Chelsea confirm Becks interest

Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri has confirmed his club's interest in England captain David Beckham.

The Real Madrid star has been an instant success in the Spanish capital since his move from Manchester United last summer.

However, rumours persist that the midfielder is now unhappy with life in Spain and is yearning for a move back to England.

Beckham confirmed last week that he had a buy-out clause of €200 million (£140 million), which realistically means only Chelsea have the real financial power to push through such a deal.

Although any club wanting to buy Beckham would probably not have to meet his full release clause - a bid of near £100 million is likely to be needed to prise him away just a year into his contract.

Ranieri - whose own future remains highly uncertain - admits Beckham would be ideal for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

"It would be fantastic for Chelsea to bring back the England captain," said Ranieri.

"Nothing has happened yet, but it would fantastic to sign Beckham."

England coach Sven Goran Eriksson is still seen as the hot favourite to take charge at Chelsea following the European Championships and everyone already knows how much of a Beckham fan he is.

Der englische Fußballstar David Beckham hat Gerüchte um einen möglichen Wechsel von Real Madrid zu Chelsea entschieden dementiert.

"Ich werde auch nächste Saison für Real spielen. Die ersten sechs Monate haben mir hier sehr gut gefallen, warum sollte ich also gehen?", meinte der Mittelfeldspieler, der nach eigenen Angaben nie mit Chelsea in Kontakt stand. "Ich habe mich weder mit Roman Abramowitsch noch mit einem anderen Chelsea-Funktionär getroffen."

In den vergangenen Tagen war in britischen Medien spekuliert worden, dass der milliardenschwere Chelsea-Boss Abramowitsch den "Flankengott" für eine Ablöse von 210 Millionen Euro nach London lotsen wolle.
