«Besuch der alten Dame»

Fussball-Leckerbissen im STADE DE SUISSE: Am Freitag, 12. Oktober 2007 (Anpfiff 19:30 Uhr) gastiert Juventus Turin, auch die «alte Dame» genannt, zum internationalen Freundschafts- und Testspiel gegen YB in Bern.

Juventus Turin reist gemäss Vertrag mit der bestmöglichen Mannschaft nach Bern: Nedved, Zanetti, Salihamidzic, Birindella, Olivera und Co. werden dem BSC Young Boys Gelegenheit zu einer willkommenen internationalen Standortbestimmung bieten. Noch offen ist, welche der zahlreichen Internationalen (u.a. Del Piero, Buffon, Camoranesi, Iaquinta, Trézéguet, Jorge Andrade, Tiago, Grygera, Chiellini, Palladino und Criscito) Juve-Trainer Claudio Ranieri im Spiel gegen die Gelb-Schwarzen zur Verfügung stehen werden.

Juventus Turin (Juventus Torino Football Club), zweifacher Sieger der Champions League, ist mit 27 Meistertiteln der Serie A der erfolgreichste italienische Klub. Er ist übrigens nur ein paar Monate älter als der BSC Young Boys: Die «alte Dame» Juve wurde am 1. November 1897 gegründet. Der Klub gehört zu jenen Vereinen, die weltweit über die grösste Fangemeinde verfügen.

Test in Switzerland on the 12th of October

It seems Juventus are making a habit of playing international friendlies whenever there's a break in the League. After the friendly in Zaragoza on the 10th of September, Ranieri's team will take advantage of the mid-October break for another European match. Friday the 12th the Bianconeri are expected in Switzerland, in Berne, to face local team Young Boys. The game is scheduled for 7.30 pm at the Stade de Suisse, one of the facilities to be used during the 2008 European Championships finals.

Young Boys are one of the best-known clubs in Switzerland. They've been going strong for 109 years - they were founded in March 1898 -, which makes them one of the oldest clubs in the country, but they're also one of the most successful. They've won the Swiss League 11 times (the first time in 1903, the last in 1986), the Swiss Cup 6 times, the Swiss League Cup once and the Swiss Super Cup also once.

Young Boys are fighting for the title this year too, after finishing in fourth place last season (when ex-Juventus player Davide Chiumiento joined them for a period before going on to Lucerne), a placing that earned them the right to play the UEFA Cup preliminary rounds - but they had no luck in the competition, and were kicked out by French team Lens. At the moment they're in third place behind Basel and FC Zurich, having won 5, drawn 4 and lost 2 out of the 11 matches they've played.

The Swiss team are coached for the second season in a row by Martin Andermatt, and the squad includes Hakan Yakin, who used to be at Basel and while there played twice against Juventus during the 2002/03 Champions League.

Juventus and Young Boys have met twice before, in the 1960's - both matches were played in Berne, in a tournament of the period called the Alps Cup. They won one match each. In 1966, Dell'Omodarme scored both goals in a 2-0 win for Juventus. Two years later, the Swiss team got their revenge winning 3-1, Zigoni scoring Juventus' only goal near the end of the match.

Gute Sache, wenn Marchionni und Iaquinta wieder fit sind, können dort Spielpraxis sammeln. Camoranesi ist wohl noch länger verletzt genauso wie Boumsong und Andrade sowieso. Aber auch für den gesperrten Zebina und den derzeitigen "Bankspielern", wie Birindelli, Tiago, Almiron und Olivera kommt das Spiel nicht ungelegen. Finde es sehr gut das man in Länderspielpause solche Spiele einschiebt, ist neu seit heure bei uns.

Domenech: Trezeguet Is Nothing Special

France Coach Raymond Domenech has further intensified his recent spat with David Trezeguet by claiming that Karim Benzema is better than the Juventus star and that there are a host of other strikers just as good as him.

Domenech shocked all those that have been watching football this season by dropping Trezeguet from his squad to face the Faroe Islands and Lithuania.

The Bianconeri hitman has been in murderous form this campaign and is currently top-scorer in Serie A with seven goals from as many games. Trezegol also boasts a virtual one-in-two international goal-scoring ratio with 34 strikes in 69 appearances for Les Bleus.

Despite this Domenech instead chose to pick Bolton's Nicolas Anelka, Karim Benzema and Sidney Govou of Lyon, Barcelona's Thierry Henry and Louis Saha of Manchester United.

Now, with Louis Saha pulling out due to injury, Domenech has once again refused to summon Trezeguet.

"I'm happy the players who have shown up already, and I appreciate their value," Domenech pointed out at France’s training camp in Clairefontaine.

“I didn’t choose Trezeguet because there are other players who are just as good.”

“I am the one who makes the decisions and that is what I have done.

“I’m not saying that David isn’t a quality player, but there are others who offer a bit more such as Benzema who can play in the centre or on the wing.”

The Juve forward has offered unfavourable comparisons between Domenech and certain Italian club coaches. The French coach, predictably, insisted that it's water off a duck's back.

He shrugged, "Whatever he says doesn't relate to me. My concern is with being the coach of France."

Moving on to discuss the football itself, he said, "We have a gun pointed at our head.

"That's good, it's going to motivate us. It's like playing cup matches – if we lose a game, we're out. We know that. We have to fight and play much faster. If we want to qualify, we need to win our three remaining matches."

Indeed, France currently sit two points off top spot side Scotland, and one behind Italy.

Medical bulletin

The match against Fiorentina was distinguished by a relatively high level of fair play; however, a few Bianconeri are suffering from injuries picked up during the game.

Sergio Bernardo Almiron sprained his ankle a little, but he'll be available for the game in Berne.

Raffaele Palladino suffered a slight knee sprain. He will rest this week and probably take up training again next Tuesday. Therefore he won't be available for the Berne friendly, but will be back for the League match against Genoa.

David Trezeguet is suffering from a relapse of his kneecap tendon problem and will have to miss Friday's game against Young Boys too, but he should be available against Genoa.

Vincenzo Iaquinta was hit on the knee Sunday and underwent a nuclear magnetic resonance test with the National team medical staff, which ruled out anything serious. He should be able to make Saturday's Italy vs. Georgia match.

In the meantime, all the long-term injured players are recovering. Marchionni and Camoranesi in particular are doing very well. The former is perfectly on schedule, while the latter will undergo a nuclear magnetic resonance test to check how his muscle injury is healing. Both should be back for late October or the beginning of November. Boumsong will also undergo a nuclear magnetic resonance test soon, but it'll take him a little longer to recover.

And lastly, Andrade: the Portuguese player has returned to Turin after a period of convalescence in Lisbon, recuperating from his surgery. The knee is in excellent condition. A check-up is scheduled for next Tuesday in Marseille and he should be able to begin physiotherapy within ten days.

Naja, hatte auch so Van der Vaart'sche Anwandlungen als ein paar Großklubs angeklopft haben. Ich mochte ihn noch nie wirklich, seit dem Sommer hab ich eigentlich überhaupt keine Lust, ihn in unseren Farben zu sehen.

Del Piero in black and white until 2010

Juventus and Alessandro Del Piero have renewed the sporting contract until 2010.

Alessandro Del Piero has signed the agreement today in Juventus headquarter.

Na Gott sei Dank ist da kein Blödsinn herausgekommen und Del Piero beendet seine Karriere bei uns. Angeblich soll er 08/09 ca. 4 Mio. € und 09/10 ca. 3,5 Mio € verdienen, damit er dann ins Management wechselt.

Congratulazioni capitano!

E’ davvero una settimana indimenticabile per Alessandro Del Piero. Martedì scorso il rinnovo del contratto con la Juventus. Domenica il gol partita nella gara contro il Genoa. E nella notte la gioia più bella. La moglie Sonia ha infatti dato alla luce il piccolo Tobias, il loro primo figlio.

Ad Alessandro e a Sonia le più grandi congratulazioni da parte della Juventus e di tutti i suoi tifosi.

Buffon in running for Golden Ball award

Gianluigi Buffon is undeniably the best goalkeeper in the world. And this is confirmed at the end of each year, when the various footballers' award nominations are announced, as his name is always on the list. Even 6 months away from Europe haven't tarnished Super Gigi's reputation.

So after being nominated for FIFA World Player of the year, Buffon also made the shortlist of world players nominated for the Golden Ball, the award given out by France Football magazine. After coming second last year behind his friend Cannavaro, this is another chance for him to try and win.

The goalkeeper is the only Juventus player on the list, but there are plenty of other Italians, as many as eight in total: apart from Buffon, we find Pirlo, Gattuso, Maldini, Inzaghi, Totti, Toni and current award holder Fabio Cannavaro.
