Rho in Other Uses

The assignment of standard variables tends to be specific to a particular scientific discipline, because there are many more variables than letters in the Roman and Greek alphabets. The choice of rho for density started with one person for some unknown reason, and others accepted it as the standard. It may be because it followed pi, which had just been chosen by Jones before Pascal's discovery. It may have been a subtle homage to Pascal, since Greek rho looks like Roman P. Other disciplines use rho for resistivity (electronics), correlation coefficient (statistics), interest rate sensitivity (finance), and radius in 3-dimensional coordinate systems.
