Real Madrid To Metzelder: "Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You"

According to reports in the early editions of today’s Madrid-based press, Spanish giants Real Madrid have asked German centre-back Christoph Metzelder to wait for their call before making any public declarations about his possible signing for the Merengues.

Real Madrid To Metzelder: "Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You"

The Borussia Dortmund man’s contract expires at the end of the season and he’s therefore seen as a bargain ready to be snapped up. Although Juventus were rumoured to be interested in signing him, the player underwent medical exams in Madrid last week.

The sudden decision to remind the player to keep quiet has piqued suspicion in Spain, some saying that the Merengues want further tests to avoid buying a player on the verge of a serious injury – as per Woodgate – and others claim that he’ll be used in some sort of swap deal.

The same sources allege that an ‘important English team’ is interested in the player, said reports being published side by side with claims that Cristiano Ronaldo will land in Madrid this summer.

The grapevine is starting to rustle with rumours that Madrid are looking for ways to bring the astronomical-sized signing of the Portuguese star down to a less ‘Galactic’ level and some pundits claim that some Real Madrid players will be offered to cheapen the deal. Others rubbish that idea and claim that there is a lot of internal tension when it comes to signing backs.

The Madrid defense has suffered continual problems since the retirements/transfers of Hierro and Manolo Sanchis. Samuel, Woodgate and now Cannavaro were brought in as Cinderella solutions, but all turned into pumpkins at the Bernabéu. Once bitten twice shy...or just a smokescreen to protect the signing from the prying and panicky Madrid press?

:D

Dann BITTE BITTE Capello!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deal! :D

Pressekonferenz mit Diarra:

"We will be gladiators on Sunday because we are sure we can win the League"

Mahamadou Diarra has adapted completely to the Spanish lifestyle and football only seven months after his arrival. The Mali midfielder knows that the League will be completely different from now on and that every fixture on the calendar is crucial on the road to the title. Diarra was sure the team would fight hard for the League.

Does the squad have a plan for winning the League?

The League is our main goal now. It is the only title we can win this season. Against Barcelona we showcased great team spirit. We are all our own people, but we put aside our individuality in favour of teamwork, concentrating and putting up a real fight.

Do you think we will see the same spirit in the games at the Bernabéu?

We have dropped many points at home and we must analyse what went wrong. We have to be aware of the importance of home games and we are trying to solve the problems we have whenever we play at the Bernabéu. We have to win every point at stake in Madrid and hold onto the possibility of winning the League. We must react now because there isn't much time left.

The Camp Nou match was one of the best this season.

Yes, it was. We trained very hard before the match against Bayern Munich and it showed when we played against them in Germany, although we were finally eliminated from the competition. It was obvious things were going to change and this was obvious in the Barcelona game. We dominated because we were all very anxious to play that match. We played top football against a great team and I hope we play with the same spirit in forthcoming clashes.

How is Emerson?

Emerson is a true professional, like the rest, and he loves the team. All the players have a great relationship with him. We are 24 men on the squad and we must all do our best to work for the team.

Do you talk to Capello about the lineups?

No, only the captains do that (explanation for Rauls starting spot.. ). Capello is a very experienced coach and I have lots of respect for him. He knows what he's doing and he knows the team has winning chances. Nevertheless, things are simple for us because we know what we have to do. We want to win the League.

Is Guti essential to the team?

It's very easy to play with Guti because he is very technical, he has great vision and he runs a lot, but every player has a mission on this team. Guti and I play well together because I'm not able to pass the ball like him and he doesn't intercept as many balls as I do. He needs the team and the team needs him.

A month ago you said you weren't in perfect shape. How do you feel now?

I'm much better now because the team has also improved. I do well when the team is in good shape.

Do we still have things to learn about you?

I have a five year contract and I'm not going to be in the same shape these next five years. I want to show what I'm capable of at Real Madrid. I am on a team that hasn't won anything in three years and that complicates things. I want to stay here because I am adapting very well to the Spanish lifestyle and I want to see my contract through. I want to be the player I was at Olympique Lyonnais.

How do you feel about UEFA punishing Van Bommel at this stage?

I know Van Bommel very well because I have played him several times. We were both sent off in the same game in the Netherlands and we were both booked again when I was at Lyon. Against Bayern, it was a little more of the same. Something always happens when we play each other. He's like that, you know? Maybe he likes provoking players to get them sent off. I felt humiliated with his insults to the crowd at the Bernabéu. He has no respect for others.
