Evidence of Eric Belanger's stay in Nashville is nonexistent.

No goals, no assists, no penalty minutes, no games.

No proof.

Unofficially, all that remains of Belanger's term with the Predators? One set of never-worn longjohns. Before Saturday morning's skate, he'd been working his way through the Predators' dressing room, meeting his brand-new teammates. Partway through that exercise -- and all the way through his underwear order with the trainer -- he was told to go see Nashville general manager David Poile. That made perfect sense. After all, only the day before -- Friday -- had Poile acquired the veteran centreman from the Carolina Hurricanes. Of course, it would be grand to meet his boss.

"So I went across the hall to his office," Belanger was saying before Tuesday's game against the Calgary Flames at the Pengrowth Saddledome. "That's when he told me I was traded (to the Atlanta Thrashers). So I went back across the hall to get my stuff. But the rest of the (Predators) were coming over the shake my hand and meet me, and I was, 'Nice to meet you. See you later.' I was just laughing about it. There's a lot of great stories about hockey -- that's one of them. Crazy."

Just to make this crystal clear:

- Friday, Carolina trades Belanger to Nashville for Josef Vasicek.

- Saturday, Nashville trades Belanger to Atlanta for Vitaly Vishnevski.

Alexandra Belanger, not surprisingly, thought her husband was joshing on the phone. "She's like, 'Stop messing around,' " the 29-year-old says. "I'm like, 'I'm serious. I'm traded again.' She's like, 'Where? Where?' I told her I was going to the Thrashers. And she's like, 'OK, that's close to Carolina. A good team.' She felt that I was really happy about the situation. When I'm happy, she's happy -- and vice versa. I've got a great wife. It's the third move of the year."

Noteworthy is Belanger's weekend passage -- from the Stanley Cup champs to the Western Conference's top side to the Southeast Division's pace-setters.

"I was with L.A. for 10 years, then -- boom, boom, boom -- three times in one year," says Belanger, who'd left the Kings as a free agent in the summer. "It's a good sign when top teams want you. It's good for my ego -- exactly what I needed." No wonder, sitting in the dressing room with his latest chums, Belanger was all smiles. It doesn't hurt that he's centring Marian Hossa and Slava Kozlov. Or that he'd scored Sunday in his debut with Atlanta.

Even when he's reminded that there are still two weeks to the trade deadline, he manages a chuckle. "Oh, please give me a break," Belanger, looking skyward, says. "It's been quick, but I'm really glad to be here. It's a great opportunity for me. I'm comfortable already, and I've only been here three days." And, as an soon-to-be free agent, Belanger knows that a potentially lucrative contract could be around the corner. Maybe one with a no-trade clause? "Yeah," he says, with a guffaw, "I might put that at the bottom of the page."
