Portsmouth have won the race to sign Ajax's Finnish international defender Petri Pasanen. Charlton were reported to be front-runners for the 23-year-old, who is out of favour at the Amsterdam ArenA. However, Pompey boss Harry Redknapp persuaded Pasanen to head for the South Coast on loan for the rest of the season. "Petri was playing Champions League football for Ajax most of last season and is an international for his country," said Redknapp. "He can also play as a full back and offers me the versatility I need with such a small squad."
