Der erste Gruppenplatz bringt doch nur das Heimrecht im Rückspiel. Es ist also kein allzu großer Vorteil, den man hier zugesprochen bekommt.

Als Gruppenerster spielt man gegen einen der Gruppenzweiten oder den 4 schlechteren Gruppendritten der CL. Also ist der Gruppensieg doch ein ziemlich grosser Vorteil. Natürlich kann man auch Pech haben und zb. ManCity zugelost bekommen.

Die zwei Punkte für einen Sieg bei der 5 Jahreswertung sind auch nicht zu unterschätzen um die Setzung auf lange Sicht nicht zu gefährden.

Ich freue mich schon sehr auf das Spiel heute Abend. Ein internationales Bewerbsspiel, das man völlig entspannt genießen kann, gibt es nicht so oft. Da selbst eine Niederlage völlig bedeutungs- und folgenlos wäre, denke ich, dass auch unsere Mannschaft entsprechend drucklos in das Spiel geht. Punkte für die 5JW sind natürlich vollkommen unwichtig, genauso wie ein Gruppensieg oder ein damit verbundener (wahrscheinlich) einfacherer Gegner im 16tel-Finale... wer braucht sowas schon?!

Übrigens wäre es trotzdem ganz schön, wenn man im Celtic Park schön spielen und evtl. auch gewinnen könnte, schließlich sind es genau solche Spiele, auf die zumindest ich mich immer freue, wenn wir international spielen.

Und eine Niederlage ist sowieso nie "völlig bedeutungs- und folgenlos"... auch in einem Testspiel nicht. Wozu spielt man sonst überhaupt?!

Nur kann ich mich schon garnicht mehr wirklich erinnern wann Rapid das letzte mal im Frühjahr des Folgejahres noch international dabei war. Muss 1996 gewesen sein ... also vor fast 20 Jahren.

Hab' gerade etwas Zeit im Büro und auf talkceltic.net geschaut, was die so schreiben. Nachstehend ein paar der für mich interessantesten Posts.

They hammered Ajax home and away last year. They just hammered Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. You can't guarantee any such thing.

Hopefully we can still beat them but make no mistake: these are very dangerous!

I think, despite them being a good side, people are vastly over rating Salzburg. Not sure if it's because they are a bit of a suprise package but I haven't seen this level of concern about a side coming to Parkhead in a good while. Even Barcelona a large chunk of the fans, myself included, sensed we were going to take something off them.

I'm hoping for a might atmosphere that will inspire the bhoys to a great performance which is all we can really ask for. Salzburg are probably a team who'd finish 3rd and would be challenging for 2nd in a Champions League group and we can see how good they are in a Europa League group this year. But I think we're not too far off them in terms of quality and sure if we can draw with them at their place then there's no reason why we can't beat them at ours!

Aye, I'm just being half serious. Should have been pretty obvious when I said we should be taking six off them.

While Salzburg are a good side I do feel some people are getting a bit carried away with them, when it comes to Europe they're a bit hit and miss. They've also lost four games in the Austrian League this season so we shouldn't be seeing them as some sort of formidable force we're coming up against.

Give them the respect they deserve as they are a good side, but I wouldn't say we're miles apart from each other in terms of quality. They are capable of taking a few off most teams because of the way they play, but as you've seen with some of their European results, they are more than beatable.

Our last 16 team under NL would have beat them, but we've regressed since then. Even though we've regressed, we still managed a draw against them in Austria with our current team so why shouldn't we be confident of beating them at home.

My biggest worry is us rather than them, our two home group games have been less than impressive even though we got the wins. We'll have to improve on those performances because while I think people are overrating Salzburg, they are a step up from the other two teams in the group and I doubt they'll let us off the hook the way Dinamo Zagreb and Astra did.

They are better in the forward areas for me. Although we have Guidetti(who isn't playing anyway) Alan and Soriano score goals for fun, even if the Austrian league is pish they would still do it in other similar leagues in Europe. Soriano's record in the Europa league itself is unreal. Kevin Kampl is an excellent player as well, someone we are crying out for.

The way they play is better at this stage as well, Deila has said before the way they press and move the ball is how he wants us to play in a year or so. We are slowly getting there.

They are very much beatable though, obviously. They were a better side under their previous manager who really transformed their style. This new guy hasn't got them playing as well I dont think. I'm sure the Salzburg fan on here would back that opinion up..

Over the past few seasons, they have been knocked out of Europe completely by F91 Dudelange, reached the last 16 of Europa, and are now top of this year's group as things stand. In that time, we have reached the last 16 of Europe's elite competition, qualified again for the Group Stages before being knocked out, and now we can move above Salzburg with a win on Thursday. I would rather have our record in Europe over theirs in the past few seasons if I'm honest.

I watched both their games against Ajax and would say they were fair results.

Salzburg just has great pace and countered them for fun and the goals were fair and square even the one from about 50 yards. But Ajax played into their hands, Ajax didnt have much pace and tried to play possession football and Salzburg were just easily cutting through them when they won the ball.

We dont play as open as Ajax or keep the ball as high up the park as them, if anything Salzburg will have more possession than us so it won't be the same.

Overall id say us, Salzburg and Ajax are all decent teams of a similar level. We the better defensively, Ajax the better in possession and Salzburg the best attack, us the strongest physically, Ajax the weakest and Salzburg the middle, Salzburg the quickest, Ajax the slowest and us in the middle, Ajax the most technical, Salzburg the middle and us the least.

Das stimmt. Dass sich wienfreundliche Medien im Falle einer Niederlage wieder völlig realitätsfremd das Maul zerreißen würden wäre nervig.

Übrigens wäre es trotzdem ganz schön, wenn man im Celtic Park schön spielen und evtl. auch gewinnen könnte, schließlich sind es genau solche Spiele, auf die zumindest ich mich immer freue, wenn wir international spielen.

Natürlich. Und glaubst du, dass das eher in entspannter Verfassung gelingt, oder wenn die Mannschaft total unter Druck stehend nach Glasgow reist?
