Sportsfreund 1908 Beitrag melden Geschrieben 12. November 2004 Wales set to name Toshack as boss The Football Association of Wales is expected to name John Toshack as the new national coach at 1500 GMT. Toshack, plus other contenders Dean Saunders and Frenchman Phillipe Troussier were interviewed for the post on Thursday by an FAW sub-committee. BBC Wales Sport understands a secret ballot was held by councillors and only secretary-general David Collins currently knows the result. But it is understood Toshack has won the vote to succeed Mark Hughes. Former Real Madrid coach Toshack is the favourite to be appointed and has the support of most of the FAW's management committee - but there were some who recalled how he walked out on his country after just one game in control 10 years ago. Saunders, assistant to Newcastle boss Graeme Souness, was seen as an outsider for the job, while Troussier has already held talks with the Ghana FA to became their next national coach. A shortlist of six was originally drawn up for the job, but Gerard Houllier this week joined Ian Rush and Dick Advocaat in declining to be interviewed. A former close colleague of Houllier told BBC Sport he thought the Frenchman had pulled out because he did not want to be seen as a token interviewee in the selection process. The source, who also has extensive experience in the Premiership, said there was an overwhelming feeling Toshack would get the job and Houllier did not want to "just make up the numbers". Rush, who scored 28 goals in 73 appearances for Wales, said he wanted to concentrate on club management with Chester. And former Holland and Rangers boss Advocaat has since been appointed manager of German side Borussia Monchengladbach. bbc.co.uk 0 Zitieren Diesen Beitrag teilen Link zum Beitrag Auf anderen Seiten teilen
