Thuram to pen extension

Monday 11 October, 2004

Lilian Thuram looks set to end his career at Juventus after the club offered him a new contract.

The stopper is tied to the Delle Alpi outfit until the summer of 2006 but the Bianconeri are set to extend that by a season.

Reports claim that talks have already taken place and an agreement has been reached between the two parties.

Thuram, 32, is currently having a fantastic campaign after his difficulties in Turin last season.

Many thought that his Old Lady stint was on the verge of ending but the arrival of Fabio Capello as boss has seen the old Thuram return.

The Frenchman, who retired from international football following Euro 2004, is excelling after being moved into the centre from his previous right-back role.

Thuram has been immense in an almost unbeatable Juve defence this term, after his former Parma colleague Fabio Cannavaro was signed in the summer.

Whispers also suggest that Thuram has agreed to accept a 30 per cent reduction in his current £3.2m a season salary.

Wenn er in Form ist, ist er sicher einer der besten Innenverteidiger in Europa. Ausserdem schon länger einer meiner Lieblingsspieler. Allerdings ist er nicht mehr der Jüngste. ;)
