I enjoy playing in the same midfield with Frank because, first and foremost, he is a magnificent player. He's also a very intelligent one. "People think that when I'm playing in the same midfield as Frank, I've got to sit back and do all the defensive work. "It's not always like that. though. I can go forward as well because I know he's very clever and he'll be disciplined when I've gone on a run." Hört sich nicht gut an und gefällt mir absolut nicht ...angeblich sollen uns von Chelsea Damien Duff und Scott Parker offeriert worden sein(unbestätigtes Gerücht, daß bereits wieder dementiert wurde...)...harren wir der Dinge die da kommen, aber es sieht nicht gut aus, scheinbar hat sich Stevie bereits entschieden die Reds zu verlassen... 0 Zitieren Diesen Beitrag teilen Link zum Beitrag Auf anderen Seiten teilen

ianrush Pass And Move - It's The Liverpool Groove Geschrieben 26. Juni 2004 (bearbeitet) Gerrard owes fans another year Season 2003-04 | Author: Steve Horton | Date: 15.6.2004 As Liverpool?s hunt for a new manager draws to a close, I am getting more and more worried that the captain will be one of the first players out of the Anfield exit door. It?s not the buying power of Chelsea that worries me, as I am confident we would resist any bid they made. Instead it?s the fact the man at the centre of it all wont come out and deny the stories, that have been printed in the better quality press. Steven Gerrard is a world class player, local boy made good who almost single handed dragged is into the Champions League. He had signed a new contract when qualification was far from certain and when the Thai Prime minister hadn?t even heard of us. Yet suddenly we get the qualification he craved, major investment is on the cards and he may want to leave. He cant use the possibility of the Thai deal collapsing as an excuse, as that was not on the table when he signed, nor can he use money. He is financially secure for life already, any move to Chelsea will be motivated by greed not the desire to win things. A few days after the season ended he told Liverpoolfc.tv ?'My message to the fans would be that hopefully I can continue to perform as consistently as I have done this season and lift a trophy for them soon?.It goes without saying that we all want to make next season a better one than this. In fact we won?t have another season like this, I?m positive about that.? It was fairly upbeat yet frank talk from the captain and implied that he was determined and confident that things would be better in 2004-5. He admitted he wasn?t satisfied with fourth, as far as he was concerned it saved an otherwise disappointing season. It was a fair enough comment and only echoed the thoughts of fans. At the end of May, after Houllier had been sacked Gerrard said in another interview that the next three months were one of the most crucial periods in the clubs history and that it was essential the right manager was appointed. Little more than two weeks on we are on the brink of appointing Benitez, who has just led his side to two Spanish titles in three years. If that?s not the right man I really don?t know who is. No new players have arrived yet, but that?s because Rick Parry and David Moores prefer to let the manager look after team matters, unlike their counterparts at Chelsea. When Benitez is in post, we?ll see more transfer activity. If Gerrard isn?t happy and won?t say he is committed to the club, he is letting everyone down and going back on his word. He owes it to the club that made him to give it one more season under a new manager and if we don?t improve then he can fulfil his potential elsewhere, no problem. Gerrard is actually under contract for four more years, so we could tell him to honour that but there?s no point. We saw how he stank for a spell in 2002-3 when he couldn?t be bothered. If we can get £40 million for an unhappy player then its good business but Gerrard will be right down there with Luis Figo, Alan Smith and Sol Campbell in the gutter turncoats club. ______________________ Captain Carragher Season 2003-04 | Author: Steve Horton | Date: 21.6.2004 Whether Steven Gerrard leaves or not (and it?s my belief that he will) his relationship with Liverpool fans has been indelibly scarred. Even if he does stay, the fact he had to take time to consider whether he wanted to honour just one year of a contract he signed only a few months ago will never be forgotten. That it is Chelsea who tempt him, a club with no history of success or widespread support makes it even worse and leads people to suspect it is greed alone that is his motivation. In my opinion, his position as captain is now untenable. The captain is meant to be a player who others look up to, but Gerrard has been setting an appalling example. Rather than respect his contract, he is telling the chief executive to get some new signings or else and that his mobile is switched on should he wish to discuss who the next manager is. Can you imagine John Smith asking Emlyn Hughes or Tommy Smith who they wanted to replace Bill Shankly in 1974, or getting the advice of Graeme Souness before appointing Joe Fagan in 1983? The job if the team captain is to organise the players on the pitch in games, not to hire and fire the manager and sign players. Gerrard should remember that, keep his mouth shut and let Rick Parry get on with making the important decisions. There have been lots of rumours about how much power Gerrard has been trying to wield the last few months, with one being that he was picking the team for the final few games of the season. Whether that?s true or not I can?t say, but what I do know just from his comments to the media is that he has been placing a great deal of importance on himself. So I find it confused that he wants to go to Chelsea, where he will be a squad player and have to take orders from John Terry. Still, the £130,000 a week will compensate for that somewhat. So that leaves the question of who should be appointed captain when he leaves or is stripped of the armband for blind arrogance. Sami Hyypia has regained his form since losing the captaincy and I feel he should be left to continue this improvement. Didi Hamman is well respected and a popular figure in the dressing room, but I honestly think his best Premiership days are behind him and we need to be looking forward. Michael Owen?s situation is still to be resolved and although I think he?ll give Benitez a year at least, he is still quiet on the pitch and should stick to scoring goals. That leaves Jamie Carragher, someone who has been a first team regular for six years, commands respect, isn?t afraid of making himself heard and will run through brick walls for Liverpool FC. He may not be our greatest player, but will never let the manager, his team mates or supporters down. He is ten times the man Steven Gerrard is and Benitez recognises his importance, having referred to him in his inaugural press conference. One of the new managers first tasks in charge should be to hand the armband to a local lad who recognises the meaning of the word ?loyalty?. ___________________________ London Calling? When the fixtures came out yesterday, many Kopites took an interest in the date of the Chelski home match. If media speculation is to be believed, 1st January could be the next time we see Stevie G at Anfield. Ever since Abramovich strutted into Stamford Bridge with his wallet burning a hole in his back pocket, he has wanted Gerrard for his dream team. Alleged offers were laughed off last season and Gerrard didn't even contemplate leaving. How things have changed. Liverpool are still desparate to keep Gerrard but interpretating what Stevie wants is far less clear. Gerrard has not let his intentions be known. Aware that Abramovich would return with his cheque book, Liverpool did everything in their power to keep Gerrard. Last season, Houllier bestowed the club captaincy upon Gerrard, ensuring a lifelong ambition was fulfilled. The captaincy also helped him realised how significant he is to the club. A month later, a contract was offered to him that would keep him at the club until 2007 and make him one of the club's highest earners in their history. Gerrard immediately signed on the dotted line to secure his future with the club he loves. Gerrard sparkled in his new role as captain, often hitting heights of near perfection in his play. Almost single-handely, Gerrard hoisted the club into the Champions League after turning in brilliant performances week after week. Things have changed since our fourth placed finish. Gerrard has often stated that fourth place is not an achievement. The vast majority of Liverpool fans around the world will agree with him. Gerrard is the kind of player who would adopt the Shankly ethos of "first is first, second is nothing" as his personal motto. Finishing 30 points behind the Premiership champions and watching the Champions League from the comfort of his front room is clearly frustrating for a player of Gerrard's calibre. Perhaps Gerrard began to question the direction of the club long before the end of last season. To quote Rick Parry, Gerrard's misgivings were "deep-seated" before he departed for Portugal. Mingling with the England squad will no doubt have had an impact on Gerrard's thoughts. Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell can boast of claiming a Premiership medal. Scholes, Butt and the other United monsters can yield an FA Cup winners medal when asked of what they achieved in 03/04. Terry and Lampard can regail tales of reaching the Champions League semi finals. Even Beckham and Hargreaves can point to their participation in a title race in their respective leagues. Gerrard can not flash the medals his incredible performances deserved. Medals is what makes Gerrard tick but obviously money would have a huge bearing on his decision. 98% of the general public would leave their job for better wages and I'm sure even Gerrard must be tempted by the alleged figures on the table. Chelski are reported to have offered Gerrard a staggering £115,000 a week in a five year deal. Liverpool cannot seriously compete with these figures. With Chelski boasting the bigger back balance, the only thing that can keep Gerrard at the club is his loyalty and Rafael Benitez. Of course, this depends on whether Gerrard believes Benitez is the right man for the job. Parry spoke to Gerrard and Owen about possible replacements for Houllier. Rafael Benitez's pedigree certainly proves that he is more than qualified to restore the glory days to the club but if Gerrard isn't happy with his appointment, then Liverpool may well be resigned to losing Gerrard. Parry has expressed concerns that Gerrard's mind is made up but has said that "I hope the door isn't shut." Kopites hope that the door remains ajar. Gerrard owes it to the club and every asingle fan that sang his name and cheered him on to speak to Benitez and listen to what he plans to do with the club. Benitez is a winner. Two La Liga titles and a UEFA Cup with limited funds prove this. No doubt that Benitez would like to mould his new side around the figure of Gerrard. It would certainly be unfair not to have talks with Benitez and leave without a word. Benitez deserves a say. Gerrard must ask himself if he is capable of walking out of Liverpool; the club he cheered as a lad and has played for, giving no less than 110% every time he has worn the Liver Bird upon his chest. Loyalty is a thing that is lacking in the modern game. Alan Smith's transfer to Man Utd proves that alleigance to the club that you supported as a child is virtually dead. Gerrard must realise that if he were to leave for Chelski, many Kopites would never be able to forgive him. It would quite simply, be viewed as a betrayal. If Gerrard were to leave, the reaction would be far worse than anyone can imagine. The words bandied about on many internet forums would be intensified. Gerrard's name on Merseyside would be besmirched. Maybe Gerrard would be more likely to win major honours at Chelski but would he get the same satisfaction if he helped steer Liverpool to silverware? As Stretord's finest often remind us, it has been 14 years since the League championship took pride of place in the Anfield trophy cabinet. If Benitez and Gerrard were to catapult Liverpool back to the heady days of the 80's and claim the elusive 19th Championship and return the European Cup to Anfield, the pair would be revered amongst Liverpool fans. Their names would go down in history. The two would be worshipped in the same way Paisley and Dalglish are. Some at Anfield believe Gerrard has what it takes to become a great Liverpool manager in the future. Could Gerrard toss the hopes and aspirations of Kopites everywhere into the gutter in favour of a move to London? If Gerrard were to leave, the scenario I have mentioned in the last paragraph would remain a dream for the foreseeable future. Juni 2004 GERRARD STAYS AT ANFIELD...WHAT ABOUT OWEN ??? Liverpool are "reasonably optimistic" that Michael Owen will sign a new long-term contract after captain Steve Gerrard pledged his future to the club. Owen said it "would be catastrophic" if the dynamic England midfielder left Anfield with Chelsea his expected destination. But in a surprise development Gerrard, who signed a four-year deal last November, appeared at a news conference today to announce he was going nowhere. Now Liverpool chief executive Ricky Parry is hoping England striker Owen - who has 12 months to run on his current deal - will follow suit. Asked if Gerrard's decision could influence Owen, Parry said: "I don't think what has happened today can do any harm. That's our next challenge. "Michael is very important to our future. We hope he will commit himself to the club. "We have have always been reasonably optimistic he will do." Gerrard revealed he been contemplating leaving his hometown team - he was born and brought up in neighbouring Huyton - and one where he had arrived as an eight-year-old. But he decided to remain close to his roots after a talking things through with his close-knit family. "The last three of four weeks have been really confusing for me," he said. "I have been involved in a big tournament and that's the reason I have been really quiet about my future. "I have not really been happy with the progress the club has made the last two years as I have often told the media. "For the first time in my career I thought about the possibility of leaving Liverpool for another club. "But after Euro 2004 and sitting down with my family, having another meeting with Rick and spending time with my agent, I am staying on at Liverpool. "I am 100% committed to the club. I've gone with a decision that's been in my heart. "I love the club, I love the supporters and that's what it boiled down to at the end of the day." Parry admitted that there were fears Gerrard might leave before the start of the season - the first under new coach Rafael Benitez. But he claimed there had been "no false promises " or no "arm twisting" leading to Gerrard's statement of intent in the Anfield trophy room. "We knew Stevie had some big decisions to make and it would be tough for him," said Parry. "There were times when realistically we did fear he would be off. "We had a few heart to heart discussions in recent weeks and there was a lot of soul searching. "He is fiercely ambitious and we respect that completely. "We always hoped fervently that we could persuade Steven to stay but in the end not a lot of persuasion was needed. "This was his decision - a decision from the heart. This is a club he has loved since he was a boy. He couldn't leave. "When it came to the crunch, he said 'This is my club and where I want to stay"'. Danke Stevie !!!

goleador2000 Walk like an Egyptian Geschrieben 9. Juli 2004 (bearbeitet) Liverpool to swoop for Milan defender? by Editor :: 2004-07-09, 04:23 Wechselt der ehemalige U20-Weltmeister an die Anfield Road ??? Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is chasing AC Milan defender Fabricio Coloccini. The Independent says Coloccini could be on his way to Anfield in a cut-price move - either for a £3.5m fee or on loan for the season. Coloccini, 22, belongs to Milan but has spent the past three seasons in Spain with temporary deals to Alaves, Atletico Madrid and Villareal. Benitez sees the powerful defender as a younger version of Valencia stopper Roberto Ayala and has already put feelers out for Coloccini, who had a reputation for being volatile in Italy, and may now make a formal bid. Fabricio Coloccini is more than a promising talent for the future. He joined Milan from the legendary Boca Juniors, the team with which Diego Armando Maradona made his name before departing for Europe and Barcelona. Fabricio came up through Boca´s youth system, and even debuted for the club in one match. The 18-year-old central defender has also worn the colours of Argentina through all the ranks, from under-16s to under-20s, and has even been summoned into Marcelo Bielsa´s senior side. A dual national, Coloccini will wear the number 28 shirt. He lives in Gallarate, close to Milanello, with his sister and mother, both of whom have joined him in Italy. Indeed, the player is following in a family tradition, as his father Osvaldo played almost 400 matches over 14 seasons with Velez in the Argentine top flight, and proved to be a huge favourite with the fans. Coloccini was discovered by Nestor Peckerman, the man responsible for the Argentina youth ranks, and who engineered the player´s successful shift from midfield to the centre of defence - where he has proved hugely influential. With Boca he played in the centre of a back four, while for Alberto Zaccheroni he is expected to be deployed as a left-back in a three-man defence. Coloccini´s self-proclaimed role model is Boca´s current central defender, Walter Adrian Samuel, who has himself been linked with a number of top Italian clubs.
