Ergänzungsspieler

Wenn sie nicht wie gegen Juve über den Tisch gezogen werden ist sicherlich einiges drinnen! Vorallem der Aufstieg im Coppa sollte zusätzlich Motivation geben!

THE TEAM LEAVING FOR ROMA

3/19/2005

MILANELLO - Carlo Ancelotti has named the team for the game at Roma on Sunday evening (kick-off 8.30pm CET):

GOALKEEPERS: Abbiati, Dida, Fiori:

DEFENDERS: Costacurta, Cafu, Kaladze, Maldini, Pancaro, Simic, Stam;

MIDFIELDERS: Ambrosini, Brocchi, Gattuso, Kakà, Pirlo, Rui Costa, Seedorf;

FORWARDS: Crespo, Inzaghi, Tomasson.

JUVENTUS TURIN

Bank: Chimenti, Ferrara, Montero, Birindelli, Pessotto, Appiah, Blasi

Buffon

Zebina - Thuram - Cannavaro - Zambrotta

Camoranesi - Emerson - Tacchinardi

Zalayeta - Ibrahimovic - Del Piero

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Boriello

Colucci

Tedesco - Nakamura - Mozart - Mesto

Zamboni - Franceschini - De Rosa - Cannarsa

Pavarini

Bank: Soviero, Piccolo, Zeytulaev, Boudianski, Esteves, Cosenza, Missiroli

REGGINA CALCIO

Serie A Preview: Roma-Milan

3/19/2005 3:06:00 PM

With round 29 of the Italian Serie A upon us, the match of the weekend will be league leading Milan’s visit to Rome’s Stadio Olimpico to play AS Roma, with both sides streaking to the finish of the season in different fashion.

BACKGROUND

Roma is coming off the midweek Coppa Italia victory over Fiorentina in a penalty kick shootout. However, their last Serie A victory came nearly a month ago, as they have lost their past three league contests. At the end of February, the Giallorossi lost at Palermo’s Stadio Renzo Barbera 2-0. Franco Brienza gave the home side the lead nine minutes after halftime. Roma received a boost in the 73rd minute when Simone Barone was sent off for Palermo. Despite the man advantage, Roma could not level the score, and Luca Toni sealed it for Palermo in the 91st. Roma then came home to play their next match, but it ended in another loss, this time to Juventus of Turin 2-1. Juve took the lead in just the 10th minute on a goal by central defender Fabio Cannavaro. Roma got back in it in the 39th minute through the infantile Antonio Cassano, but Alessandro Del Piero, ‘Il Pinturicchio’, scored the match-winner one minute before halftime on a penalty kick. The third consecutive defeat was to Cagliari last weekend, by a 3-0 margin. The ageless wonder, Gianfranco Zola, scored the opener in the 24th minute, and Mauro Esposito doubled the advantage in the 41st. The Brazilian, Suazo, made it three two minutes after halftime. To make matters even worse, Daniele De Rossi was shown a red card in the 58th, and he will miss this next encounter against Milan.

Prior to the midweek loss in the Coppa Italia to Udinese, Milan had won nine straight matches in all competitions, seven of those being domestic victories. The Rossoneri were the victors, 1-0, in the ‘Derby Della Madonnina’ three weeks ago over Inter. Kaka scored the only goal in the 74th minute, by deflecting Gennaro Gattuso’s low shot into the net. This match was succeeded by a very hard-fought 2-1 win away to bottom of the table Atalanta. Massimo Ambrosini grabbed the lead for Milan in the 72nd minute. A common phrase is: “You’re never as vulnerable as when you’ve just scored,” and on this instance it proved true. The young Nigerian striker Stephen Ayodele Makinwa scored literally right after Milan’s goal, in the 73rd minute. But, as Milan has done a majority of the season, the Rossoneri won it late, with Andrea Pirlo getting the winning goal in the 94th. Last Sunday’s match was a quality win for Milan, over then third place Sampdoria, by a 1-0 score. Kaka again provided the lone tally on a header in the 65th minute off a long cross from Andrea Pirlo.

TEAM NEWS

Roma has nearly a full squad, with the exception of talented midfielder Daniele De Rossi, who will be out through suspension because of the red card he received against Cagliari last weekend.

Milan will most likely be without Alessandro Nesta after he picked up a minor injury against Sampdoria. A definite miss is Andriy Shevchenko, who is not quite ready to return from the facial fracture he sustained a month ago.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Vincenzo Montella (Roma)

He is the leading goal-scorer in the Serie A this season, with 19 so far. He could be doing another of his airplane celebrations in this match, with proper service from Totti, of course.

Kaka (Milan)

With Shevchenko still out through injury, Kaka will again have to carry the load, along with Hernan Crespo and Rui Costa. His dribbling into the box could be the key to Milan’s success in this match.

POSSIBLE STARTING XI’s

Roma (4-3-1-2):

Zotti; Panucci, Chivu, Ferrari, Cufre; Aquilani, Dacourt, Perrotta; Totti; Montella, Cassano

Milan (4-3-2-1):

Dida; Cafu, Stam, Maldini, Pancaro; Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf; Kaka, Costa; Crespo
