Arsène Wenger could add another player to his squad later today.

The Arsenal manager signed Abou Diaby this morning and could complete a deal for Monaco striker Emmanuel Adebayor this afternoon.

The 21-year-old is currently at Monaco and is all set to start for Togo at the African Nations Cup. Wenger hopes to seal a deal before the player jets off to Egypt.

“We are looking at a striker called Adebayor,” said the manager at today’s press conference. “I think it could happen later today.

"He has qualities that we don’t have in the side. He is tall, good in the air and makes good runs. He is a bit of a Kanu type but he goes in more behind the defenders.

“There is good chance it will happen today. If something happens we will let you know.”

eine führungspersönlichkeit im MF vermisse ich (hier aus der spanischen ferne), aber im angriff wär man dann mit henry v.persie reyes und adebayor halbwegs fit.

Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor has signed for Arsenal from AS Monaco on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

Striker Adebayor (21), was the top scorer in the entire African Zone in the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers with 11 goals, helping Togo reach the World Cup Finals for the first time in the country's history.

Emmanuel has been a regular in the AS Monaco team over the past three seasons and was part of the squad which came runners-up in the 2004 UEFA Champions League. Before joining AS Monaco, Adebayor spent two seasons at French side Metz, where he made his first team debut for the club in Ligue 1 at the tender age of 17.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: "Emmanuel Adebayor is a great addition to our squad. He has shown in his performances with Monaco and Togo that he will add great quality to our offensive game. He is tall, good in the air and makes good runs. We are looking forward to him joining the squad when he returns from the African Nations Cup."

Emmanuel Adebayor said: "This is a great day for me. I am joining Arsenal, one of Europe's leading teams, with a squad containing so many great players. I am looking forward to working very hard for the team and I hope I can give the Arsenal fans a lot of enjoyment in the future."

Emmanuel is a member of the Togo squad for the forthcoming African Nations Cup in Egypt and will therefore join up with his new team mates after his participation in this competition. He will wear the Arsenal number 25 shirt.

song ist, wie du bestimmt weißt schon seit sommer bei uns und nur von bastia ausgeliehen, adebayor ist denk ich mal in eine klasse mit samaros, zigic und vennegoor of hesselink zu geben, würde ihm also das prädikat mehr als nur nutzvoll für uns zugestehen - von diaby hab ich bisher nur ein paar compilations gesehen welche ich aber sehr gut finde

Arsenal sign Walcott

Arsenal will this afternoon call a press conference to officially announce the signing of 16 year old wonderkid Theo Walcott, who put pen to paper last night. The highly-rated Southampton striker has been the subject of intense speculation regarding his future over the past few weeks and was widely tipped to join Arsenal during the transfer window. Southampton were desperate to hold onto their prize asset but it was Walcott's desire to continue his footballing education at Highbury under Arsené Wenger that left them little option to accept Arsenal's hefty bid. While Arsenal have not disclosed the fee, it is believed that the London club will pay an initial outlay of £4.75 million with a potential sum of just under £7 million dependant on clauses based around Walcott reaching his potential.

Arsenal supremo Arsené Wenger has openly expressed his appreciation of Walcott's ability, and was clearly delighted to have finally secured the services of the young Englishman after beating off strong competition from Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.

"He is a player we have admired for some time. He has many qualities and an attitude that I like and I believe he can become a big, big player for us."

Walcott has made no secret of his desire to play alongside his idol Thierry Henry, and has drawn many comparisons to the majestic Frenchman. "Well yes, they are both skilful, quick, very exciting players with an eye for goal," Wenger acknowledged. "He is a great talent." Walcott has been unavailable for comment but his agent has been quoted as saying that it is a dream come true for the youngster to be joining the Gunners, and that he hopes he can learn a lot from Thierry Henry.

Walcott himself is expected to join the rest of the Arsenal squad for training towards the end of the week and will train with the senior squad, where he can learn from Henry and the rest. Wenger remained coy regarding whether he would play for the Arsenal first team, reserves or be loaned out for the rest of the season, saying that they would decide that in the coming weeks. However he did admit that "certainly (Walcott) will be involved sooner rather than later."

Meanwhile, midfielder Gilberto Silva has spoken about the impact of new signing Abou Diaby in training at Arsenal's London Colney facility. "He is very enthusiastic and has a lot of power and technique. I have heard him compared to Patrick (Vieira) but to me he seems more like Kolo (Toure) and Henry together. But maybe a bit more like me than Henry, when near the goal." He laughed.

13:56 haben die Sky Sports News den Transfer offiziell bestätigt, somit Theo um 5 + 7,5 millionen Pfund ein Arsenal Spieler geworden, was ich davon halten soll weiß ich noch nicht - hege aber die Vermutung das das ganze eine reine Merchandising Verpflichtung war, kein L'arsenal mehr nachdem man nun everybodys darling sein eigen nennt, hoffe nur das wir mit ihm nicht dermaßen auf die fresse fliegen wie mit franny jeffers und jermaine pennant

Theo Walcott (16) has today signed for Arsenal from Championship side Southampton for an initial fee of £5 million which could rise to a maximum of £12 million.

The highly rated youngster has initially joined the Club as a scholar and will turn professional on his 17th birthday on March 16th 2006.

England Youth International Walcott, became the youngest player ever to represent the Southampton first team, coming on as a substitute in the first league match of this season against Wolves, aged just 16 years and 143 days.

Theo, who can play either as a forward or an attacking midfielder, made 13 appearances (scoring five goals) for Southampton this season and also broke into the England under-17 squad one year above his age group, scoring five goals from nine appearances in the 2004/05 season.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: “Theo Walcott is a very young player, but has already shown in his performances for Southampton that he is a talented player with huge potential. I also like the fact that he is a versatile player who is incredibly dedicated, shows great determination to succeed and is blessed with electric pace. We are delighted Theo has signed for the Club and will make a fantastic addition to our squad.”

Theo Walcott said: “I’m so pleased to be joining Arsenal, a club I have admired for a long time. Coming to Arsenal will give me the opportunity to work with world class players every day and play football at the highest possible level. It’s a strange day, because I’m also very sad to be moving from Southampton. I’m leaving many friends and some great coaches who have been so important to my career so far, but I leave with many great memories from the club. I’m now really looking forward to meeting my new team mates and working hard as an Arsenal player.”

Walcott is yet to play in the Premiership, but was involved in two FA Youth Cup ties against Arsenal in recent seasons. He was on the bench as a 14 year-old when the two teams met in January 2004, and scored the only goal when the teams met in Southampton in February last season.

Theo will immediately join up with his new team mates and will wear the Arsenal number 32 shirt this season.
