Mista pens Che deal

Liverpool target Mista is staying put after signing a new contract with Valencia.

Mista appeared poised to leave the Spanish champions after repeatedly rejecting the offer of an extension at the Mestalla.

The 25-year-old was due to be out of contract at the end of the season and there were suggestions he could be sold in the New Year.

Valencia coach Claudio Ranieri has claimed Liverpool were interested in Mista, where the striker would have been reunited with former Che boss Rafa Benitez.

But the forward has now opted to pledge his future to the Liga outfit despite his lack of first team opportunities so far this season.

Mista was top scorer for the club last season but has been playing second fiddle to Marco Di Vaio during the opening months of the campaign.

He has not allowed that to affect his decision and has penned a deal to keep him at the Mestalla until the summer of 2010.

The club said on their official website: "The club and the player are both very satisfied that their wish to extend the deal has been realised."
