Ah, hat leicht die Roma die Zahlen bekannt gegeben? Auf der Spurs-HP finde ich komischerweise keine offiziellen Angaben. Ich glaube, du verwechselst beim ersten Angebot Euro und Pfund.

Wie hoch die Summen wirklich sind, ist schwer zu eruieren, ich lese über den endgültigen Deal jedenfalls überall von 3,2 - 4 Millionen Pfund.

Mido war jetzt definitiv nicht teurer als zum Saisonende, da erstens die Roma zuerst noch mit ihm geplant hat, jetzt aber nicht mehr, und zweitens die Spurs, nach der Verpflichtung von Bebratov, nicht mehr dringend nach einem Stürmer gesucht haben, sondern nach einer Kaderergänzung.

Und woher eure tiefe Abneigung gegenüber Mido kommt, würde mich auch interessieren.

Steed Malbranque and Pascal Chimbonda were last night poised to join the club, and at least two players are set to depart.

After a busy day of negotiations Spurs agreed a fee with Wigan Athletic for Chimbonda and looked certain to get Malbranque from Fulham in a deal which is likely to see Wayne Routledge move in the opposite direction. Chimbonda's arrival clears the way for Lee Young-pyo to join Roma, the club from whom Mido has signed for Spurs for £3.4m.

Tottenham Hotspur began what promises to be two days of intense transfer activity at the club last night when they agreed a deal to bring Fulham's unsettled French midfielder, Steed Malbranque, to White Hart Lane with Wayne Routledge moving in the opposite direction on a loan deal.

The deal for Malbranque, 26, is likely to cost Tottenham in the region of £2m, with Routledge staying at Craven Cottage for a year on loan. The former France Under-21 international has been courted by Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United over the summer after falling out with Chris Coleman over his refusal to sign a new contract.

Malbranque would have been a free agent next summer and able to leave on a Bosman free transfer but Tottenham have decided to make a move for him after their £10m pursuit of Stewart Downing was met with a flat refusal from Middlesbrough to sell. Although Malbranque favours the right wing, he can play on the left and it is there that Tottenham are likely to use him as a foil to Aaron Lennon on the opposite flank.

The deal was made possible by Routledge's availability and he is likely to get more first-team chances at Fulham than at Tottenham. The England Under-21 international joined Tottenham from Crystal Palace last summer but spent the second half of the season on loan at Portsmouth. The 21-year-old's suitability for the right wing makes him a natural short-term replacement for Malbranque.

The deal marks the end of an unusual six months for Malbranque, who is one of the Premiership's less celebrated talents ­ or at least he was until the Prime Minister Tony Blair selected him as one of his favourite players during a guest appearance on the BBC's Football Focus last season.

Popular with the Fulham fans, Malbranque was offered "the most significant financial package in Fulham's history", according to the club, but pursued his desire to leave instead.

Tottenham have proved themselves to be canny operators in the last days of the transfer window and it is likely that Malbranque, who was not even given a squad number by Coleman for the start of the season, was growing increasingly desperate to leave. The former Lyon man, who joined Fulham for £4.5m in 2001, had originally set his sights on a Champions' League side but will have the consolation of Uefa Cup football at Tottenham.

Spurs in £11m spree

BIG-SPENDING Spurs last night sealed an £11.5million hat-trick — snapping up Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda and Mido.

Manager Martin Jol made his three-way swoop ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

First, he sealed Mido’s £4m return to White Hart Lane after the Egyptian international striker spent last season on loan from Roma.

Then he agreed a £5m deal with Wigan for full-back Chimbonda, with £3.75m up front and the rest based on appearances.

And the Spurs boss completed a hectic day of transfer activity when he hijacked Malbranque’s £2.5million move from Fulham to West Ham.

Hammers boss Alan Pardew was confident of signing French midfielder Malbranque this week.

But the player made it clear he preferred a move to White Hart Lane and expects to sign a £30,000-a-week contract today.

Malbranque, 26, will become the final piece in Jol’s jigsaw after a dismal start to the new season.

He has been out in the cold at Fulham since refusing to sign a new Craven Cottage contract.

Now Malbranque will fill the gap on the left of Tottenham’s midfield after Jol abandoned his pursuit of Middlesbrough’s England winger Stewart Downing.

His move to White Hart Lane will be a kick in the teeth for West Ham following Michael Carrick’s £18.6m switch to Manchester United this month.

The Hammers received just £3m when they sold Carrick to Spurs two years ago.

But they failed to insert a sell-on clause into the deal and watched Spurs pocket a £15.6m profit on the player.

It is that money which has financed Spurs’ sudden burst of transfer activity.

Chimbonda, 27, got his wish after angering Wigan by slapping in a transfer request on the final day of last season.

Korean full-back Lee Young Pyo is now expected to move to Roma as the makeweight in Mido’s return to North London.

The Egyptian striker, who spent 18 months on loan at Spurs, is delighted to be back on a permanent contract.

He admitted: “It was always a great honour for me to play for Tottenham and I always knew in my heart I would be back.

“It is a fantastic move for me. I can’t wait to pull on a Tottenham shirt again, to play at the Lane and score more goals.”

Mido, 23, netted 14 times during his previous spell at the club but annoyed Jol when he allowed his weight to balloon.

But he has shed the best part of two stone over the summer and will challenge Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov up front.

Jol said: “We have been tracking Mido since his loan ended.

“Our striking options are now complete.”

Mal sehen, wieviel davon stimmt.

Soviel ich weiß, kann Malbranque zentral und rechts agieren.

Er hat anscheinend eine scheiß Einstellung, würde uns aber mit Sicherheit mehr Kreativität bringen.

Ob er allerdings der Richtige wäre, um ihn auf links einzusetzen, bezweifle ich, und Lennon auf links, Malbranque auf rechts holt wieder nicht das Beste aus Lennon heraus.

Chimbonda wäre ebenfalls willkommen, obwohl ich die Aufregung um ihn nicht ganz verstehe. Er hat eine sehr starke Saison gespielt, aber er muß erst beweisen, dass er diese Leistung konstant bringen kann.

Hoffentlich ist die YPL-Geschichte nur neu aufgewärmtes Geschwätz vom Jänner.

is zwar schon ne zeit her, anfang des jahres, beim afrika-cup. da hätt er sich im HF nach seiner auswechslung, fast mim eigenen trainer geprügelt. da is er mir wirklich negativ aufgefalln und auch sonst soll er ne ordntliche kretzn sein...

Im Augenblick stehen 9 Mittelfeldspieler im Kader der Ersten, der insgesamt 26 Spieler umfasst.

Ganz ehrlich, ich weiß nicht, wieso praktisch jeder Anhänger eines anderen Vereines meint, das wäre viel zu viel.

Zum Vergleich:

Auf der Homepage von LFC kann man 12 Mittelfeldspieler zählen. Insgesamt umfasst der Kader laut HP 30 Spieler.

Meanwhile, Roma sporting director Daniele Prade has shed light on the reasons behind Roma's failure to land fellow Spurs defender Lee Young-pyo.

The South Korean international had been expected to move to Stadio Olimpico, but Prade says the deal fell through at the last minute due to personal reasons.

ich hab nichts, wenn mn "viele" MF spieler in den reihen hat. ich sehs bei fulham, die haben auch daweil noch 9 MF spieler im kader, wobei da malbranque und legwinski schon weg sind. aber die qualität unseres mittelfeldes is halt nicht sehr hoch. sieht man jez vor allem wenn boa morte auslässt, dann is fast nix kreatives mehr da, und bullard ist offensiv total auf sich allein gestellt...

Bei Malbranque hätte ich auch zugeschlagen. Weniger als Ersatz für rechts oder links, sondern fürs Zentrum, wo Jenas leider vieles schuldig bleibt. Selbst gegen Sheffield war Keane, der sich zurückfallen ließ, der einzige kreative Part.

Jol wird ihn wohl aber eher für links geholt haben, zumindest meint er, dass Malbranque u.A. dort spielen kann.

Der Mann hat Fulham jahrelang getragen und wird mit besseren Mitspielern noch mehr leisten können.

Die übrigen Transfers sind mir auch sehr willkommen! BAE, Zokora, Berbatov, der jungen Dervitte und der Tscheche in der Akademie, das passt schon so.

Wir müssen heuer einfach gute Läufe in den beiden nationalen und im Europacup haben, andernfalls ist Defoe vielleicht im Winter weg, sollte er weiterhin nicht treffen. Falls er aber seine Form aus den Vorbereitungsspielen und aus der Saison 04/05, in der er - trotz schlechteren Mitspielern - ~20 Tore schoss, bestätigen kann, wird wohl Keane weg wollen.

Haben wir in den Cupbewerben Erfolg, wären drei gestandene Stürmer wiederum zuwenig, von daher eine Zwickmühle, der man nur durch möglichst viele Spiele entkommen kann.

Chimbonda ist jedoch eine wirkliche Verstärkung, die neue Außenverteidigung wird einige Freude bereiten. Paul Stalteri wird wohl den Verein verlassen. viele Minuten wird er nicht mehr spielen. Darf er jetzt eigentlich schon beim nächsten Spiel spielen oder erst ab Jänner`?

Wieso sollte Stalteri erst ab Jänner spielen dürfen?

Malbranque wird jedenfalls noch rund zehn Wochen ausfallen.

Nur wo ist mein (unser) LM? Wo ist Stewart Downing?

Seit drei Jahren die Problemzone im Mittelfeld und noch immer konnte man sie nicht beheben. Anscheinend wollte man Downing unbedingt, wovon auch die Bereitschaft zeugt, einen irrsinnigen Preis für ihn zu bezahlen, aber Middlesdingsbums und der Bub sind da stur.

Martin Petrov wäre mir viel lieber gewesen. Auch, wenn er in Spanien eine unkonstante erste Saison hatte, halte ich ihn für deutlich stärker als Downing, der außer Maßflanken leider nicht viel bieten kann. Technisch nicht wirklich stark, läuferisch nicht überragend, kein großer Dribbler... viel bleibt da nicht, was einen guten Flügel ausmacht.

Trotzdem hätte ich mich sehr über Downing gefreut, da wir dann zumindest endlich Balance in der Mannschaft hätten. Und wer soll jetzt Mido mit Flanken füttern? Leider sind gerade die Lennons große Schwäche.

Insgesamt wird das eine Saison der Wahrheit. Die Mannschaft erscheint mir äußerst unausgewogen. YPL, Chimbonda und scheinbar auch BAE sind gute, offensive AVs, aber leider haben sie in der Defensive Schwächen.

Das Mittelfeld erzeugt im Zentrum keine Kreativität, aber auch das Flügelspiel ist leicht zu unterbinden, weil wir einfach nur einen rechten Flügel haben.

Der Sturm ist hingegen einer Mannschaft mit CL- und Cup-Ambitionen würdig, aber wer soll die Stürmer füttern, damit sie für Tore und für die benötigten, vielen Saisonspiele sorgen können?

Wenn wir die Spiele gegen ManU und Pool vergeigen, schauts jetzt schon schlecht aus.

Aber wer weiß, vielleicht kann die Mannschaft ja doch auf dem Sheffield-Spiel aufbauen, sich finden, auf einen guten Tabellenplatz vorstossen, und im Winter kommt dann ein guter LM, mit dem wir nochmal richtig angreifen können.

Ledley King believes his absence from the team did not prove to be an issue due to the performances of his deputy Calum Davenport.

The skipper - who is hoping to be declared fit to return against Manchester United on Saturday - has been impressed with the impact made by the talented 23-year-old in both pre-season and the three Premiership encounters so far.

He pointed to the likes of Calum being able to take the step up as evidence of the strength in depth currently in the squad.

"There is no problem there," said Ledley. "Anthony was filling in last season and now Calum has taken his chance and has done well. He's not had a lot of experience in the Premier League so it makes it more of an achievement for him.

"It shows we have got strength in that area and others.
