StopGlazer ***** Geschrieben 7. A - Match Day 4 Tallaght Stadium Thursday 3rd November 2011 kick-off 6:00 A disasterous first-half saw Rovers concede three goals but a spirited display in the 2nd half saw Billy Dennehy score a good free-kick but the Hoops had a mountain to climb against a fine PAOK side. On a heavy pitch the Hoops struggled to get their passing right but Chris Turner tested ‘keeper Chalkias early with a low shot. However the visitors were finding gaps in the home defence and Vierinha blasted a shot off the post on six minutes with O’Donnell throwing his body in front of the follow-up shot but the Hoops conceded another early goal a minute later when Vierinha picked out Salpingidis and he slotted the ball under Thompson and scored despite Craig Sives best efforts to keep the ball out. Rovers then saw Pat Sullivan make a great run into the box but his low cross was blocked for a corner and Billy Dennehy shot over the bar from distance a minute later. Salpingidis shot across goal on 16 minutes and the impressive Georgiadis then saw his shot deflected just wide and from the resultant corner Thompson had to punch clear and save the follow-up shot. PAOK number 16 Lino then found himself in space in the box but Thompson was quick off his line to block the shot. Georgiadis then forced Thompson to push away his shot from a tight angle as the Greeks looked sharp in attack. In contrast Rovers were finding it difficult to get decent balls into the box, Enda Stevens cross on 29 minutes was cleared to McCabe but he failed to get a shot in. Chris Turner then slipped the ball in for Sheppard on the right but his passage into the box was blocked by two defenders. The game was turned on its head in a three minute spell starting in the 35th minute when more sloppy passing in defence led to Conor McCormack losing possession and PAOK took full advantage and Fotakis was played in to shoot past Thompson. It got worse for Rovers when a cross from Georgiadis went to the back post and Salpingidis found himself unmarked and he finished coolly with a first time shot. Rovers were looking down and out but on 40 minutes McCabe won a corner and from Dennehys cross the ball was returned into the box for Turner to head on goal but Chalkias used his tall frame to tip the ball over the bar. Michael O’Neill made two changes bringing on Twigg and Kilduff and moving Sheppard out to the right hand side in a 4-4-2 formation. Rovers were sharper after the break and Sullivan’s cross was headed down into the box but Twigg couldn’t get on the ball. Karl Sheppard had a great second period and his run on goal after 50 minutes drew a foul and Billy Dennehy stepped up to shoot from 20 yards out on the right and beat Chalkias with the ball going into the net off the inside of the post. The Stadium came alive as the visitors now knew they were in a game but there was plenty of quality in the PAOK team and Pat Sullivan was called on to block a shot in the box. The Greeks moved the ball well in front of the Hoops goal but Rovers finally cleared the ball to Kilduff and after he was fouled on the left hand side in the 55th minute Billy Dennehy sent the free-kick into the box and Sheppard got a head to the ball but it missed the target. Rovers tried to get the ball to Kilduff and Twigg on every occasion and when Sheppard won another free-kick on the right Dennehy again put the ball into the area and this time Craig Sives headed the ball goal wards and with ‘keeper Chalkias in no-mans land it took some last ditch defending to clear the ball. Sullivan’s ball into the box just wouldn’t fall for Kilduff in the 68th minute but Vieirinha showed his class a minute later as he moved into space only to see his shot crash off the Rovers cross-bar. A good move on 72 minutes saw PAOK attack down the left and Salpingidis raced into the area to cross low for Vieirinha but thankfully he shot wide of the target. On 75 minutes Karl Sheppard again crossed into the box but Balafas cleared the ball only to see the Hoops number 10 cross again into the danger area but this time ’keeper Chalkias dived to punch away. O’Donnell then played a nice ball for Kilduff in the area but although his first touch was good a defender got back to clear. Substitute Stephen Rice then shot wide after an exchange of passes with O’Donnell. Dan Murray made a fine interception to block a low cross from Salpingidis and that man Georgiadis once again threatened with a fine shot from the right. With seven minutes remaining Lino cleared a cross into the path of Dennehy on the left-hand side of the box but his fine volley went across the Greek goal. A Sullivan cross on 85 minutes was cleared as far as Dennehy and he shot straight at the ’keeper from 20 yards out. With four minutes remaining Lazar raced into the box on the left and Dan Murray did well to block his shot. Vieirinha then shot over when well placed in the box. With four minutes of added-on time on the clock Rovers pushed on and Kilduff was unlucky as defender Cirillo did enough to deny him a shot on goal and the last chance of the game saw Pat Sullivan race into the box and cross to the back post for Kilduff to stoop to head the ball past the ’keeper but a defender got back to clear although most of Tallaght Stadium were claiming the ball had crossed the line. 0 Zitieren Diesen Beitrag teilen Link zum Beitrag Auf anderen Seiten teilen

The stadium opened in March 2009, with capacity for over 3,000 spectators. In August 2009, the second phase of the ground was completed, bringing the capacity to 6,500.
