Mai im Palats Sportu, bei denen die Global Kryner wegen der schlechten Platzierung von Tie Break (diese landeten mit ihrem Son "Du Bist" als Viertletzte auf Platz 21) im Vorjahr unter die ersten zehn von 26 Nationen kommen müssen, um am Finale teilnehmen zu können, "müssen wir schaffen. Das schulden wir den Österreichern".

Und auch im Finale am 21. Mai rechnen sie sich gute Chancen aus:    "In Europa geht es eher um den olympischen Gedanken. Naja, aber man will doch vorne sein". Es sei auch "realistisch, dass wir weit vorne landen". Denn "die Spanier müssen uns zwölf Punkte geben, weil wir spanisch singen. Die Slowenen soundso, weil wir Oberkrainer machen. Und die Türkei muss uns wählen, weil wir Alf Poier verhindert haben", so Spörk mit einer "Entschuldigung an alle Moslems" in Anspielung auf eine umstrittene und später weggelassene Textzeile in Poiers zweitplatziertem Song "Good Old Europe is Dying".

We have an appointment to talk to Wig Wam after their press conference on 14 May. Their manager invites us to their wardrobe and we chat about milk and sunglasses, look deep into each others eyes and have a smoke.

eurovision.tv: Okay, guys, can we do a short interview with all of you?

[Flash is in a hurry and Glam is smiling down at us, wearing his glittery platform shoes. But where are Teeny and Sporty?]

Glam: Yeaaahhh, do you mind if I change my clothes?

eurovision.tv: No, not at all. Go ahead. [Maybe we’ll learn more about the guys this way?]

Glam [changing his mind]: Ah, no – I need to go to the toilet. Follow me!

eurovision.tv: Well...

[Glam turns to his right and sees Sporty, Flash and Teeny having a smoke so changes his mind again. We can finally start the interview. Flash picks up our small dictaphone]

Flash: Is this a microphone?

eurovision.tv: Yes, a dictaphone. It’s tiny so it can fit into any pocket. Anyway let’s start... Wig Wam, you are supposed to be the hardest working glam rockers in Europe. Do you have any troubles with your age or your health?

[The guys are deeply inhaling their cigarettes]

Wig Wam: No, not at all. We’re just doing the regular things that everyone does. We’re having sex, doing rock ‘n’ roll but, to be quite honest with you, we don’t take drugs. That was a joke during the press conference.

Glam: In Norway, I am known to be a milk drinker. We love milk. But we never go on stage having taken drugs or being drunk. We want to give 190% every night so our audience gets value for money.

Teeny, Sporty and Flash: When we talk about ‘Sex, Drugs and Rock’N’Roll’ it’s only a joke. [They all start laughing.]

eurovision.tv: Well, here’s a question for Teeny, Sporty and Flash. You wear the darkest sunglasses we’ve ever seen. Have you ever seen the sunlight?

Teeny, Sporty and Flash: We take off our glasses sometimes.

Glam [adds]: But not very often, I can tell you that. I don’t wear sunglasses. I like to look people into the eye. [Glam coming nearer and nearer to my face] Actually, you have beautiful eyes.

eurovision.tv [blushing]: Oh, thank you.... Let’s talk about your penchant for wearing women’s clothes, Glam. Have you been spending too much time in your mother’s wardrobe? [Glam is wearing a glamourous dark red bathrobe.]

Glam: No, not at all. You know, when you go out on stage it’s all a question of sweat.

eurovision.tv: Er, yes, we can imagine…

Glam: You’re wet all over after a show. So I put on this to avoid making myself ill. It used to belong to Hugh Hefner actually.

eurovision.tv: Your motto is “Rock is the new Schläger”. In some languages ‘Schläger’ means something different to what you’re saying – it means ‘to beat’.

Glam: We would like to beat you with rock. We wanna kick your ass off with some pure rock ‘n’ roll.

eurovision.tv: It’s normally women who travel with big beauty cases. What do you travel with? A lot of make-up and beauty products?

Glam: Why shouldn’t men be allowed to wear make-up and nail polish? It’s 2005, for Christ’s sake.

eurovision.tv: Your latest album is entitled ‘It’s Hard To Be A Rock ‘n’ Roller’. What’s so hard about it?

Glam: Yep, it’s hard. [Laughter from the others]. Did you think that was irony?

Teeny, Sporty and Flash: [More laughter and nodding]

Glam: Okay, it’s fun. It becomes hard when you tour as heavily as we do. If you listen to the lyrics you’ll get the point. It’s about rock stars who think it’s hard to be rock ‘n’ rollers, who sit in stretch limos and have girls waiting for them in the hotel rooms – it’s an ironic kick in the ass to rock stars. Stop complaining and start having fun!

eurovision.tv: What are you like when you’re at home?

Wig Wam: We are four guys who have regular lives. When we go on stage we put on our glittery stuff and off we rock.

eurovision.tv: So you have three children, a house in the green...?

Wig Wam: Exactly!

eurovision.tv: Would you like to add anything?

Wig Wam: We are having a great time in Kyiv. The journalists and city have welcomed us with open arms. We’re having fun. If we had no fun here, we wouldn’t do it. Hello Europe, we love you!
