Rosenborg win Norwegian title in dying minutes

BERGEN, Oct 30 (SW) - It could hardly get more exciting as in the last round of the Norwegian league on Saturday. Valerenga fought hard and sent Stabaek down to 1.division by defeating them 3-0 in front of 25,000 fans. Under normal circumstances, that result would be enough to win the league.

But Rosenborg showed why they have won 12 league titles in a row, scoring the decisive 4-1 goal in the 90th minute at home to Lyn. This year's top scorer Frode Johnsen was the big man, scoring a hattrick in the second half. RBK and Valerenga ended up with the same goal difference and 48 points, but Rosenborg have reached 52 goals, while Valerenga stopped at 40, which was not enough to conquer the top spot.

Brann caught the bronze medal - in a similar way to how Rosenborg won the title - at the disadvantage of Tromso. Bergen is celebrating as Brann ended up with 46 goals. Tromso, beating Sogndal 3-1 at home, scored 38. Rosenborg, Valerenga, Brann and Tromso will play in the upcoming Nordic Royal League, which starts on the 11th of November.

Stabaek need to spend at least a year in 1.division together with Sogndal, as they lost away to Valerenga. Bodo lost 3-0 away to Molde, and are temporarily safe as they need to play a qualification round versus the 3rd best 1.division team later in November. Fortunately for them, they had better goal difference than Stabaek.

Odd Grenland drew 2-2 at home with Ham-Kam, while Viking crushed Fredrikstad 5-2.

Helstad erzielte zwar nur ein Tor, aber man sieht wie wichtig das war

edit: Für Österreich wäre Valerenga als Meister besser gewesen. Weil Rosenborg wird, im Gegensatz zu Valerenga, in der CL-Quali wieder gesetzt sein. So kommt Rosenborg wieder zu 3 Bonuspunkten und Norwegen wieder in den Genuß von 0,75 Bonuspunkten für das erreichen der CL
