Mhm, theoretisch schon: 0-5 seit seinem Comeback. Hab nur die beiden Matches gegen Atlanta (teilweise) gesehen, daher kann ich nicht sagen ob es einen direkten Zusammenhang gibt.

Es wurde vor seinem Comeback viel spekuliert, wo man ihn am besten wieder reingibt, da die Linien in seiner Abwesenheit eigentlich gut funktionierten. In seinem ersten Spiel war er anfangs der Center der 4.Linie (!), war aber schnell wieder zurück in der Topformation. Die Leafs hatten in den letzten 3 Spielen jeweils die Führung im Schlußdrittel inne und haben es alle 3 Male vergeigt. Das ist schwerlich Sundin anzulasten.

Scheint für mich eher so, als ob nach sehr diszipliniertem Start einige "alte" Fehler und Faulheiten zurückkommen. Problem ist, daß die Leafs dieses Jahr nur dann was reißen werden, wenn sie mehr arbeiten als ihr Gegner, denn pures Talent ist eher spärlich gesät.

Ich hoffe allerdings, daß mit Veteranen wie Sundin und Peca bald ein Weg aus der Krise gefunden wird. Maurice ist sicherlich ein sehr guter Coach und wird mit den Leafs seinen Weg machen. Einige junge Verteidiger haben einen kleinen Einbruch erlitten, z.B. Bell und Ian White. White hat in den letzten Spielen 3 Strafen wegen delay of game zu Buche stehen, weil er den Puck übers Plexiglas befördert hat. Mit Lernprozessen der jungen Spieler müssen die Leafs leider leben.

Hm ich war mir 100% sicher dass der Kommentator davon sprach. Hab ich mich aber dann wohl getäuscht. Verfolge die NHL auch erst seit 2-3 Jahren regelmäßig.

BELFOUR, ROBERTS TURN ON LEAFS

What might constitute Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment's worst nightmare? An honest politician? Demanding fans? Tim Lai actually making the soccer team?

How about watching Ed Belfour – a guy they paid to go away – returning and stoning the Leafs when it mattered in a 7-3 blowout, with another Toronto discard, Gary Roberts, scoring twice as best forward on the ice? If that's not scary enough, how about Andrew Raycroft, Belfour's replacement in whom the Leafs have invested so much hope, being roughed up for six goals on 26 shots before being excused after two periods.

The fans turned on Raycroft, sounding sarcastic cheers when he stopped an easy long-distance shot and loudly welcoming the announcement that Jean-Sebastien Aubin was in the house. This wasn't Raycroft's fault – the defence gift-wrapped several great chances for the Panthers – but the customers cut him no slack. "It doesn't matter where you play, it's going to be that way,'' said Belfour, who heard occasional abuse in his days here. "The fans are going to be emotional and boo you once in a while and you've got to have a thick skin.'' Maybe you could see this one coming. The Leafs were coming off a nine-goal laugher against the Rangers, their third consecutive win. Plus, the Panthers are bottom-feeders easy to take lightly, even with a goalie just itching to stick it down everyone's throat (if not up somewhere else).

The Leafs scored a soft goal, by Jeff O'Neill, on their first shot, but couldn't pad the edge on three consecutive power plays. Belfour, who three times poke-checked Mats Sundin successfully in close, also got across to stop Darcy Tucker on the back-door play when it was a game. "We didn't have a very good (first) period and we were up 3-1 because of the way Eddie played,'' Roberts opined. "It could easily have been 3-1 for Toronto.''

Well, yes and no. The Leaf defence was pathetically generous, handling the puck like it was a hooded cobra. Hal Gill gifted the Floridians with two chances they cashed, the first in the dying seconds of the first period that sent Ville Peltonen in alone for the 3-1 goal. Only 28 seconds into the second period, Gill's cross-ice pass put Roberts in the clear to bury a slapshot for 4-1.

Belfour drew mixed greetings, curious since he played well here and didn't leave of his own accord. The Leafs, who signed him to a big contract when they failed to see a salary cap coming, paid him $1.5 million (U.S.) to walk. Belfour, who said all the right things about wanting to play well against his former team and so on, brought to a head a Toronto goaltending situation different than it has been in years. To wit: When was the last time the Leafs lacked a clear-cut No. 1 goalie they could rely on to steal them points they didn't deserve? Raycroft has been a serviceable No. 1, but can anyone remember a game when he purloined two points while the team was sorely lacking? That kind of thing happened regularly in the Curtis Joseph era and in the beginning of the Belfour years. Going back, Felix Potvin and, before him, Grant Fuhr had those moments, too.

Raycroft, who makes good saves but lets in bad goals, has held his team in games this season when it was being outplayed, but that's not quite the same as flat-out swiping an undeserved win. The cold numbers on Leaf goalies are weak. They ranked 24th in the NHL at 3.19 goals-against before this one, a lot closer to the worst (Philadelphia, 3.77) than the best (San Jose, 2.14). Belfour and partner Alex Auld were three spots ahead at 3.13. The Leafs' save percentage was a 25th-best .889. Maybe not a nightmare, but not good enough, either.
