Drei Channel4-Artikel zum Thema Derby d'Italia:

Nedved plots Inter revenge Friday 30 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pavel Nedved believes it’s about time that Juventus finally beat Inter after suffering defeats in their last two encounters.

The top two meet at the Stadio Delle Alpi on Sunday and the Czech ace hasn’t forgotten the recent losses to the Nerazzurri.

Although the Old Lady have won all seven of their games so far, the reverse in the Italian Super Cup and in April – the last occasion they tasted defeat in Serie A – still haunts the midfielder.

"We were the better side in both of those game, but in the end they came away with the victories," he stated.

"Let’s hope that it ends differently this time around. An early goal would certainly help make the game more entertaining."

Inter are looking good so far this season and Nerazzurri fans are hopeful that they can challenge the Bianconeri.

But Nedved has looked to calm their enthusiasm, insisting that they have proved nothing yet.

"Apart from winning the Super Cup, Inter need to win something else to demonstrate that they are better than us," he noted.

However, Nedved has conceded that Inter are on the right path to glory thanks to the presence of his former Lazio colleague Roberto Mancini.

"I’ll meet Mancini with pleasure at the weekend," he continued. "I knew that he would one day become a Coach.

"After all, he was already in charge on the pitch as a player. He’s not an easy man to get along with, but people like that are often winners."

Moratti unleashes Adri on Juve Friday 30 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter owner Massimo Moratti maintains Adriano can decide the Derby d’Italia and that Sunday’s clash is worth more than three points.

“Both teams are coming into this game on fine form,” said the former club President. “I expect we’ll see some great football from both Inter and Juventus with a fantastic match. If stress or tension doesn’t become a major factor, then I’m sure it will be.”

The Nerazzurri have won their last three trips to the Stadio Delle Alpi between Serie A and the Italian Supercup, so confidence is at an all-time high.

“I think the midfield will be a crucial sector of this encounter, as they have different styles, but are both very intriguing,” continued Moratti. “I think the game will be decided by midfield roles. Mind you, it may be banal to point it out, but I see Adriano making the difference.”

The Brazilian has been on disappointing form over the last few weeks, but Juventus are his favourite target in Italy, as he has already put six goals past them.

A victory would allow the Nerazzurri to catch Juve at the top of the table and open up the Scudetto race, but Moratti sees more to it than that.

“This tie will not be decisive for the Serie A title, but the confidence and security it can give us is worth much more than a mere three points.”

Meanwhile, the chances of David Pizarro starting in the centre are growing with his winning goal against Rangers midweek and the news that Juan Sebastian Veron is suffering from flu symptoms.

Capello confident of Inter clash Saturday 1 October, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Capello says he has “positive vibes” about Sunday’s Derby d’Italia and has cleared the air with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“I have positive vibes about the match, as confidence is high following our recent victories,” noted the Juventus Coach. “Our qualities will face off against Inter’s and it has the spirit of a decisive game, even if it’s only Week 6 and there is plenty of time to make up lost ground.”

Inter have won on their last two Serie A trips here – plus a victory in August’s Italian Super Cup – but the Bianconeri are coming into this meeting off the back of seven consecutive wins between domestic and Champions League competition.

“This will be a completely different game to the Super Cup. Inter are one of our rivals for the Scudetto and I hope it’ll be a tough but sportsmanlike match. With these strike forces, I expect the defences will have to be very careful. We’ll try to find their weak point.”

Both sides have minor injury worries, as although Lilian Thuram has a muscular problem and Juan Sebastian Veron is suffering from flu symptoms, both players are in their respective squads. Jonathan Zebina and Sinisa Mihajlovic are out.

“The result of this game will be above all important psychologically,” added Capello. “You don’t need to motivate players for such a big fixture, so if anything my job now is to calm the tension.”

There was tension of another kind following the midweek Champions League win over Rapid Vienna, as Capello’s post-match comments were highly critical of “egotistical” Ibrahimovic.

“I have spoken to Ibra and there is no problem at all with him,” assured the tactician. Ibrahimovic should be able to start despite skipping training for two days with a bruised foot, which means Alessandro Del Piero will miss his first Serie A Derby d’Italia start since 1994 ( ).

Meanwhile, midfielder Ruben Olivera has been sidelined for at least three weeks by a left thigh strain suffered during training.

Veron indisponibile per la Juve

02 10 2005

Juan Sebastian Veron non sarà questa sera a disposizione di Roberto Mancini per il posticipo di campionato contro la Juventus, a causa del riacutizzarsi dello stato influenzale che lo aveva colpito nei giorni scorsi.

Veron ruled out of Turin tie

Sunday 2 October, 2005

Juan Sebastian Veron will not be able to play tonight’s big match against Juventus due to a flu virus, confirmed the official Inter website.

The Argentine has been suffering from the illness over the last few days and Coach Roberto Mancini claimed his temperature was dropping.

However, Veron’s condition worsened overnight and he has been ruled out of the top of the table showdown at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

This opens the door for ex-Udinese midfielder David Pizarro to start in the centre after scoring his first Nerazzurri goal in the 1-0 Champions League win over Glasgow Rangers midweek.

Pizarro was very close to completing a transfer to Juventus before he opted for Inter in the summer.
