Juventus look to Baggio

The legendary Roberto Baggio may have a part to play in the new Juventus, reports in Italy are insisting.

Both the Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport newspapers splashed Baggio’s name across their front pages today, highlighting the possibility of a romantic return to Turin for the Divin Codino.

The Agnelli family, who are majority shareholders in the outfit, are looking to freshen up their hierarchy following the departure of the infamous Triade – Roberto Bettega, Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo.

The latter were actually responsible for Baggio’s exit in the 1990s when they wouldn’t meet his wage demands for a new contract.

However, Baggio could now be on the verge of a sensational return with the Old Lady prepared to offer him the Vice-President role.

John Elkann, the nephew of Gianni Agnelli – the man responsible for Baggio’s arrival as a player, wants the legendary Italian to help restore the club’s credibility in the game after the explosion of the ‘Calciopoli’ scandal.

Baggio, according to the reports, was initially contacted before his May 20 departure for his annual hunting holiday in Argentina.

It’s understood that the one time No 10 has given his disposal to working with the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit.

The club are now awaiting his return from South America before holding more substantial talks with the former fan favourite.

Baggio has been flooded with offers from the football world since he quit the game just over two years ago.

It was believed that Inter chief Massimo Moratti was preparing to offer him a role with the Nerazzurri.

Cassetti seals Roma contract

Former Lecce full-back Marco Cassetti has agreed a Roma deal, while Fernando Couto extends his Parma career.

Cassetti reportedly put pen to paper on a three-year contract this evening and will receive £410,000 per season.

The defender had confirmed to newspapers last week that he had chosen the Giallorossi as his next destination following Lecce’s relegation to Serie B and he underwent a medical this morning.

Roma will pay £1.1m for co-ownership of Cassetti, who has two senior Italy caps to his name.

However, there are still some details to resolve, as the Stadio Via del Mare side hasn’t yet finalised which youth team player to take as part of the deal.

He is set to be Roma’s second signing of the summer, as ex-Sampdoria midfielder Max Tonetto penned a contract holding him to the club until June 2008.

Milan chief Adriano Galliani outlined their transfer policy, aimed another sideswipe at Real Madrid and Chelsea, then revealed Thierry Henry talks.

“Our dream was to bring Henry to San Siro. I can say he certainly would’ve joined us had he not decided to stay with Arsenal,” announced the Rossoneri vice-President. “Milan are a buying club, not a selling one, and we want to remain at the top of the European tree.”

Henry had been linked with both Barcelona and Milan ahead of the Champions League Final, but it’s believed the loss convinced him to extend his contract with the Gunners instead.

Following Andriy Shevchenko’s £30m move to Chelsea, the media around Europe has gone into overdrive trying to identify who’ll come in – and who might go out.

“Shevchenko will be replaced by someone worthy of him, but we won’t sign a big star unless he’s useful to the side. Didier Drogba and Ruud Van Nistelrooy are centre-forwards, so they wouldn’t substitute Shevchenko in the system. I say no to Ronaldo, as it’s impossible to get close to a Real Madrid player without getting bled dry.”

“We aren’t in a bad way upfront,” continued Galliani. “There’s Pippo Inzaghi, Marcio Amoroso and above all Alberto Gilardino, who has our faith for the future. Pasquale Foggia will return from his loan spell at Ascoli and will stay at San Siro, while we’re in advanced negotiations for Yoann Gourcuff after entering very productive talks with Rennes.”

Galliani did everything possible to make Shevchenko’s move to Chelsea smooth, but aimed a few pointed comments in his direction after the Ukrainian insisted he made the switch to appease his American wife.

“Dario Simic is an important player for our defence and he will stay… seeing as his wife is happy to remain in Milan.”

There is also a very bitter row brewing between the Rossoneri and Real Madrid, after Presidential candidate Ramon Calderon announced plans to fly to Switzerland this week to ‘get to know Kaka.’

“I requested Massimo Oddo, but Lazio said he was not for sale and I respect that decision. I have no intention of irritating clubs that make their intentions clear, unlike for example Real Madrid’s strategy,” added Galliani.

“William Gallas is a similar issue, as he has another year left to run on his contract and Chelsea have told us they intend to make him respect that. If no renewal is agreed, he’ll be free to evaluate his future next season.”

Milan are eager to play down the idea that Shevchenko’s departure has weakened the side and insist nobody will be following him out of the club.

“Clarence Seedorf rang me to ask if he could inherit Manuel Rui Costa’s Number 10 jersey, so this shows you he has no intention of leaving Milan. Christian Abbiati, Marco Borriello and Foggia are our players, while Fiorentina have not taken their option on Cristian Brocchi and he wants to come back. Some of this group will be loaned out, but definitely not sold.”

wir brauchen also nur mehr einen stürmer und einen rechten verteidiger. ich würde mir für vorne einen aus Tevez/Ibrahimovic/Suazo wünschen wobei suazo der realistischte kandidat ist. rechts hinten wäre daniel alves von Sevilla fein aber der wird für uns warscheinlich zu teuer sein.

trotzdem schaut der kader recht gut aus wie ich finde.

der transfer wär fast zu schön um wahr zu sein... damit würde das team extrem verstärkt werden und würde sicher zum (erweiterten) kreis der titelaspiranten zählen.

ich sags ja immer...das rinigende gewitter bei juve kann nur gut sein für den italienischen fussball. einen solchen transfer hätt ich im winter niemals auch nur für denkbar gehalten, jetzt sind die zweifel noch immer groß, aber wenn etwas draus wird, wers der coup des jahres. dazu noch de rossi, chivu und wie sie alle heissen halten, totti eine verletzungsfreie saison spielen lassen und man wird ganz vorne mitspielen können, auch international. die hoffnung auf die cl ist ja wegen juve auch größer denn je, und trezegoal will sich sicher in der königsklasse präsentieren! mal sehn, was tatsächlich dabei rauskommt.

mido ok, ich denk mit dem wirds soundso nix. wollte der ned in england bleiben, dann wieder doch nicht usw. solche spieler bringen von der einstellung her schon nix.

btw: was ist jetzt mit rául? wollte der nicht auch kommen, weil er die ewige stadt so liebt? stand da nicht mal was in channel 4 oder so.

Also Raul und Trez wirds glaub ich nicht spielen, aber wenn Juve absteigt (von dem gehen wir mal aus) und dazu vielleicht noch einer der anderen Vereine (Milan oder Fiorentina), dann bin ich mir sicher, dass die Roma um den Titel unbedingt mitspielen will und auch wird.

Ist ja auch klar, wenn vielleicht 2 große nicht um den Titel mitspielen. Es wird glaub ich dann noch mehrere Mannschaften ("Mittelständler") geben, die mehr Geld investieren werden als sonst, weil die eben dann auch eine Chance auf internationale Plätze sehen.

Aber eins ist bei diesen Spekulationen immer zuerst zu betrachten: Das alles gilt nur, wenn Juve wirklich absteigt, und vor allem dann wenns vielleicht auch andere große erwischt.

Ansonsten sehe ich diese Spekulationen nicht sehr ernst an. Aber dass der Verein AS Rom mit diesem Gedanken spielt, ist eh jedem klar.

rául is sowieso nicht ernst zu nehmen. und in dem trezeguet bericht wird auch mehr dementiert, als bestätigt. aber das min ausleihen versteh ich nicht. trezeguet hat eh nur mehr 2 jahre vertrag. und bisdahin ist juve sicher nicht mehr in serie a (wenn sie in c absteigen, dann geht das schon reinrechnerisch nicht und bei der b ist auch noch lang nicht gesagt, dass der sofortige wiederaufstieg ohne starspieler nur "formsache" ist). und das trezeguet bei juve jetzt den vertrag verängert, glaubt wohl eh keiner, also kann ausleihen in meinen augen bei dieser konstellation keinen besindern sinn machen...

und wie gesagt, dass war mehr fantasie als realität. denke aber, dass trezeguets gehalt für roma schon drinnen ist, wenn man sich iaquinta samt ablöse dann sparen kann.

und selbst wenn sie den sofortigen wiederaufstieg schaffen, werden sie nicht im ersten jahr nach der b um den titel in der a mitspielen können. das ist in meinen augen undenkbar. und dass dann trezeguet zu juve in der saison 07/08 kommt und mit den turinern um die plätze 10-15 rittert, ist glaub ich auch nicht wirklich anzunehmen.

palermo hat uns finanziell auch schon überholt. die werden diesen sommer 50 mio für transfers ausgeben und haben uns auch schon (wie's scheint) semioli weggeschnappt. von der fiorentina will ich gar nicht erst reden...

also wenn wir keinen semioli bekommen können weil die konkurrenz zu stark ist, wieso sollten wir dann trezeguet bekommen?
