Spanish giants eye Abidal

Lyon full back Eric Abidal is reportedly emerging as a target for both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The highly-rated left footer has emerged as one of the leading defenders in Europe since his move to Lyon from Lille in 2004.

Chelsea, Milan and Real Betis all made enquiries last summer, but Lyon held firm.

However, despite having a contract until 2008, he could well be tempted away at the end of this season.

Both Real and Barca are now reported to have been alerted to Abidal's possible availability and could test Lyon's resolve in the coming months.

Abidal, who can play at full back or in the centre, will feature at the World Cup finals for France.
