Antonio Chimenti has apologised for his error in the defeat to Milan, while Carlo Ancelotti, Emerson and Kaka also gave their verdict on the San Siro clash.

“Andrea Pirlo’s goal went in because of my mistake, even if the ball took a strange swerve as it came round the wall,” conceded the Juventus goalkeeper after last night’s 3-1 defeat. “Milan punished us in the first half, but we have the right potential to get out of this situation.”

Chimenti is Juve’s third choice goalkeeper and started due to Gianluigi Buffon’s shoulder injury and a bout of tonsillitis for Christian Abbiati.

“The Rossoneri were lucky because they scored against the run of play,” explained his team-mate Emerson. “We tried to get back into the swing of things, but their second goal came almost immediately and it’s not easy to recover against such a strong side.”

This result has closed the gap at the top of the table to just two points and the Scudetto race has been blown wide open.

“Milan were better than Juventus on the night, it really is as simple as that,” said Kaka, who netted the second goal on Saturday evening. “It was a great feeling on a wonderful night for the club. We always maintained the same approach, both on the field and off it.”

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the title is within their grasp after notching up seven consecutive Serie A victories.

“Now we are right back in the Scudetto race and we were in better condition than Juve going into this game,” assured the Coach. “To take the lead so early was helpful, but the difference was made by our aggressive temperament.”

The Bianconeri had won all nine of its opening ties, but Ancelotti found the tactical key to unpick that lock.

“Gennaro Gattuso was extraordinary, as was Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi. The defenders marked Zlatan Ibrahimovic tightly and that is how you must face Juventus.”

Video evidence angers top duo

Milan and Juventus have reacted with frustration to the news that four incidents from their game on Saturday night are to be reviewed with a view to disciplinary action.

The moments in question are Lilian Thuram’s alleged elbow on Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi apparently punching Giorgio Chiellini, while Adrian Mutu and Pavel Nedved reportedly stamped on Alessandro Nesta and Genarro Gattuso (pictured) respectively.

The Rossoneri were 3-1 victors thanks to goals from Clarence Seedorf, Kaka, Andrea Pirlo.

Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti was dubious that any review was necessary. “As far as I’m concerned there was nothing that would merit video evidence,” he told the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Even Gattuso, one of the victims, was against the decision, saying: “I didn’t see anything needing a replay.”

While those on the Milan side appeared apathetic, Juve transfer guru Luciano Moggi reacted with sarcasm. “I’ve got nothing to declare, like customs – they can do what they want.”

The first review is set to take place this evening.

Video evidence clears Juve stars

After much controversy and debate, video evidence will not be used against Adrian Mutu, Lilian Thuram, Pavel Nedved and Milan’s Pippo Inzaghi.

The four players were left on tenterhooks after the Disciplinary Commission requested viewing of TV evidence for the Rossoneri’s 3-1 victory over Juventus on Saturday evening.

The moments in question were Thuram’s alleged elbow on Alberto Gilardino and Inzaghi apparently punching Giorgio Chiellini, while Mutu and Nedved reportedly stamped on Alessandro Nesta and Gennaro Gattuso respectively.

Members of both clubs insisted the incidents did not warrant punishment and the Commissioner Maurizio Landi agreed after viewing the footage.

In the case of the three Juve players, the referee was “watching the action at the time and did not witness moves worthy of punishment,” and therefore video evidence cannot be applied.

As for Inzaghi lashing out at Chiellini, the Disciplinary Commission ruled that the gesture “could not be classified as aggressive. The fourth official saw the incident at close hand and interpreted it as a normal attempt to shake off his marker and gather an incoming pass from Andrea Pirlo. Chiellini held on to Inzaghi’s jersey and the Milan striker extended his right arm in a bid to release himself.”
