Claudio Lopez has played his last game for Lazio after reportedly joining Mexican side America.

Stories yesterday suggested that the move had collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree a deal.

However, talks seemingly continued and the Mexico City outfit have announced that the forward has been snapped up.

"Lopez is already a new America player," Vice-president Fernando Perez Gavilan is quoted as saying.

Details of the transfer have yet to be released but his departure will be a relief to new Lazio owner Claudio Lotito, who is aiming to lower the club’s wage bill.

Lopez leaves the capital club four years after moving to Serie A from Spanish giants Valencia.

The Argentine international played 106 League games for the Biancocelesti, scoring 29 goals in Serie A.

Lopez, who was recently linked with moves to Blackburn and Milan, will now be bossed by former Argentina international Oscar Ruggieri
