Footballers wanted for Leipzig match!

Yes you read it right, FC United are appealing for players for a football match in Leipzig. Unfortunately for the budding Topeys and Pattersons out there, it is not the match with Lokomotive on the Friday, but instead a fans’ match on the Saturday, kick off at 2pm. We are looking for a big squad to enable those who either overdid it the night before, or who’s fitness is not as it should be, to roll on and off as the mood dictates.

The game will take place in the shadow of Leipzig’s stadium, and we may even see a celebrity manager for the FC side! If you will be in Leipzig on the Saturday afternoon, own a pair of boots and shin pads and fancy a match, please contact club secretary Luc Zentar at [email protected] to register your interest.

Awards For FC

We are delighted to announce that the Non-League Paper (NLP) has awarded FC United ’Club of the Year’ and Rory Patterson ’Player of the Year’ for Step 6 in its annual awards.

The Club of the Year title is a national award for the whole of non-league football so there were a whole host of worthy candidates this year, which makes winning the accolade extra special.

A number of club officials and playing staff were delighted to receive the awards at a brief presentation at Gigg Lane on Wednesday night and were equally thankful to Sammy McIllroy for taking time to come and present them.

Board member Jules Spencer said: "We are made up to receive the NLP’s top award and thank them for honouring us with it, particularly as there are countless of other non-league clubs with a longer history than ours that could lay claim to the title.

“Teams such as Accrington Stanley who returned to the Football League, or clubs such as Tamworth, Northwich Victoria, Nuneaton Borough and Burton Albion who all reached the third round of the FA Cup. Nonetheless the award caps our own amazing season."

In order to purchase season tickets, renew your membership or buy new memberships please visit our supporters’ database via the following link:

http://www.fcapps.co.uk/?tabid=54&ctl=login

Why be a member?

Last season, anybody donating to the club was automatically enrolled as a member of FC United of Manchester, however for season 2006/07 we will be operating a membership scheme with a fixed price (as agreed by the membership at the General Meeting in March) - £10 adults and £3 Under 18s.

Membership of FC United of Manchester is unique because you become a co-owner of the football club. You are purchasing one share, which cannot be sold or transferred; this entitles you to have a direct input into the running of the club. In FC United’s short history our members have already decided the name of the club, the club badge, to keep the playing shirt free of sponsorship and members have also elected the board members to run the club on their behalf.

As a member you have the opportunity to propose a resolution that will be put before a General Meeting of the club; this way not only can members vote on issues that are presented to them by their elected board, they can also actively drive the agenda of the club. If you are not a member of FC United you will not have a say in how the club is run; no other football club in the country affords its members such control over its direction. It is vital that every FC United supporter takes advantage of this privilege to ensure that the club is run in the manner best suiting its fans. Without membership you have no voice and no influence over the direction of the club, a club that belongs to us all.

EDIT: traffi, was willst du uns mitteilen?

Steve Torpey signs for Halifax Town

Steve Torpey has signed a professional contract with Halifax Town. No fee will be involved, however Halifax have agreed to FC United’s request for a 25% sell-on clause to be included in his contract.

The club would like to wish Steve all the best for the future and the disappointment in losing him is tempered by the pleasure we’ll get from seeing one of our players realise his ambition of playing full-time football.

The club would also like to thank Steve for the contribution he has made to FC United in our short history. From scoring the club’s first ever goal at Flixton, literally just over twelve months ago, to his wonder goal at Halifax on Tuesday night; Steve has been invaluable member of the team.

Manager Karl Marginson has also offered nothing but praise for Torpey. He said: “Steve was a pleasure to manage and a cracking lad to have in the dressing room. I’m gutted to lose him, but am also chuffed to bits that the lad has got his chance to play at a higher level.

“He has easily enough talent to play in the Conference and I reckon could play even higher. FC want to keep our best players, but it also goes to show that we are a shop window and that if you play for us, knuckle down and show your worth, that clubs higher up than us will come knocking.

And Margy added: “I’d also like to thank Halifax Town in particular Chris Wilder, who have done everything by the book and conducted themselves perfectly. Phil, Darren and I, would all like to wish Steve the very best for the future.”

The final word goes to Steve himself: “I’ve got genuine mixed emotions in all this. I’ve always dreamed of playing full-time football and Halifax have given me that chance.

“But on the other hand I know what I’m leaving behind; a cracking set of lads and amazing supporters. I can’t stress how much I’ve enjoyed the last year and it’s something I’ll never, ever forget.

“I can’t believe what has happened in the twelve months since that first ever goal at Flixton but it has been an amazing experience. I’d like to thank my team-mates, Karl, Phil and Darren for giving my chance at FC, but most of all the supporters who are the best around. I hope to see everyone again soon”

Cheers Torps.

Salford City - FC United Of Manchester 2:1

Begley 90, Robinson 92; Howard 80

:aaarrrggghhh:

FC United’s 100% record was blown apart as Salford City snatched a last gasp 2-1 victory with two late, late goals in an explosive encounter in front of 4,058 at The Willows.

It turned out to be unlucky 13 for United as Salford put an end to the Reds’ 12 game unbeaten run and stopped them achieving the best ever start to a North West Counties Division One season.

A wet night at The Willows saw both sides struggle to find their footing on a skiddy surface early on. David Chadwick and Robert Nugent were kept busy at the back and the home side were unlucky not to take the lead when Whitehead’s 30 yard screamer hit the bar with Sam Ashton beaten.

United’s first real opportunity came after 25 minutes. Chadwick found himself unmarked from a Josh Howard corner, but the captain’s header sailed slowly wide.

With half time approaching, Rory Patterson beat three men with extraordinary ease down the right wing before moving infield and into the box. He seemed sure to score before a vital goal line clearance from McNally saved Salford’s blushes.

Both sides fought hard in the second half and even banner waving pitch invaders couldn’t divert attention away from what was becoming a gripping battle.

After nearly 80 minutes of a tough tackling stalemate, Howard looked to have grabbed all three points for the Reds when he latched on to Sam Ashton’s free kick over the top before finishing calmly to make it 1-0.

But Salford had other ideas. With seconds left on the clock, City won a free kick roughly 25 yards out and substitute Nick Begley stepped up to curl it magnificently round the wall and into the right hand corner of Ashton’s goal.

A draw could well have been the fair result as both teams had fought well and had an equal amount of chances, but Salford threw men forwards for a late winner and there was a crushing inevitability that it would be the home side that would snatched it at the end.

Deep into injury time, a tired looking United switched off allowing Nick Robinson to wrestle his way on to a cross field ball three minutes into time added on before slipping it past Ashton to send Salford away happy.

Despite the uncharacteristic defeat, a bigger concern of the night could well be injuries to Nugent and Patterson, who both had to be substituted, ahead of the FA Vase First Round trip to Padiham. News on this will be released when it is available.

United on film

For a trial period only, our home games will be available to order on DVD with full match commentary from Roy Williamson and Sam Huddart. The first two releases are: FC United v Nelson 16 August (our first home game of the season where Rory bagged a hatrick in torrential conditions) and FC United v Nantwich 19 August (a keenly fought game with last season’s FA Vase Winners)

Both are available to order online and will soon be followed by DVDs for the games against Flixton and Congleton.

Login Rudd brace seals derby

Two goals from Stuart Rudd clinched another last gasp victory for FC United against a resolute Maine Road who were reduced to ten men in the first half during a fiery derby in front of 3,181 fans at Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold.

Rudd broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time, but Gareth Richards equalised for The Road less than ten minutes into the second half before Rudd popped up again to snatch a poacher’s goal after a scrappy goalmouth melee in the 81st minute.

With both sides playing in traditional United and City colours the game mirrored the fierce Manchester derbies of the past. It was the Reds who started the game the brighter of the two and could easily have taken the lead after just four minutes. A poor kick by Maine Road keeper Greg Hall fell to the feet of Rory Patterson, however, the young Irishman failed to capitalise.

United went onto dominate the first half with only one notable effort coming from Maine Road, in which Jerome Wright hit a 30 yard strike that went only inches over the bar of the helpless Sam Ashton.

It was the last five minutes of the first half that really edged the game into United’s favour. Firstly, Maine Roads Marc Clancy was shown red for a late tackle on Rhodri Giggs and it got worse for Maine Road minutes later when United took the lead deep into stoppage time. Maine Road keeper Hall couldn’t grab onto to Rudd’s header from 12 yards, which put Marginson’s men in the driving seat.

Early in the second half United nearly made the extra man count as a superb cross from the right found Giggs and with a free header, he could only head wide of the The Road’s goal.

Just before the hour mark United had a great opportunity to extend their lead when Oliver McGee’s clearance only find the feet of Simon Carden, however, when through on goal his shot failed to hit the target.

It was just a minute later that Maine Road made United pay for their woeful finishing. A break down the left with a cross from Jerome Wright found the path of Gareth Richards. Richards neatly tucked home from 12 yards to briefly silence the United fans.

Then came the onslaught from the United as they huffed and puffed to regain the lead. Patterson could easily have grabbed the winner after a good run and cut back by substitute Jamie Phoenix, but the usually potent Mr Mystery failed to hit the target.

The winner eventually came in the 81st minutes as the ball was scrambling around the Maine Road box only to be fired home in true predator fashion from Rudd for his second of the afternoon.

In the end it was another priceless victory for Margy’s men as they maintained their runaway lead at the top of North West Counties Division One.

Scorers: Rudd 45(+8 ), 81

Achja, falls jemand einen Eindruck bekommen will:

Hab mir das Video vom Auswärtsspiel bei Maine Road soeben angesehen. Echt geil was die FCUM-Verantwortlichen auf die Beine gestellt haben. Auch das Spiel dürfte gar nicht so schlecht gewesen sein. Vor allem die beiden Flügelspieler bei United könnten wohl auch locker in unserer Bundesliga kicken.
