Gut, für insgesamt etwa 30 Minuten haben wir wieder scheiße ausgesehen, aber abgesehen davon ein gutes Spiel und ein tolles Resultat.

Spurs play out season so far in one match

After a comprehensive victory made it five wins out of five in Europe on Thursday, White Hart Lane hosted 90 minutes of league football that told us everything we need to know about the side this term.

In the first couple of minutes some excellent interplay saw Spurs split open the visiting defence with poise and style. However, early optimism made way for a first twenty minutes much like the start of our league campaign this season. It was a let down. The win seemed to be taken for granted and the men in White shirts casually defended lob after lob after lob.

When Wigan eventually scored from just such a ball it was hardly surprising. The composed finish made it an excellent goal, but with so little resistance it was only a matter of time before Robinson was beaten.

The key trouble for Spurs was that every time they went forward they either hit a wall of blue shirted defenders, or were called off-side by a linesman desperate to wave his little flag at every opportunity.

As strikers grew angry at the official, the fans grew angry at the players. Malbranque, nominally playing on the left of midfield, kept drifting to the centre. He used the ball well when he had it, but with everyone playing on the right half of the pitch it was easy for Wigan to crowd moves out.

Then something important happened. Left back Assou-Ekotto went up field. He filled the left hand void and drew people out towards him. Lennon stayed wide on the right and two defenders stayed near him. This meant there was space in the middle for the first time. Malbranque used it well to work a shot, and when that was saved Defoe nearly scored the rebound.

That instant changed the game, showing the solution to almost all of our problems this year. Assou-Ekotto kept driving forward and whenever the left opened up, some one tried to fill the space. It paid off beautifully.

Then a Berbatov pass down the left flank found Defoe who turned 360 degrees to leave the last defender for dead. He drilled home left footed and celebrated long and hard.

Those goals came two minutes apart and summed up just how good Spurs could be. Fantastic runs into space, well played passes, sublime control, and composure in spades.

So why wait so long before doing it? Just like the season as a whole, no one was quite sure.

When the second half started, despite a good early spell, the side fell back on bad habits. We abandoned the left flank again and we came up against a seemingly impenetrable defence as a result.

Meanwhile, Wigan got dirty. They flew into some nasty tackles and they picked up some yellow cards. Emile Heskey elbowed people in the face and dived a lot. And just as the fans are not quite sure how we had only one defeat in our last 14 games, we were never quite sure how the lads kept their noses in front.

A number of corners and often dubious free-kicks peppered the Spurs box but Robinson and the defence coped well to keep Wigan at bay.

Then, as a reminder of our striker conundrum, Keane came on for Defoe and played a part in nearly doubling the goal tally right at the death.

A couple of minutes from the end he latched on to, yep, a ball down the left flank. He turned inside and curled a stunning shot inches wide of the far post.

Then, a couple of minutes into injury time it happened again. Assou-Ekotto tackled well and played a ball down the, you’ve guessed it, left hand side and found Berbatov. He went deep and as Keane peeled away taking defenders with him. Lennon drifted into the space in the middle and tapped home the Bulgarian’s cross.

So, the 21st game of the season taught us some things. We learned that Spurs can be excellent, that the players can do the sublime, and that we are spoiled for choice up front. We learned that our defence is normally pretty capable, our keeper can make good saves, and that Assou-Ekotto is the best left back we have had in a long time, though that doesn’t ask much.

On the flip side we learned that we want for a line hugging left winger, that we sometimes fail to perform to our potential, and that we need to stop under-estimating mid table opponents. We also learned that despite every player playing well at times, we often fail to turn that into a good team performance.

Now, hands up anyone that didn’t learn those things from the first 20 matches this season.

Maierhofer ist ja schon 24 und spielt bloß Regionalliga. Somit ist er für die Akademie zu alt und für die Reserve wohl nicht gut genug, immerhin netzt dort Lee Barnard schon seit Längerem am laufenden Band und sogar der wird es wohl nie zu einem guten PL-Spieler schaffen.

Die Reserve hab ich nur zweimal gesehen und Maierhofer noch nie, aber ich denke, dass auch Yeates, Pekhart und Barcham talentierter sind als er, und deutlich jünger sowieso.

Von daher halt ich dieses Gerücht für Blödsinn.

Ja, bei Ebay sinds halt meistens asiatische Fälschungen. Obwohl, schlechter kann deren Qualität auch nicht sein. Vor Allem mit dem dritten Leiberl gabs bei Puma massive Probleme, und mittlerweile dürfte die Produktion aller Dressen eingestellt worden sein, wenn ich mich recht erinnere. Puma sagt, sie hätten Probleme bei der Produktion.

Auch, wenn ich mir sicher bin, dass der Klub Schadenersatz für entgangene zukünftige Dressenverkäufe bekommt, eine ärgerliche Sache. Mein Wunschleiberl kann ich mir jetzt aufzeichnen.

Und ich hab geglaubt, Kappa wär scheiße.

Gutes Los:

Zuerst die Revanche gegen Feyernoord mit ihrem lustigen Antisemiten-Pseudo-Neonazi-Anhang, dann mit Braga/Parma eine verhältnismäßig einfache Aufgabe.

Dank Jol und Ghaly werden uns die Holländer nicht überraschen können, jetzt heißt es nur, sie auch zu biegen.

Klasse Partie gegen Bukarest, sieht man von den letzten Minuten ab, in denen man nur mehr mit halbem Einsatz agiert hat. Natürlich gabs deshalb gleich wieder einen Gegentreffer. Davenport, der denselben Gegenspieler gedeckt hat wie Dawson, anstatt sich auf seinen Mann zu konzentrieren, sollte man dafür aber nicht die Schuld geben, immerhin hat die ganze Mannschaft das Spiel dahinplätschern lassen, was bei der absoluten Dominanz der vorigen Minuten und der 3:0 Führung aber (ausnahmsweise! ) verständlich war. Zudem hatte er kurz davor zweimal die Möglichkeit aufs 4:0.

Kann die Mannschaft gegen City ihre beeindruckende Heimform endlich auch in den Auswärtsspielen aufrufen, sind wir voll auf Kurs.

Irgendwann müssen wir gegen einen Großen spielen (nachdem Leverkusen und Besiktas gezeigt haben, dass sie das nicht sind), also warum nicht gleich jetzt?

Auf dem Pokal steht soooooo groß "Tottenham Hotspur F.C.", also her damit!

Newcastle hat einen guten Lauf. Zeit, dass das jemand ändert. Insgeheim wäre ich ja mit einem Unentschieden hochzufrieden, aber natürlich gibts nichts anderes als einen Auswärtssieg, wenn man sogar das große Southend biegen kann.

Aaron Lennon remains out for the trip to Newcastle on Saturday and Martin Jol’s preparations have been hit by a couple more injuries.

Winger Aaron hasn’t yet recovered from a slight inflammation on his knee that kept him out of the games against Manchester City and Southend.

He’s joined on the sidelines by Teemu Tainio, who picked up an ankle knock against Southend while both Paul Stalteri (knee) and Edgar Davids (ill) are struggling. Robbie Keane (knee) and Jermaine Jenas (ankle) remain out although better news sees Didier Zokora available after suspension.

Martin reported on Friday: “Aaron is still out as he is not 100 per cent yet, Edgar Davids is ill, Teemu Tainio has twisted his ankle and will be out for the next two weeks, Paul Stalteri has picked up a knee injury, Robbie is still out with his knee injury – that will probably be another three weeks – and Jermaine Jenas is still out.

“Michael Dawson hurt his shoulder against Southend but he is in the squad and is fit for selection.”

Jermain Defoe made it 11 goals in ten starts with his double strike that secured a 2-1 Boxing Day victory over Aston Villa .

The little hitman pounced twice in the second half and on both occasions his partner in attack can claim an assist as three Christmas points were banked at the Lane.

The team was the one that was supposed to start up at Newcastle on Saturday - only Defoe, thankfully, made it this time after picking up an injury in the warm-up at St James Park.

Defoe was looking menacing right from the opening seconds of the game, although it was a

momentary lapse by Michael Dawson that let Gabriel Agbonlahor through on goal - an opening

sealed and foiled by Ledley King.

There followed a succession of half-chances or moves that would have been hugely promising if

the final ball had a little more purpose. Tom Huddlestone, however, seriously stretched Gabor

Kiraly on 17 minutes when his piledriver required the fingertips of the Hungarian goalkeeper to

tip the ball over the bar.

Paul Robinson fielded well from a long-range Craig Gardner effort, before a Dimitar Berbatov

surge into the area was thwarted by Kiraly, leaving Mellberg injured and Aaron Hughes departing

the pitch on a stretcher. Five minutes later Defoe stole away from his marker and unleashed a

goalbound shot that was diverted off course by the backside of the recovered Mellberg.

Defoe then shot across the face of goal after good work and link play from strike partner

Berbatov. It was a pretty absorbing first half featuring lots of home pressure, but strangely

little in terms of really clear cut chances or efforts that make goalkeepers work. On the

stroke of half-time Berbatov worked the leg of Kiraly, one which unfortunately sent his shot

the wrong side of the post.

The second period began in much the same fashion as the first ended, the tempo was quick,

although Villa were contributing a bit more to the contest - having made two changes and used

up their subs at the interval.

A Huddlestone chip forward brilliantly picked out the run of Defoe on 54 minutes and it was

only a stray touch from the striker that offered Kiraly the chance to come out and snatch the

ball.

The breakthrough came on 57 minutes when Berbatov threaded the ball into the path of his

forward thinking strike partner who had dashed into the area and shot across Kiraly and into

the bottom right hand corner.

Danny Murphy was introduced with just over 20 minutes remaining in place of Hossam Ghaly

Our lethal weapons in attack combined again with 76 minutes on the clock and made the most of a

Robinson clearance to the delight of the vast majority of the 35,293 in attendance.

Berbatov connected with the punt downfield and steered the ball in the direction of Defoe, who

took it on before thumping past a despairing Kiraly. The delight was tempered five minutes

later when Gareth Barry resisted challenges inside our area to slot past Robinson to reduce the

deficit - just when we were thinking we could relax and enjoy the last ten minutes!

Defoe then should have bagged his hat-trick at the other end but, after jinking free of his markers, shot into the legs of Kiraly. He was given a rest with two minutes left on the clock as we sought to seal the game, a requirement that was duly achieved.

Heute ein extrem wichtiges Match und wir kommen mit dem B-Team. Wieviele Verletzte kann man eigentlich haben. Keane kaputt, Jenas kaputt, Lennon kaputt, Mido kaputt....

Trotzdem, die Mannschaft ist trotz Verletzungspech in Hochform, Liverpool spielte zuletzt auswärts grauenhaften Fußball und Defoe ist in Hochform. Ein Dreier und das Team spielt um Platz 3.

Der Kaiser hat übrigens bis 2011 verlängert.
