Absoluter Blödsinn! Niemand hat die Gunners gezwungen, im FA-Cup ins Halbfinale und in der CL bis ins Viertelfinale zu kommen! Sonst hätten sie nämlich ca. 12 Tage Pause gehabt! Ausserdem muss fast jeder Verein am Osterwochenende 2 mal in 48 Stunden antreten! Auf der Insel gibts da kein meckern!

Arsenal muss im Meisterschaftsspiel gegen Leeds United auf Ashley Cole und Freddy Ljungberg verzichten.

Cole laboriert an einer Knöchelverletzung, und Ljungberg musste sich einer Operation an seiner Hand unterziehen.

Dafür könnte Ray Parlour nach Verletzungspause gegen Leeds wieder auf dem Platze stehen.

Leeds fügte Arsenal übrigens die letzte Niederlage in der Premier League zu.

We want Pennant back, says Wenger

Jermaine Pennant will be sporting the colours of Leeds tonight, but Arsène Wenger believes the 21-year-old's future lies in the red and white of Arsenal.

Pennant has spent the season stockpiling top-flight experience at Elland Road, and Wenger hopes Arsenal will benefit from that in years to come.

The Arsenal manager has kept a close eye on Pennant's progress and is happy with what he has seen and heard of the England Under-21 winger.

"In my opinion he has done really well, especially recently," said Wenger. "All the reports I have got back have been really good.

"He should be back next year and we want him if he accepts he must fight for his position."

Pennant has been one of Leeds' most consistent performers this season, playing 31 games for the Yorkshire club and filling the void left by the departure of Harry Kewell last summer.

Wenger would not be surprised if Pennant turns on the style at Highbury tonight but he has no qualms about the winger lining up against Arsenal.

"I don't have any concerns about him playing against us," said Wenger. "We are happy to get Jermaine experience in the Premiership but we have to accept that he can play against us too."

Head to head: Pires vs Pennant

It's not beyond the realms to fantasy to envisage Robert Pires and Jermaine Pennant starting next season in the same Arsenal line-up.

But tonight they go head to head as the Gunners meet Leeds United at Highbury. Both men have enjoyed productive seasons, but they have very different objectives as the campaign reaches the home straight.

Pennant has been one of Leeds' most consistent performers during his loan spell at Elland Road, and he will be battling for points to aid the Yorkshire club's scrap for Premiership survival.

In contrast, Pires will be striving to help Arsenal extend their record unbeaten start to the season to 33 games and take the Gunners one step closer to the title.

The statistics underline the fact that Pires has been plying his trade in a successful side while Pennant has been grafting for a team haunted by relegation.

The Arsenal man has 12 Premiership goals to his name this season. Pennant has just the one, albeit a cracker against Chelsea.

Pires has fired in 47 shots to Pennant's 18 and has eight assists to Pennant's six. However, that final figure shows how important the young winger has been to a Leeds side shorn of Harry Kewell last summer.

Pires and Pennant are key figures for their respective teams when Arsenal and Leeds go forward. The French star regularly dissects defences with his perceptive passing while Pennant has pace and trickery in abundance.

That is shown by the dribbling statistics. Pennant has attempted 68, with 33 successful, and 162 crosses. Pires has attempted 42 dribbles and just 35 crosses, emphasising his preference to cut inside rather than get to the byline.

As you'd expect for a player in a team often on the back foot, Pennant has also made more tackles - 77 to Pires' 55. However, the fact that the Frenchman matches Pennant for clearances and interceptions shows his willingness to track back and help his full-back.

In goal is someone I played with, Jack Kelsey. He used to run the Arsenal club shop but was a great Welsh international keeper. He commanded his area, was fearless and as a defender you knew exactly where you were with Jack. My full-backs are George Male and Eddie Hapgood, two England internationals and marvellous players. At centre-half Ray Daniel came to mind - they don't come much classier than him - but Sol Campbell is my choice. He looks so confident and sure of himself and commands the middle.

Joe Mercer is a must, a brilliant player and inspiring captain, and it was me who broke his leg and ended his career. We both went for the same ball; I went to the Royal Northern Hospital to see him the next day and when I learned his career was finished I cried my eyes out. At No9 another of this season's team, Thierry Henry. He's brilliant but he's not a natural header of the ball and some traditionalists will see that as a serious flaw.

I'd like to think this isn't a bad side - and that's without the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and Charlie George, who could maybe come off the bench in the second half.

I trained with Pat Jennings when I was starting at the club. He was an imposing person in goal, commanding in a quiet sort of way. People will look at my defence and wonder why Steve Bould is there instead of maybe Tony Adams, but he did a lot of good stuff which went unnoticed. You only notice a lot of what Steve does when you play with him and he was just as efficient as Tony.

Liam Brady's the best player I ever played with - he could beat players, hit passes short or long and score goals. On the right, George Armstrong just sums up everything that Arsenal was and is about, a combination of talent, energy and the desire to win.

I couldn't really pick Cliff Bastin without ever seeing him, but my front two speak for themselves. They would just be unstoppable.

Choosing this team was not an easy task - I'm still close to a lot of guys from my era and you never want to be disrespectful. But you want to pick a team that is going to be really strong throughout and I found the centre of this side was relatively straightforward to choose: Jennings, Adams, Vieira, Henry.

How do you leave out Ian Wright? The man is a legend at Highbury, but that is the role of a football manager. He'll do well coming from the bench, along with Frank Stapleton, Malcolm McDonald and Sol Campbell.

The thing is, you've got to get the balance right - it is no good just sticking lots of goalscorers on. And neither could I go back too far in time: it might have been nice to pick the likes of Cliff Bastin and Ted Drake but even I'm not old enough for that.

I've gone for Bergkamp because he contributes so much to Henry's game. I sometimes think he's got a computer for a head, the speed at which he works the game out.

I had to put Seaman in goal rather than Pat Jennings because of the number of trophies he won. David won nine major honours and was runner-up in seven more; Pat was my boyhood hero but he only won one major medal and not a single championship.

The defence was all about picking the best players. A lot of people will go for Frank McLintock, because he was the Double-winning captain, but while he was a great captain he was not the greatest centre-half. I think Tony Adams was his equal as a captain but a better player. Left-back was harder to decide: Bob McNab was probably the better defender but Kenny Sansom could come forward so well.

Ian Wright very nearly missed out - Dennis Bergkamp is one of my favourite ever players and Thierry Henry is pretty much the complete forward, and both had to be in. But in the end I tweaked the formation so they could all play. The rest of the midfield picked itself.

thierry henry wurde zum spieler des jahres in der premiere league gewählt. zweiter in dieser wahl wurde patrick vieira.

so nebenbei ist henry seit seinem quattropack dritterfolgreichster torschütze für arsenal. er hält nun bei 150 toren in 251 spielen für arsenal

ich finde es super, dass man martin keown eingetauscht hat, der hat nämlich jetzt mit dem kurzeinsatz 7 spiele gemacht, anspruch auf eine meistermedaille hat man aber nur ab 10 einsätzen, wenn arsene wenger ihn jedes spiel einwechselt, kommt er noch auf die 10 spiele. ich finde, das hätte er sich verdient. ähnlich ist es bei aliadiere, der jetzt bei 8 einsätzen hält und kanu, der hat erst 9 einsätze in dieser saison. kann mir durchaus vorstellen, dass man es den drei spielern ermöglicht, ebenfalls auf mindestens 10 spiele zu kommen.

jetzt sind es nur mehr drei spiele, um das unmögliche möglich zu machen

arsene wenger zieht das anscheinend durch mit den einwechslungen, und die ganze saison ungeschlagen sein, will er anscheinend auch durchziehen, spielt er doch mit der annähernd stärksten aufstellung. savio hat nämlich befürchtet, dass arsene wenger junge spieler einsetzt, wenn man die meisterschaft fixiert hat, und dass man somit mal ein spiel verliert. diese zwei spiele werden wir auch noch rüberbringen, ich glaube, dass das ein rekord für die ewigkeit wäre.

Genau vor einem Jahr (4. Mai 2003) hat Arsenal das letzte Meisterschaftsspiel verloren: 2:3 zu Hause gegen Leeds.
