Packers Draft

1 5(5) AJ Hawk OLB OHIO STATE

Outside linebacker is among the Packers' most pressing needs, and Hawk is the best on the board. There are some questions about his hip fluidity and man-to-man cover skills, but he makes plays all over the field.

2 15(47) Daryn Colledge OT BOISE STATE

The Packers addressed a position of need with Colledge, who could emerge as a guard in the NFL. Surprising, however, was their choice of Colledge, when higher rated prospects were still on the board.

2 20(52) Greg Jennings WR WESTERN MICHIGAN

Jennings was one of the fastest-rising prospects during the 2006 pre-draft process, and he fits a need for the Packers, who essentially were forced to trade disgruntled WR Javon Walker.

3 3(67) Abdul Hodge ILB IOWA

3 11(75) Jason Spitz OC LOUISVILLE

4 7(104) Cory Rodgers WR TCU

4 18(115) Will Blackmon WR BOSTON COLLEGE

5 15(148) Ingle Martin QB FURMAN

5 33(165) Tony Moll OT NEVADA

6 14(183) Johnny Jolly DT TEXAS A&M

6 16(185) Tyrone Culver S FRESNO STATE

7 45(253) Dave Tollefson DE NW MISSOURI ST

Als Abschluss noch eine objektivere ( :D ) Analyse des Packers Draft Days:

Packers' draft report card already in

May 2, 2006

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Most everyone in the National Football League says it is both foolish and meaningless to rate a draft a mere day after it has taken place.

However, most everyone also ignores the temptation to be reasonable and they go ahead with snap judgments that are at best shallow and at worst reckless.

So who are we to stand in the way of this grand tradition of insisting on rushing to after-draft judgment? Who are we to get in the way of opinion that cannot have the benefit of evidence, context and nuance?

Hey, we do that every day.

These are grades or ratings some NFL observers gave to the Green Bay Packers' draft over the weekend:

-- Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN (B): "I gave Green Bay an A after the first day. The Packers had a lot of picks (12), and some were definitely reaches. Linebacker A.J. Hawk, their first-round pick at No. 5, will give the Packers a much-needed face on defense. Offensive tackle Daryn Colledge needs to get stronger and become a better run-blocker. I really like WR Greg Jennings, LB Abdul Hodge and C Jason Spitz."

-- John Clayton, ESPN: (one of six draft "Losers"): "They didn't get great value for Javon Walker, only getting a second-round choice instead of two seconds, which they were demanding Friday. While A.J. Hawk was a great choice to help the defense, the Packers didn't do much to help Brett Favre.. .. As it has been the entire off- season, the Packers haven't seized the moment."

-- Dan Pompeii, Sporting News.com: (A-plus): "With linebackers A.J. Hawk and Abdul Hodge, the Packers have the beginnings of a defense that could dominate the NFC North for years."

-- John Czarnecki, Fox Sports.com (B-plus): "The Packers went for intelligent, all-around football players starting with all- everything linebacker A.J. Hawk, who can play the middle and also be a nickel linebacker.. .. The only knock on the Packers was giving up on Javon Walker, a former first-round pick and a Pro Bowl player, for a second-round choice. They could end up regretting that trade."

-- Jarrett Bell, USA Today (2 out of 4 stars): "If A.J. Hawk becomes the next Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher, he was worth the fifth pick."

-- Don Pierson, Chicago Tribune (B): "Unlike Brian Urlacher, who had to transition from safety, Hawk is an experienced and instinctive linebacker who will improve the defense immediately."

-- Rick Gosselin, Dallas Morning News ©: "The Packers enjoyed the best first day, starting with Hawk. He had the fewest holes of any player on this board and arguably the best intangibles. Colledge, Jennings, Hodge and Spitz all have the ability to start in the NFL."

-- Pete Prisco, CBS SportsLine.com (B): "Getting Hawk is a great move, and third-round pick Abdul Hodge is another linebacker who will find his way onto the field."

Update: The Dolphins' confidence in Culpepper's ability to return to full health in time for the start of the season continues to grow, the Miami Herald reports. The good news follows the quarterback's latest evaluation by Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who repaired three ligaments in Culpepper's knee in November. Because of this positive outlook, it is reported that the Dolphins even withdrew a trade offer to Detroit for quarterback Joey Harrington and instead prefer to wait until the Lions cut him in June.

Recommendation: Said coach Nick Saban about the outcome of the evaluation, "Dr. Andrews gave him an A-plus grade in terms of where he was in his rehab...We're just going to continue to progress with him. We can make no predictions about when he'll be 100 percent, and we certainly won't put him in a situation that he can't continue to make progress." In line with this thinking, Culpepper has already begun to participate fully in team workouts.

und wie er mal wieder Recht gehabt hat :D

Dolphins acquire QB Harrington from Lions for draft pick

DETROIT -- The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Joey Harrington from Detroit for an undisclosed conditional draft pick, giving the Dolphins a fallback position if new starter Daunte Culpepper isn't ready for the season's first snap.

"We're pleased to have Joey Harrington join the Dolphins," head coach Nick Saban said in a statement. "We will work with him to get him acclimated to our system as quickly as possible."

The Dolphins had been searching for a backup to Culpepper and targeted Harrington, the former No. 3 overall pick who didn't live up to expectations in four years as the Lions' starter. Harrington had expressed his desire to play with the Dolphins.

Anscheinend setzt Schwarzenegger alles daran, bald wieder ein NFL Team das seine nennen kann - also eher das von LA :green:

Council enacts plan for improvements to lure NFL team

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The City Council voted Friday to spend $25 million on improvements around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in hopes of luring an NFL team back to the city.

Under the plan, the city Community Redevelopment Agency would issue $25 million in bonds for street widening, site clearing and other work near the Coliseum, which would be paid for by expected tax revenue from the stadium.

In coming years, the city estimates it could spend up to $121 million more for additional transit and other improvements, which would also be funded by stadium taxes.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has said public funds will not be used for a proposed $800 million renovation at the Coliseum. The city-funded improvements approved by the Council amount to incentives to make the city's NFL pitch more attractive.

"The dollars will be limited to improvements around the stadium, not the actual construction," said Villaraigosa spokesman Joe Ramallo.

City officials hope NFL owners, who meet in Denver next week, will bring a team to the Coliseum by the 2009 season.

Under the city plan, the Coliseum would be extensively renovated with money from the NFL.

The Coliseum is used by the University of Southern California football team. It hasn't hosted a professional team since the Raiders left after the 1994 season.

NFL to spend $5 million each on Los Angeles, Anaheim proposals

DENVER (AP) -- The NFL is spending $10 million to help Los Angeles and Anaheim with their plans for bringing the league back to the nation's second-largest media market.

Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced the decision on Tuesday after a day-and-a-half of meetings focused on the desire to put a team in the area vacated by the Rams and Raiders after the 1994 season.

[...]

The NFL money is expected to go toward design and engineering studies at the two proposed sites.

Getting a team back in the Los Angeles area is not imminent. No team has been designated, nor has a decision been made whether Los Angeles will get an existing franchise that relocates or an expansion team.
