Es ist ja schon immer in der PL nervig, wenn manche Vereine 2 Spiele weniger ausgetragen haben, aber in dieser Liga gibt's bis zu 11 (!) Spiele Unterschied!

Ich weiss es auch nicht genau, aber wenn man sich hier einwenig umsieht, entdeckt man sehr oft "Waterlogged Pitch".

After lifting the North West Counties Division One trophy on Saturday, FC United now travel to Tameside to take on Curzon Ashton on their own turf in the D-Zine League Challenge Cup Final on Thursday night in a bid to complete a magnificent league and cup double.

The Reds have completed their second successful league season with a second straight title, but now they have the opportunity to go one better than last year by walking away with the cup too as the two best teams in the North West Counties battle it out for the last remaining trophy.

Supporters should expect a closely fought game just as the two league contests have been between the two sides this season. FC United came away with six points with their closest rivals, but the games were by no means easy. Way back in September, the Reds beat the Nash 3-1 on Tameside with goals from Simon Carden and Stuart Rudd and they did so with ten men after William Ahern was sent off for a reckless challenge.

It was a much closer game at Gigg Lane in February. Goal machine Steven Moore twice took the lead for the visitors in an end-to-end battle, but substitute Gary Sampson scored a brace to get Margy’s men back in it and top scorer Rudd struck again to snatch all three points in a pulsating encounter.

Curzon will undoubtedly feel that they should have had a point or two to show from the league encounters and will be out to gain revenge and a trophy for themselves on Thursday night. However, FC United will be confident of putting another one of their neighbours and will obviously want to end the season on a high.

The Reds will have to do the job without the commanding presence of Rudd who will be serving the second game of his three match ban due to being sent off against Ramsbottom United at Easter. But Rhodri Giggs may well step into the void again and with four goals in three games, the Welshman will be confident of getting on the score sheet again if he’s given the opportunity.

United know all about the threat of Moore and his strike partner Michael Norton who have incredibly scored more than 100 goals between them in all competitions this season. Rob Nugent is likely to return to the side after being rested on Saturday to help captain David Chadwick with the tough task of keeping the pair quiet.
