Goalie injured after tripping on Palin carpet

ST. LOUIS (AP)—St. Louis Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with an injury that might have occurred when he tripped over the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The Alaska governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings. A narrow carpet walkway was placed from the gate at the Blues bench for Palin, her husband and two of her daughters to walk to center ice.

Just before the ceremony, Legace was the first player onto the ice for St. Louis. A team official pointed to the carpet, but as Legace stepped onto it with his skate, he fell, then gingerly made his way to the crease.

After that, the team official rolled up enough of the carpet so other players wouldn’t have to step on it.

Legace played one period, giving up two goals on 12 shots. After the intermission, the team said he suffered a “lower body” injury but did not elaborate. He was replaced by Ben Bishop, making his NHL debut.

Rule 45 Broken Stick

A broken stick is one which, in the opinion of the Referee, is unfit for normal play.

1. A player without a stick may participate in the game. A player whose stick is broken may participate in the game provided he drops the broken stick. A minor penalty shall be imposed for an infraction of this Rule.

2. A goalkeeper may continue to play with a broken stick until a stoppage of play or until he has one legally handed to him by a teammate.

3. A player who has lost or broken his stick may only receive a stick at his own players' bench or be handed one from a teammate on the ice. A minor penalty shall be imposed for an infraction of this Rule.

oder das, ich habs ja nicht gesehen: (NOTE) A player tendered a stick thrown on the ice from the players' or penalty bench will not receive a penalty. However, the person responsible for throwing the stick will receive the penalty, as covered in Rule 41(k) -- Abuse of Officials and Other Misconduct and Rule 67(g)(h)(i) -- Interference.

4. A goalkeeper whose stick is broken or illegal may not go to the players' bench for a replacement but must receive his stick from a teammate.

For an infraction of this Rule, a minor penalty shall be imposed on the goalkeeper.

kurz: sobald ein Stick bricht und du ihn nicht umgehend fallen lässt (Verletzungsgefahr etc) bekommst einen penalty.
