die habs gewinnen am ende völlig verdient mit 5:4 - gedreht haben sie die partie im letzten drittel etwa 5min vor dem ende, aber sowohl chancen als auch spielanteile waren definitiv mehr von den canadians vorhanden, daher geht der sieg vollkommen in ordnung. der start mit 3 auswärtssiegen in folge ist einer der besten seit langen!

Nachteil wenn man sich ein Spiel vom Bett aus ansieht - die Gefahr ist relativ hoch, dass man irgendwann einschläft. So passiert beim Stande von 4-3 für die Leafs. x/

Schade, dass es nicht zum Sieg gereicht hat, aber alles in allem war der Sieg für die Canadiens verdient.

Wir schießen unsere Tore immer im Minutenrhythmus mit langen schöpferischen Pausen dazwischen.

Na ja, hab gestern noch länger in die Nacht gearbeitet und bin bei 2:4 schlafengegangen, insofern ist der eine Punkt doch erfreulich. Daß wir den gsch**** Sens 2x den Extrapunkt im Penaltyschießen überlassen haben, ärgert mich dennoch. So billig waren Punkte noch nie.

Eine tolle Idee, dieses Penaltyschießen. Das richtige Mittel, um über Playoffplätze zu entscheiden. (Ja, ich würde es auch hassen, wenn die Leafs es gewonnen hätten)

Antropov erneut mit einem Tor.

Mats' eye healing fast

(TORONTO) -- You could feel the collective weight lift off the shoulders of Leafs Nation after the Leafs buried two third period goals and held on for a 4-2 victory over the Philly Flyers, Tuesday night.

Now that 1-1-2 record looks a little different with two shoutout losses --essentially ties in the old NHL-- to the Ottawa Senators and loss to the Montreal Canadiens,  inwhich they held a late lead.

But what really should have things looking in the right direction is the health of superstar Captain Mats Sundin.

It turns out that he will not require surgery for the fractured orbital bone he suffered on Opening Night. His vision has even improved to a point where he has stopped taking the eye drops that were to help clear his vision. Pat Quinn was clearly elated with the news since he let it be known to the media after the win.

"Mats Sundin isn't expected to have surgery ... the fracture is not really displaced," Quinn said. "We didn't have a definite timeline (for him) because there was so many ifs. The optomistic people keep reminding us of how quickly Mats heals.

"So things are moving along in good order."

The big Swede has a history of returning from what appear to be long-term injuries in half the expected amount of downtime. It happened with his ankle a few years ago ... wrist injuries, cuts of all types ... you name it he has comeback early from it. So if Sundin can return anytime over the next couple weeks and his mates can maintain a .500 record, it would go along way to erasing the memories of three losses to start the season.

That would have those same fans who were jumping off the wagon last week, planning the parade by next, but that's the best part about being at the centre of hockey's universe.

Wellwood starting to find his groove - Kid Line remains just a possibility

Kyle Wellwood may ultimately force the Leafs into forming a line that currently exists in the imaginations of the club's fans. It would be a baby-faced line, Wellwood, 22, in between Matt Stajan and Alex Steen, both 21. The much-needed chemistry important for any forward trio seems to be built in with these three. Stajan picked up the assist on Wellwood's first career goal Tuesday, a connection that occurred only because they were on the ice at the same time due to an overlap in a line change.

"Kyle is such a creative player, he's great with the puck and he's hard to knock off the puck," Stajan said. "Welly (Wellwood) was in front of the net and I just fed him, and he went top cheese (top corner). It was pretty awesome."

The familiarity, nicknames and chemistry between the two extends from parallel careers that have seen Wellwood and Stajan play together with the Belleville Bulls, St. John's Maple Leafs and now at the NHL level in Toronto. Naturally, from a pair of kids who hang out and play video games together, there is plenty of camaraderie. Throw in the instant chemistry between Stajan and Steen during training camp, and the makings of a line appear evident.

Leafs coach Pat Quinn may yet give the trio a go. He spoke of the possibility before the season began but his current agenda contains more pressing problems than obliging a Kid Line fancy.

Wellwood, in fact, showed Tuesday that he is workable between Nik Antropov and Alex Ponikarovsky, the towering wingers who lost centre Mats Sundin to an eye injury. Antropov and Ponikarovsky, both 25, are at a key point in their careers — their fifth years in the NHL, where players are expected to step up to a higher level of production. The only other option for the lanky wingers was Eric Lindros, but that would have meant breaking up the decent working unit of Lindros, Chad Kilger and Tie Domi.

In the meantime, Wellwood, Stajan and Steen help the Leafs negotiate the new, salary cap economics in the NHL where developing youth replaces free agent spending as the method of choice to improve a team, as they transition from a veteran club that was built around Gary Roberts, Joe Nieuwendyk and Alex Mogilny. Wellwood, for one, appears to have a perfect attitude in facing the pressures of his first full-time days in the NHL. He never flinched during training camp when asked about the disappointment of being returned to the Marlies despite leading the Leafs in pre-season scoring. He quipped that he is "young," and has plenty of hockey in front of him.

In the dressing room after Tuesday's win, he joined in the commentary with Jeff O'Neill, Stajan and Andy Wozniewski, all of whom were watching the final outs of the American League Championship Series game between the Angels and White Sox. As he did on the ice, Wellwood fit right in.

The Leafs yesterday offered a perfect example of how they plan to take advantage of having their farm team in Toronto. Toronto demoted defenceman Andy Wozniewski, who hadn't played since theLeafs' home opener, and he played last night for the Marlies. He will be recalled this morning, practice with the Leafs and then join the NHL team on its trip to Atlanta for tomorrow night's game against the Thrashers.

Mats Watch

Mats Sundin macht Fortschritte, der Zeitpunkt seines Comebacks kann jedoch weiterhin nur geschätzt werden. An seinem linken Auge sieht er noch verschwommen.

Winger Mariusz Czerkawski war gegen Philly nur ein healthy scratch - man munkelt, seine Motivation läßt (wie auch früher oft schon) zu wünschen übrig.

Dafür überrascht Eric Lindros mit seinen Leistungen auch seine schärfsten Kritiker - er hat bisher voll eingeschlagen.

Die Toronto Marlies gewannen ihr allererstes Heimspiel gegen die Syracuse Crunch mit 5:2. Die Verteidiger Staffan Kronvall und Carlo Colaiacovo verbuchten jeweils 1 Tor und 1 Assist und wurden zum 1st bzw. 2nd star gewählt. Auch D Andy Wozniewski zeigte eine starke Leistung. Scheint so, als ob die Leafs hier erfolgreich eine Reihe junger Defender heranzüchten.

Für mich einer der besten Coups der Maple Leafs in der letzten Zeit war die Verpflichtung von Paul Maurice als Head Coach der Marlies - wohl einer der besten Coaches, speziell im Bereich Taktik/Spielsystem, in der NHL. Zum ersten Mal seit langer Zeit scheint das Farm-System der Leafs auf dem richtigen Weg.
