Metzelder: Wir haben einen großen Mitarbeiterstab, ein eigenes Flugzeug – und wir haben sogar ein Buch bekommen mit dem Kodex von Real Madrid.

WELT ONLINE: Was steht da drin?

Metzelder: Was der Verein von seinen Spielern erwartet. Zum Beispiel Fairness auf dem Platz. Es wird dort nicht gern gesehen, dass man einen Spieler umtritt oder den Schiedsrichter beleidigt. Das sind alles Dinge, wo man sagt: Wir sind Real Madrid, wir sind der größte Verein der Welt, das schickt sich nicht für uns. Jedem wird schon sehr klar vermittelt, dass man etwas Besonderes ist.

100 Days in White

Bernd Schuster joined Real Madrid as its coach on 9 July, taking the reins of a united team that is currently leader in the League. The German coach decided to use an offensive style for his team. hoping to thrill the fans. Schuster’s first 100 days as Real Madrid’s coach have been simply outstanding.

Bernd Schuster became Real Madrid’s coach exactly 100 days ago, on 9 July 2007. Alfredo Di Stéfano wished him luck on his arrival, to which the German replied, “Don Alfredo, I was taught at this Club that one has to look for luck.” This reply was a good example of Schuster’s winning spirit, which he showcased during his two seasons as player at Real Madrid (1988-90).

Bernd Schuster will always be a player at heart and he sometimes can’t resist joining his men during training, playing piggy-in-the-middle with them or taking part in practice games. He knows just how important it really is for a player to be familiar with the ball. During his first official press conference, the coach expressed his wish to be successful at the Club and assured the fans things were going to turn out well. His mission is to win and to thrill the Club’s supporters with the team’s style.

Undefeated

Real Madrid have been leaders in the League since Matchday 1, being also the competition’s top scoring side (16 strikes) and the one to have conceded the least number of goals (3). They’ve had their best start in two decades, winning six games, drawing only one, and taking 19 out of a possible 21 points. Schuster hasn’t been defeated yet in the League and his team’s games against Atletico Madrid and Villarreal proved that, above anything else, the most important thing on this year’s Real Madrid is teamwork.

From the pitch to the bench

Bernd Schuster started his career as coach the same year he retired as a player, taking coaching duties at Fortuna Cologne. The following season (1999/98) he became the coach of Cologne. When the Bundesliga came to an end that year, he took the reins of Xerez and came close to promoting the team to the First Division. In 2003, he joined Ukranian side Shahtar Donetsk and a year later he became the boss of Levante, from which he was dismissed before the end of the 2004/05 season. Bernd Schuster started being a sought after coach in Europe and signed for Getafe in 2005, with whom he did a brilliant job, making them one of the surprise teams in the League in the 2006/07 season and qualifying them for the UEFA Cup for the first time in their history. He also took them to their first ever King’s Cup final.

After winning their 30th League title in the 2006/07 season, Real Madrid decided to change its philosophy and hired Schuster as coach at the end of the campaign. Since then, the German coach has been coming up with a new style for the team; a style that, for the moment, has allowed them to stand undefeated in the League.

Ja soll der Nachfolger von Guti werden, er ist ein toller Spieler und außerdem Spanier.

Wäre eine Hammerverpflichtung!

Hat sich in den letzten Jahren zu einem der besten Offensivkräfte der PL entwickelt und ist quasi das Um und Auf der Toffees im offensiven Mittelfeld. Real würde mit seiner Verpflichtung wohl nicht nur sich selbst Gutes tun sondern auch allen Liverpool-Fans!

Oddly enough, all this talk about Spain's midfield obscures the fact that their best player is actually Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos, who seems to get better with every game. His goal and Spain's second was a fantastic advertisement for Spanish football, and surely enough to get the critics off Aragonés' back.

As a flowing move of 28 passes left the Danish in disarray, the final ball played-in to the overlapping Ramos was too close to the goalkeeper, but Ramos arrived fractionally earlier, lifting the ball over the keeper's sliding advance with the most delicate chip imaginable, and sending the ball floating almost apologetically into the net.

Ramos has all the flash attributes necessary for superstardom, save the fact that he plays in the unfashionable position of full-back for Spain. He flits between there and centre-back for Madrid, depending who's on the menu, but if I were Aragonés, I'd look harder for a new pair of full-backs and move Ramos into the middle, even when Puyol comes back. I'd also look a bit harder for that boy who you can send to the shop on the simple errand. Villarreal's Marcos Senna? Possibly.
