Zanetti back in 2007

Juventus are set to be without Cristiano Zanetti for six weeks after he injured his thigh in Saturday’s match at Albinoleffe.

The former Inter man limped off during the 1-1 draw after damaging the flexor muscle in his right thigh and will undergo scans on Tuesday, which will assess the exact extent of the injury.

After a preliminary examination, the Bianconeri medical staff are convinced that there is no muscular tear but only a strain.

Nevertheless, Zanetti is set to be sidelined for at least a month and a half and will not be back in action until the New Year.

The 29-year-old ex-Roma and Cagliari player is just the latest star to check into the Bianconeri treatment room.

Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Marcelo Zalayeta are all currently unavailable, while Nicola Legrottaglie will also be out until 2007 following shoulder surgery.

However, there is some good news for boss Didier Deschamps ahead of Saturday’s home game with Lecce.

Midfielders Giuliano Giannichedda and Marco Marchionni, plus defender Robert Kovac, are nearing full fitness and should be available for the weekend.

“Per fortuna sono guarito; mi sono allenato con la squadra e non ho avvertito dolore al ginocchio. Penso di lavorare tutta la settimana con il gruppo, per essere a disposizione sabato”. Giuliano Giannichedda è visibilmente sollevato: il problema al ginocchio è acqua passata e già contro il Lecce il centrocampista dovrebbe poter rientrare nei ranghi. Una buona notizia, specie dopo i tanti infortuni che nelle ultime settimane hanno colpito gli uomini di Deschamps: “E’ vero, sono molti, ma si tratta di una casualità, anche perché si tratta di problemi diversi l’uno dall’altro. Il fatto è che anche in allenamento si dà il 100% e può capitare, in un contrasto, di mettere male il piede”.

Il recupero di Giuliano coincide con lo stop del compagno di reparto Zanetti, ma i bianconeri possono dormire sonni tranquilli, viste le ottime prestazioni fornite finora da Paro e Marchisio: “Mi fa molto piacere, perché si tratta di due giovani, per di più italiani; solitamente si guarda più all’estero, mentre in realtà la nostra scuola è ottima e fa molto bene la Juventus a puntare sui nostri ragazzi. Nessuno dei due per noi è una novità: Paro ha già giocato sia in B che in A, mentre Marchisio lo avevamo scoperto lo scorso anno, quando già si allenava con noi”.

La sconfitta del Piacenza contro il Mantova nel posticipo di lunedì sera, permette ai bianconeri di presentarsi alla sfida con il Lecce con un solo punto da recuperare sugli emiliani e sul Napoli, primi in classifica: “Ho visto la partita del Piacenza che ha confermato la difficoltà di questo campionato; è un torneo equilibrato, con una classifica cortissima. Basti guardare al Napoli: fino a poco fa per molti non stava facendo una buona stagione e ora è primo in classifica. La realtà è che bastano una o due partite storte per cambiare la situazione”. Lo stesso discorso vale per il Lecce: “Ora non sta andando benissimo, ma questo non significa nulla, perché è una squadra che ha il potenziale per arrivare in alto e perchè contro la Juve tutti danno il 200% e corrono moltissimo. Loro sono temibili in avanti e dovremo essere bravi a non concedere occasioni”.

Giuliano: ready and raring to go

Giuliano Giannichedda has recovered from the knee injury which sidelined him for the last few weeks and is ready for action. “Luckily I’m back. I trained with the team today, it went well and I had no problems with the knee. It’s now a case of working hard this week to be ready and available for the game on Saturday”. The journalists speculated whether the long list of injuries is merely a coincidence. “I don’t think there’s any specific problem. Me and Zala have had similar trouble with our knees but all the others have different injuries. It’s a coincidence, no one’s at fault here. We all give 100% in training and if you have the misfortune to put a foot wrong, sometimes you get injured”.

Giuliano is looking forward to returning to the fray in what is turning out to be a close-run contest. “It’s a balanced championship and things are tight in the top half. Every game is difficult and fortunes can change in just two or three games. Just look at Napoli who seemed out of it a few weeks back but are now top of the table”. With the unearthing of two young gems in midfield, he injury to Zanetti by no means guarantees a starting place for the seasoned campaigner. “I’m happy to see the young guys doing so well, especially as they’re home grown. They’re fantastic players and I think Juventus are doing well to give chances like this to youngsters. Paro is a quality player with top flight experience and Marchisio is someone we were already talking about last season”.

If he does play on Saturday, Guiliano knows the Bianconeri are in for a real test. “Lecce have had a few good results recently, even if they’re not doing so well in the standings. Everyone gives 100% against Juventus and we can expect a lot of running from them. It’s going to be a difficult game and we have to make sure we don’t concede. If we get that right the chances will come to us”. And is he worried about the injuries to the offensive department? “We go out there to win every game and even if Alex and David are injured we have other great players in Bojinov and Palladino. Let’s not forget they also have Mauro and Pavel behind them, both of whom can influence the outcome of any game”.

Bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass er gegen Lecce aufgeboten wird, obwohl ich auf Paro neben Marchisio neugierig gewesen wäre...

Super-Leistung von Bojinov. Unterhaltsame Partie, auch wenn das 4:1 aus der Sicht Lecces zu hoch ausgefallen ist. Besonderes Highlight für mich: Das erste Serie B-Tor für Paolo De Ceglie. Passt überhaupt zur guten Leistung der jungen Spieler: Das war der geringste Altersschnitt einer Juve-Mannschaft seit ich denken kann.

Auch wenn ich mit der Verpflichtung von DD nicht wirklich zufrieden war, hat er sich wohl als der richtige Mann für diese Situation erwiesen.

Sehr spannendes Spiel, der Schiedsrichter (Farina ) aber eine echte Gemeinheit... MMn zu unrecht Elfer nach Biris Zupfer, dann Super-Saves von Buffon und eine echte "Krätzn"-Partie, wo sich keiner was schenkt.

Glückliche Führung durch Nedved (der Ball wurde abgefälscht), nur 3 Minuten später der Ausgleich von Genoa. Danach drückt das Heimteam, Boum rettet einmal nach Adailtons (?) Corner auf der Linie... In der 92. sieht Nedved Rot, ein paar Infight-Szenen inklusive.

Wie schon beim 1:1 bei Napoli: Ich bin zufrieden. Eine Menge Stammkräfte waren vorzugeben und die Schiedsrichterentscheidungen ein grober Nachteil...

Bestern Juve-Spieler war Buffon, der sich in absoluter Topform präsentiert. Auch Nedved war eine absolute Stütze, seine Rote in der Schlussphase natürlich entbehrlich.

Fazit: Sehr lässiges Spiel gegen einen Erzrivalen, der spielerisch Vorteile hatte und sich kämpferisch und bissig präsentierte. Verdientes X, mit dem wir auch zufrieden sein können. Farina sollte in nächster Zeit allerdings keine Spitzenspiele mehr bekommen. Fast schon unheimlich, was er aufführt.

Five-match ban for Nedved

Juventus’ promotion bid has been rocked by a five-match ban handed to star midfielder Pavel Nedved.

The former Czech international was handed the severe punishment after he was sent-off in injury time of Friday’s 1-1 draw with Genoa following his stamp on Francesco Bega.

“Nedved, in the 47th minute of the second half, voluntarily trod on his opponent’s ankle,” read an official note from the disciplinary commission.

“And after being consequently sent off by the referee, offended him and stamped on his foot, with no damaging consequences.”

The Old Lady of Italian football, already dealing with an injury crisis, are expected to appeal against the sentence.

Meanwhile, Napoli have received a one-match home ban plus a fine following the problems encountered on Saturday during the home game with Frosinone.

The Partenopei supporters threw flares and fireworks into the stands and on to the pitch, causing the game to be suspended on two occasions.

The Azzurri, top of the Second Division, will now be forced to play the next match at the San Paolo Stadium with Mantova behind closed doors.

Turning to the Serie A suspensions, 11 players have been given one-match stops after the Week 14 ties.
