Ronaldo set for Italian return

Ronaldo is certain to leave Real Madrid for Italy this summer, with Milan and Inter ready to fight it out for the services of the South American striker.

After his recent public outburst, in which the 29-year-old announced his unhappiness with the fans of the Bernabeu and further howls of derision from the Merengues faithful during his side’s recent defeat to Arsenal, reports in Madrid are certain that Ronaldo will be off at the end of the season.

Spanish sports daily ‘As’ said yesterday that, despite a club statement to the contrary on Wednesday, two Real directors had confirmed a 95 per cent certainty that ‘the Phenomenon’ would be leaving.

Even President Florentino Perez, who has always given the player his unswerving support, gave his first indication that the Brazilian would not be staying in Spain.

“The matter will be given our full consideration and dealt with sensibly,” he said.

Milan have already begun making their public appreciation of Ronaldo known, with Vice-President Adriano Galliani revealing in the week that ‘our doors are always open to someone like him,’ while Andriy Shevchenko also expressed his desire to team up with the World Cup winner.

“We can’t overlook a player like him,” he said. “It is clear that Ronaldo needs a new stimulus and in my opinion he is certainly still an excellent striker. This is not an opportunity Milan should miss out on.”

However, although the current attitude of Inter fans towards their former idol is on a par with that of Real fans after he spurned them abruptly for life as a Galactico four years ago, Nerazzurri chief Massimo Moratti still holds him in high regard.

“The day that Ronaldo left was one of the worst in my life,” said the oil baron. “It was like losing a son.”

Coming, as it did, on the verge of a vital Champions League match, Ronaldo’s critique of the Real faithful has not been well received among his teammates and so now it seems certain that he will transfer to the San Siro.

The only question is whether he will return to his old side and team up with former Merengues teammates Luis Figo and Esteban Cambiasso or whether he will be lured by the words of affection emanating from the Rossoneri camp.

Ballack close to Inter deal

Bayern Munich have admitted that Michael Ballack is edging ever nearer to a move to Inter. “We hope he stays but that decision depends on him and the Nerazzurri,” said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Ballack’s future has been in the balance for a number of months now with Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter heading a list of clubs eager to sign the Germany captain.

With both Real and United having dropped out of the running for the 29-year-old, it now seems to be a straight choice for the midfielder between staying at Bayern or moving to the Nerazzurri.

“We hope that he stays with us but that decision depends on him and Inter,” said Bayern chief and former Nerazzurri striker Rummenigge.

Ballack, whom Inter have identified as the ideal replacement for Juan Sebastian Veron, is demanding an £18m five-year-deal to move away from Munich – terms that prompted all but the Milan-based side to drop their pursuit of the player.

Inter patron Massimo Moratti, however, is prepared to part with up to £15m of his personal fortune to secure the services of one of the best all-round midfielders in the world.

Alternatively, Inter have proposed a compromise offer that would meet Ballack’s enormous salary expectation over four years.

“He is a player who interests us very much,” admitted Moratti recently. “The situation is under control.”

Ballack is expected to make the long-awaited decision on his future next month.

Juve prepare Diarra raid

Juventus are hot on the heels of Lyon’s French midfield enforcer Mahamadou Diarra, according to reports in Italy.

The 24-year-old has been an integral part of the French side’s domination of domestic football, helping guide the champions to four of their five recent titles.

He’s also orchestrated their rise to prominence on the European scene, where they reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season.

His tough tackling and energetic displays have earned the man known in his homeland as Djila numerous admirers, including Milan, as well as Premiership clubs Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, it now appears that Juve would like to lure the fleet-footed Mali international to the peninsula.

Diarra is seen as ideal cover for Emerson and Patrick Vieira in a position where Giuliano Giannichedda has failed to make an impact.

The rising star of French football will not come cheap, however, as he is contracted to Lyon until 2009 and would command a transfer fee of somewhere in the region of £10m.

Juventus are likely to face stiff competition for the combative central midfielder from Milan, who are said to be planning a double swoop that includes the French outfit’s Brazilian defender Cris.

erklär mir mal lieber wozu Juve einen Diarra braucht, ich mein selbst bei Milan ist es fast etwas unnötig!....

wenn emerson oder viera ausfallen, wer soll denn da einspringen?giannichedda,hat zu wenig erfahrung und wie es aussieht,wird er auch nicht mehr bekommen,diarra ist dafür ein sehr guter spieler.

Entschuldige den Ausdruck, doch hams dir ins Hirn geschiessen, Giannichedda hat ca. 250 Serie A Spiele auf dem Buggel, wenn er was hat, dann ist es Erfahrung.

Giannichedda war jetzt im Nachhinein gesehen genau die richtige Verpflichtung, weil....

.......er nicht motzt, wenn er auf der Bank sitzt.

.......er ablösefrei war.

.......er stets Leistung brachte wenn man ihn brauchte. (Beste Partie habe ich LIVE gesehen, in Udinese beim 1:0 Sieg).

Giannichedda ist besser als Blasi und auch für Capello nach Vieira und Emerson die erste Wahl.

er hat erfahrung,aber jetzt sag mir mal WANN bringt ihn capello???wie oft hat er ihn bis jetzt gebracht???erfahrung heißt nicht automatisch gleich besser als andere zu sein, es ist ein großer vorteil das schon,aber das wars auch!

wenn er ihn bringt, in ordnung soll er,aber er tut es nicht!wenn giannichedda mehr spielpraxis bekommen würde,könnte er sicher mehr beeindrucken.

sollte diarra kommen, wäre es auch nicht so schlecht!

Naja, verwerflich nicht, aber unnötig, da wärs dann doch gescheiter einen Nedved-Ersatz zu kaufen, den man mit Mutu meiner Meinung nach eh schon hat, und nicht einen Diarra zu holen, der auf der selben Position spielt wie ein Vieira oder Emerson und diesen dann umschult! oder bist du da anderer Meinung?

Denn wenn nicht, dann solltet ihr euch überlegen einen Malouda zu holen, der genau so einen Nedved-Ersatz darstellt, den ich ganz nebenbei gerne bei Milan hätte!...
