Nach dem Umfrage-Ergenis scheint es ja sehr vielen Nordamerikanern egal zu sein, ob in einer ihrer - angeblichen - Nationalsportarten eine Meisterschaft ausgetragen wird.

Deshalb werfe ich hier einfach mal so die Frage ein: Wieso diskutiert man in Europa so leidenschaftlich über eine Sportart/Meisterschaft, die in der Region, in der sie statt findet, anscheinend keinen mehr interessiert?

So eine Umfrage in den USA so kurz vor der Super Bowl ist schon mal ein Scherz.

Nationalsportart ist Hockey eigentlich nur in Kanada (und dort nicht nur Nationalsportart, sondern Teil der Identitaet des Landes, aber das weiss thedragonlord sicher alles), in den USA hast du staatenweise aehnliches Interesse (Minnesota, Michigan, New York, fast ganz New England, Colorado, Wisconsin), aber mit den 3 anderen grossen Ligen sicher nicht zu vergleichen.

Wahrscheinlich wuerd selbst in Kanada ein ueberraschend niedriges Ergebnis rauskommen, ist ja auch kein Wunder - die, die es interessiert, sind hoechst frustriert, und eine JETZT noch beginnende Saison haette auch schon reduzierten sportlichen Wert.

Also keine dumm-provokativen Schnellschuesse bitte.

NHL MAKES COMPROMISE OFFER

TORONTO (Feb. 9, 2005) - In a final effort to achieve a compromise between the NHL and the NHLPA, and commence playing hockey this season, the National Hockey League today made a CBA proposal to the NHL Players' Association. "We believe this proposal should form the basis for a fair agreement among the Players and the Clubs," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

Under the terms of this proposal, the NHL is prepared to accept the NHLPA's December 9, 2004 Payroll Tax proposal, with certain exceptions, provided that the terms of the CBA will automatically and immediately convert to those contemplated in the League's February 2, 2005 proposal, in the event certain economic and competitive conditions referred to below occur during the term of the proposed CBA.

Any one of four economic and competitive conditions would "trigger" conversion to the terms outlined in the NHL's February 2, 2005 proposal:

- League-wide Player Compensation exceeds 55 percent of League-wide hockey revenues; or

- The average of Club Payroll for highest three Payroll Clubs in the League is more than 33 percent higher than the average of Club Payroll for the lowest three Payroll Clubs in the League; or

- any three Clubs each have Club Player Compensation in excess of $42 million; or League-wide average Player Compensation per Club exceeds $36.5 million.

Upon conversion, the terms of the NHL's February 2, 2005 proposal would become effective, and would be the governing terms of the CBA -- replacing the terms of the NHLPA's December 9, 2004 proposal -- and any "excess" payments made by the Clubs to the Players would be recouped.

Commissioner Gary Bettman hat fuer Mittwoch, 16.2., eine Pressekonferenz in New York angekuendigt. Alles andere als die offizielle Absage einer laengst gestorbenen NHL-Saison waere keine Ueberraschung, sondern eine wahre Sensation.

Wuerde ich diesbezueglich die Worte benutzen, die mir auf der Zunge liegen, wuerde ich mir wahrscheinlich eine lebenslange Sperre im ASB einhandeln.

ich hab auf sport1 glaub ich wars, ein interview gelesen, wo der lemieux gemeint hat, daß er sich ein antreten vorstellen kann-kanada wird seinen superstars sicher nicht verbieten mitzuspielen, wenn sie wollen,wäre ja majestätsbeleidigung....

aber unser experte an der quelle soll uns wirklich aufschluß geben........

Der kanadische Verband hat bereits vor laengerer Zeit angekuendigt, selbst im Falle einer Absage der diesjaehrigen NHL-Saison nicht auf das komplette zur Verfuegung stehende Spielermaterial zurueckzugreifen. Es wird allerdings nicht grundsaetzlich auf NHL-Spieler verzichtet (wurde die letzten WM's ja auch nicht) - allerdings wird der Verband sehr wohl beruecksichtigen, wer auch "ueblicherweise" immer fuer das Nationalteam zur Verfuegung steht (es werden ja meistens wesentlich mehr Spieler aus Nicht-Playoff-Teams "eingeladen", als dann tatsaechlich zusagen, und viele Spieler zeigen normalerweise wenig Lust, bei der WM zu spielen) - d.h., es werden nicht die absolut Besten einberufen, sondern die absolut Besten derer, die auch normalerweise ein Herz fuer das Nationalteam zeigen.

Der Fall Lemieux ist was besonderes - als Aktiver meist ohnehin im Playoff aktiv, dann lange krank, und bei Olympia trotz nagender Hueftverletzung Kapitaen und Leitwolf. Den wird sicher niemand ablehnen.

Und ich will ja jetzt niemanden verarschen, aber die NHL ist seit gestern Abend prominent in allen Nachrichten:

Gestuetzt auf einen Bericht von The Hockey News soll angeblich, angetrieben von Wayne Gretzky und Mario Lemieux, und in Abwesenheit von Commissioner Gary Bettman und Kontrapart Bob Goodenow, eine Einigung zwischen NHL und NHLPA kurz bevorstehen und "unvermeidbar" sein.

Diese Meldung wurde inzwischen von diversen Sendern, Internetseiten etc. uebernommen.

Das letzte Angebot der Liga war ein 42.5 Mio $ Salary Cap, die Spieler haetten einem 49-Mio.-Cap zugestimmt. ANgeblich war eine Einigung bei 45 Mio. und wenigen Modifikationen vor ein paar Tagen kurz bevorgestanden, und keiner machte den letzten Schritt. Auf Vermittlung von Gretzky und Lemieux findet heute in New York ein (von beiden Seiten dementiertes) Treffen statt, das seit 9 Uhr am Laufen ist. Laut der (zweifelhaften) Quelle von 2 involvierten Spielern, die nicht genannt werden moechten: "The players are already tying their boots. An agreement is imminent."

Vor drei Tagen wurde die Saison von Gary Bettman offiziell abgesagt, und angeblich waeren beide Seiten noch "ready to un-cancel the season".

Ich werde berichten, sobald was Neues kommt.

SO MUCH FOR A "DEAL IN PRINCIPLE".

4:50 PM EST: TSN's Bob McKenzie reports the meeting broke up a short while ago, and after 6 1/2 hours, there was no progress and a source told McKenzie the situation was "not good". McKenzie reports no new talks are planned (although we've heard that old chestnut before).

Sportsnet's news is far more grim: Bill Daly told them "it is now too late for a season and the focus will shift to getting a deal done ASAP and preparing to come back as strong as possible next year."

Looks like there's a limit to what the Great One and Super Mario can do.

At this point, I think most fans probably don't care if there's a deal or not to save this season. As long as they can get that deal done "ASAP" in time to prepare for next season, fine, but JUST GET IT DONE, YOU ASSCLOWNS!

Sorry for the frustration seeping through, folks, but I'm fed up with all this nonsense. Talks that go nowhere. Rumoured deals that never come to pass. Promising words that turn to acrimony. I'm fed up with it and I think I speak for most of you out there.

Anyway, that's enough for today. I'm gonna go unwind and look forward to starting fresh tomorrow, when we'll undoubtedly hear the true reasons why yet another deal that was supposedly close to reality wound up falling through once again.

NEW YORK (February 19, 2005) -- Representatives of the NHL and NHLPA met for approximately 6-1/2 hours today to discuss collective bargaining matters but made no progress toward a new agreement.

Yes, we at the NHL and NHLPA stupidly thought we could raise the dead by working out a deal to resurrect the cancelled 2004-05 season. Unfortunately, the hype of today's meeting got away from us and a lot of people got their hopes unnecessarily raised again. Our bad.

No further talks are scheduled.

No really, we mean it this time...

The League was represented by Bill Daly, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer; Wayne Gretzky, Managing Partner, Phoenix Coyotes; Mario Lemieux and outside counsel Bob Batterman. The NHLPA was represented by Ted Saskin, Senior Director; Trevor Linden, NHLPA president; Vincent Damphousse of the Colorado Avalanche; Mike Gartner, Director of Business Relations, and outside counsel John McCambridge.

Following the meeting, Bill Daly released the following statement:

"We met for six hours today in New York to further explore the

possibility of reaching a new Agreement with the Players' Association.

Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux joined and participated in today's meeting, at the request of the Union. We talked through the parties' respective positions on the numerous elements that would be involved in designing a new salary cap-based system. The talks were cordial and informative, but revealed that there remain significant differences that need to be discussed and resolved by the parties. No new proposals were made by either side. While no new meetings are scheduled, we remain committed to continue working through the process until a new Agreement can be reached."

"We spent six hours eating catered pastry and using up hotel conference room space to arrive back at the same square one we were at on Wednesday when the commissioner cancelled the season. But at least we were nice to each other while we were discovering our vast differences."

Wayne Gretzky made the following statement:

"Mario and I were happy to be part of the process and everyone seemed to work very hard together. We had a constructive meeting and we only hope they will continue meeting for the betterment of the NHL and its fans."

No offence, Wayne, I'm sure you guys did try to work hard at resolving this, but come on, don't insult our intelligence by claiming this was a "constructive" meeting. Did you guys get a deal in place? No? Then it wasn't constructive, then. If you guys are still as far apart as you were prior to when you started today's meeting, it wasn't constructive, despite how civil everyone was toward each other.

Mario Lemieux made the following statement:

"I hope all parties continue talking and come to a solution for the

betterment of the game. I certainly appreciate the work Gary and Bill have done a lot more, now that I have been part of one of these sessions."

I'm glad you can appreciate their work, Mario. As for myself, I don't appreciate how these two have contributed to the downfall of a once-great sports league.

Der Lockout in der stärksten Eishockey-Liga der Welt steht offenbar vor dem Ende. Es scheint als hätten sich NHL und Spielergewerkschaft NHLPA auf eine neue Gehalts-Vereinbarung geeinigt.

Sollten die zehn stärksten Mitglieder des NHL-Exekutivkomitees am Montag und anschließend die Spielervertreter die Verhandlungs-Ergebnisse bestätigen, könnte die Saison 2005/06 wie geplant im Oktober beginnen.

Der neue Vertrag sieht eine Limitierung der Spielergehälter auf 54 Prozent der Liga-Einnahmen vor.
