I reckon this deal depends on Rapid qualifying for the Europa, if they fail to qualify I wouldn't put it passed your chairman accepting our original bid, if you qualify then no way are we gonna pay 3.5M in our financial state for a player who we cant play in European games.

I agree with your assessment, most of all since our chairman tends to include the Euro games in his budget which would leave a hole in case we fail. Selling Jelavic would be an option then. Personally I find it a fair price, I have no doubt Jela has great talent and would be a great signing but he is playing in Austria, no disrespect to you Vienna fans but it isn't exactly a "great" league just like our league in Scotland and with the money trouble Rangers have at the moment I can't see us spending 4M on one player.

To compare it a bit: The level of the Croatian league is below the level of the Austrian league. Nevertheless international clubs pay much more for players.

- Wolfsburg about 7-8 Mio. € for Mandzukic

- Tottenham about 20 Mio. € for Modric

They were playing just in the Croatian league, so why paying such a sum for them?

You're right, Austria hasn't got a great league but im very sure that Rangers didn't take a notice of Jelavic because he plays in the Austrian league. Rather because he scored in the EL (especially against Celtic), so he has proofed he can stand his ground against good clubs. And why should Rapid be interested in the amount of money Rangers CAN spend for Jelavic. That doesn't matter to Rapid, if a club won't pay the adequate sum, the club won't get the player. It's the same everywhere.

I can see where your coming from though but Rangers won't offer anymore than 3.5M so its upto Jela really if he don't want to play for Vienna then you guys are gonna have an unhappy player on your hands.

If we can trust a source from another board the 5 possible opponents are PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, Getafe, Lok Moskau and Dnipr Dnipropetrovsk. If that's true I have to say: It could have been worse.

Im afraid it probably will be worse because as far as im aware you can get anyone on the seeded side of the draw, not just some teams.

Good to have some Scotsmen on the board, but just one thing mate: Our club is called RAPID! You might call it Rapid Vienna but as there is another club in this town (alright, there not that well known outside of our country ), the "Rapid" is a must.
