Es ist grad immer genug, um die Hoffnung nicht komplett aufgeben zu können....

Jetzt die beiden Spiele in Montreal, da müssen die Ergebnisse passen, sonst sind die Leafs weg vom Fenster.

Erfreulich jedenfalls, daß Tellqvist ansprechende Leistungen zeigt.

Hab ein paar Artikel gelesen, in denen gemeint wird, er erreiche die Mannschaft nicht mehr. Viele Routiniers, die scheinbar seine Vorgaben nicht umsetzen wollen. Angesichts der Ergebnisse ist die Kritik allerdings eher zahm.

Eingeschossen hat man sich (auch bzw. vor allem) auf GM John Ferguson Jr., und angesichts der Leafs-Taktik an der Trade Deadline ist das mMn auch nicht unberechtigt.

Fehler von mir, ich hab im Prinzip eh beide gemeint. Coaching ist nicht alles, vor allem bei den Transfers verhält man sich wie Inter im Fußball.

SEASON OVER FOR LEAF'S BELFOUR

Ed Belfour's season with the Toronto Maple Leafs is over. The Leafs placed Belfour on injured reserve Thursday, ending a disappointing campaign for the 40-year old netminder.

Earlier on Thursday, Belfour's agent said his client had medical advice not to play for the balance of this season because of problems with his bad back. "The doctors have told him that wouldn't be wise (to return this season), but it is his goal to get back playing again in the future." Belfour's agent Ron Salcer told TSN. "Eddie wants to continue playing (next season). He has a passion for the game. The doctors just don't think he should be playing at this point. He's going to work with the doctors to find out what his options are."

"That's a possibility, yes," Salcer said of surgery. "But there may be other options too. We'll have to wait and see." Belfour, who is making $4.56 million this season, last played in a shootout loss to the Islanders on March 10. He had a 22-22-4 record with a 3.29 goals-against average and .892 save percentage this season.

The Leafs rewarded him in July 2004 with a three-year deal, one which general manager John Ferguson Jr. found himself defending Thursday night. "Basing it on the most recent history prior to signing him, we're talking about a guy who led the NHL in regular season and playoffs in total shutouts before the lockout, he shut out Ottawa three times in the playoffs - the top scoring team in the league," said Ferguson. "He played 49 games this year. It's unfortunate for him. He needs to get some rest and get some treatment."

Mikael Tellqvist's first game as the undisputed starter on the Toronto Maple Leafs wasn't one to cherish. "I have to play better than this if we're going to win," a downcast Tellqvist said after Thursday night's 5-1 loss to the rival Montreal Canadiens.

Hours after learning Belfour was out for the season with a back injury, Tellqvist was pummelled with four first-period goals by the relentless Habs although he got very little help from his Maple Leaf teammates. "I feel terrible for him," said Leafs winger Darcy Tucker. "It's not an impressive way to play the game when we give up all those scoring chances in the first 10 minutes."

Tellqvist had gone 4-2-0 in his six previous starts in the place of the injured Belfour, but this was his first as the anointed No. 1. But it was 2-0 after less than four minutes in the biggest start of his NHL career. He didn't see a thing when Sheldon Souray blasted a point shot past him midway through the period to make it 3-0 and Alexei Kovalev beat him from a tough angle with a wrist shot at 17:56 to close out a nighmarish opening 20. "I'm disappointed, I'm not real happy with my performance, especially in the first period," Tellqvist said in a drearily quiet dressing room.

And it came in the first of two huge games in Montreal against the rival Habs, games that may make or break Toronto's season. The loss combined with Atlanta's win Thursday night meant the Leafs lost ground to both teams they're chasing to make the post-season, falling six points behind Atlanta for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and five points behind ninth-place Montreal. The New Jersey Devils moved seven points ahead of Toronto with an overtime point in the loss to Atlanta while Tampa Bay also won to move nine points ahead of the Leafs. "It doesn't matter what other teams do, we have to win, and I have to play better than this if we're going to make the playoffs," said Tellqvist.

Hoffentlich wird die Option auf ein weiteres Jahr Vertrag "ausgelöst" (Kosten 2 Mio. $). Würdige Verabschiedung von Eddie inklusive, aber dann den salary cap space sinnvoll nützen.

Genau da macht sich jeder Leafs-Fan berechtigterweise Sorgen. Ich glaub nicht dass man auf Tellqvist vertrauen wird, es wird wohl ein neuer Pseudo-Star fürs Tor kommen.

Die Bruins haben ihren GM entlassen, warum geht das bei den Leafs nicht? Vielleicht weil es jetzt doch ein Tor bei 5-5 gegeben hat?
