Moggi sent to prison

Disgraced ex-Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The former Bianconeri director was at the centre of the Calciopoli scandal that shook the Italian game back in 2006.

But today's trial was related to his relationship with the GEA Soccer Management Agency, which influenced the Italian transfer market during the 1990s.

The agency was run by Moggi's son Alessandro, who was given a 14-month jail sentence.

“I am bitter and disappointed,” Alessandro Moggi said after the verdict. “I have been condemned for speaking to two players for 30 seconds.”

The prosecution had demanded a six-year jail sentence for Luciano, claiming that Moggi had used threats and violence to dictate transfer moves in the peninsula.

However, Moggi, who is already banned from Italian football for five years, was sent to prison for 18 months.

Meanwhile, agent Franco Zavaglia and son Emanuele were cleared, as was Marcello Lippi's son Davide, Francesco Ceravolo and Pasquale Gallo.
