Wohin wechselt Muzzy Izzet?

Villa join Izzet race

Aston Villa have joined the race for Muzzy Izzet after Leicester turned down a bid from Blackburn for the player.

Rovers were hopeful of signing the Turkish international and Aston Villa goalkeeper Peter Enkelman following the opening of the transfer window.

But Leicester boss Micky Adams dismissed the move, describing the bid for Izzet as "derogatory".

And Villa boss David O'Leary has admitted his interest in signing the highly-rated midfielder.

Villa came close to signing Izzet for around £6m two years ago during John Gregory's reign as manager, but Villa chairman Doug Ellis blocked that deal.

But with Izzet out of contract at the end of the season any new bid would be greatly reduced.

"The chairman has made an enquiry about Izzet to Leicester and about his contract, the fact that he is on a free transfer at the end of the season and whether we could do something now," said O'Leary.

"But that's as much as I know. The conversation happened a few weeks ago and what I can gather Muzzy is not leaving Leicester, that he would be there until the end of the season. I have taken Micky Adams' word on the situation."

Blackburn manager Graeme Souness said: "We've made a sensible offer for Muzzy, given his contract is up at the end of the season."

Souness has made signing a midfielder his priority after Barry Ferguson needed surgery on a broken kneecap, keeping him out for at least three months.

The Rovers boss sees Izzet as the ideal man to bolster his squad, and knows that Leicester will be fearful of losing their influential midfielder for nothing at the end of the season.

Souness is also keen to secure Enckelman, who has been on loan at Ewood Park and is wanted as permanent cover for Brad Friedel.

"We've also made an offer for Peter Enckelman, and we'd like him here," Souness confirmed.

But Souness added that he has dropped his interest in Colombus Crew's US international striker Brian McBride.
