August 2004 Official: Villarreal Sign Diego Forlan 8/20/2004 6:55:00 PM Villarreal have signed Diego Forlan from Manchester United for the next five seasons. The Uruguayan international striker was reportedly going to remain with Man U after it was announced that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be out for the season with an injury. Forlan had been linked with loan moves to both Atletico Madrid and Liga-new boys Levante, but Villarreal emerged with a transfer offer that the Red Devils could simply not pass up. Villarreal will pay 3 million euros for the blonde bomber and that fee could increase depending on appearences.
