Der ist erst kürzlich im Spiel der Reserven aufgelaufen. Geholfen hats den Hammers nichts, aber Sheringham an der Lane, das hat halt nostalgischen Wert.

Gegen Pompey zu gewinnen ist ja schon mal nicht schlecht. Die erste Hälfte haben wir sogar ziemlich gut gespielt, danach wars leider wieder die momentan übliche Magerkost.

Zokoras Leistungskurve steigt deutlich an, er gefällt mir immer besser, allerdings war das heute wohl schon die dritte Schwalbe in dieser Saison, diesmal auch noch im Strafraum und mit Elfmeter belohnt.

Einfach eine Schande!

Ich hoffe nach wie vor, dass ihm Jol, Hughton oder die Reaktion der Fans diesen Blödsinn binnen der nächsten paar Monate austreiben. Mit solchen Aktionen folgt er dem Arsene Wenger Way und nicht dem Bill Nicholson Way.

Wenn er sich nach Weihnachten immer noch ständig hinlegt, soll er sich gleich wieder schleichen, egal wie gut er ist.

Hoffentlich fällt Chimbonda nicht länger aus. Zumindest hat er sich in einem Bewerbsspiel verletzt und nicht, wie bei uns üblich, beim Training.

The deal will see Oscar join us on January 1, 2007.

Oscar impressed on duty for Sweden Under-16s in the Nordic Cup this year and was in Under-17 squad for the UEFA European U17 Championship qualifying against Austria, Greece and Liechtenstein earlier this month.

Schön langsam frag ich mich wer im linken Mittelfeld spielen soll. Teemu ist jetzt ca. 1 Monat außer Gefecht. So eine Gaudi, mit Jenas jetzt dort.

Erinnerungen an 1984 werden wieder wach. Ein wirklich beeindruckende Leistung des Teams, Berbatov ist gottseidank wieder fit und Ghaly, von vielen schon als Fehleinkauf abgestempelt, erzielt ein wichtiges Tor. Ein nichtgegebener Elfer und ein Lattenschuss zeigten deutlichst die Überlegenheit des Teams. Lennon durfte für einige Minuten ran, Ziegler auch (vielleicht mangels Alternativen ) sowie Defoe.

Martin Jol was a happy man after we opened up the group stage of the UEFA Cup with a convincing victory over Besiktas in Istanbul on Thursday night.

The dominant force from start to finish, a goal in each half from Hossam Ghaly and Dimitar Berbatov secured a deserved win

"We are very satisfied with the three points," declared Martin. "It was a great experience for us with such a fanatical crowd. We said beforehand that we had to enjoy it, that was the main thing, to get a result and fight for every yard.

"We started off well, controlled the first half - that is always important - but we couldn't score more than one goal and that is always difficult against someone like Besiktas.

"Dimitar Berbatov then showed his extra quality, we scored the second goal at the right moment and then had three or four chances after that.

"Don't forget that we had to re-organise in midfield because we lost Didier Zokora late with a fever, but Tom Huddlestone came in and had a very good game together with Jermaine Jenas.

"I thought Hossam Ghaly was excellent in the first half, the defence was excellent and we were too strong to concede goals. I was happy with the team performance.

"If you go into Europe you would always say that a draw is a satisfactory result, Turkey is a strong league, the crowd was second to none - taking all that into account, we kept our heads cool and motivated to have a very good result."

PROUD OF THE LADS

Robbie Keane said he is proud of the performance that saw the team overcome Besiktas by a two-goal margin in Istanbul.

Goals from Hossam Ghaly and Dimitar Berbatov sealed the three points in our opening UEFA Cup Group B encounter and it was the manner and style of the display that so pleased Robbie.

"I am very proud," said the striker who partnered Berbatov in attack. "We knew before the game that it would be difficult, they are a good side and the crowd, I have to say, were something else - even when they were getting beat. Clapping us off after the game was really good of them.

"The lads were brilliant and I think we dominated the game. That is the way we like to play football and if we continue to play the way we did here we've got every chance of getting back to our best," reasoned Robbie, who reserved a special mention for the scorer of the first goal.

"I am happy for Hossam. He has been playing well and deserved that goal for his work ethic. It came at a good time and in the second half we could have had a few more, but we've got the three points and that is the most important thing.

"Hossam is a good player, he's got a great engine and is a good footballer. He showed that here and is staking his claim for a regular place."

It is West Ham next at the Lane on Sunday as we bounce from one big match to another.

"It will be a tough game, they are not doing as well as they would like and we know that can make it difficult. It is a game all the lads are looking forward to."

NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Danny Murphy has played on a number of memorable nights in European competition and believes he has just taken part in another against Besiktas.

"It is about consistency and if we don't get a good result on Sunday it will take the shine off this one."The team put on a fantastic display in Istanbul to get our UEFA Cup Group B campaign off to a winning start with Danny once again pulling the strings from the left hand side of midfield.

"It will be one to remember and it was a top performance against a good side," said the former Liverpool man and UEFA Cup winner. "We'd watched them quite a lot beforehand on video and realised they have some quality players.

"Having played over here before I knew how difficult is and nothing should be taken away from the quality of that performance because if we had won by three or four nobody could have complained.

"Everyone to a man played well, everyone played near enough to their capabilities and, as I said, we could have won by more," he reasoned, before giving his take on the reception given to the team by the home fans afterwards at the Inonu Stadium.

"It is very rare for that to happen and that is credit to their supporters who kept going throughout. They then still had the humility to clap us off at the end, which says a lot for them and a lot for our performance."

It is straight into preparations for West Ham on Sunday now and Danny suspects this win will increase the belief in the side for the challenges ahead.

"It is about consistency and if we don't get a good result on Sunday it will take the shine off this one. What this definitely does is increase our confidence and gives us a nice foundation for the forthcoming games.

"We haven't been beaten now since the Liverpool game, we've played some good football in the last couple of games and here was probably the best 90 minutes we've played in a while."
